Missouri Alternative Homeschoolers - (MAH) - is a non-denominational homeschool group of conscientious people in south-central Missouri (Laclede, Pulaski, and nearby counties). We seek alternative ways to teach our children through educational and spiritual freedom-of-choice. Since everyone learns differently from another, our groups’ families promote individualized teaching and learning in order to expand our knowledge base and perspectives on lifestyles, spirituality and global issues. The basic guidelines of our group fall within this framework; 1) Since homeschool families generally join groups for the social involvement, children are encouraged to interact. In addition to exploring their own interests, they are expected to engage in some meaningful activities that require some level of communication with their peers – younger and older (i.e. board games, books, cards, or sport). 2) Parents join together regularly to also have social interaction. We discuss current issues, reading, and personal/family inner-development. We welcome conversations (and board-discussions) that promote healthy and positive growth. We also encourage children to listen and participate in these discussions. 3) Everyone in the group (including children) is allowed to have the beliefs they choose without any sort of exclusivity, condemnation, or belittlement. Everyone is welcome, and all views are considered. However, if at any time a person’s actions or communication(s) are regarded as mean or condescending, or negatively targets any one race, religion, sexual orientation or lifestyle, that person will be blocked from the group. Persons who join this group and/or participate in the gatherings seek to learn, understand and grow as an individual and as a group. Live and let live, in Peace and Love.
