... I have NEVER had any of my CD-R's fail - some of them over 10 years old now. I've never had a DVD-R fail either, although my oldest one is only about 5

Chuck, Not true. There are different grades of DVD's, and method of storage is important as well. DVD's haven't been around long enough to have accurate data
