Description

Milwaukee Area Sea Kayak is a forum for the discussion of sea kayaking in Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin. Topics may inlcude: paddle plans, trips/camping, trip reports, clinics/training and after-paddle coffee/breakfast meeting spots. Ocean, big Lake, small lake and river paddlers are all welcome!

Welcome Sunday morning paddlers:
Please join us for Sunday morning paddles at 9 AM, launching from South Shore Harbor, weather permitting. Depending on who shows up, some may prefer to stay within the break water and others to paddle open water. Each paddler is responsible for making the decision about paddling on the open lake, but the more experienced kayakers in the group are always happy to answer your questions and discuss your concerns. We were all beginners at some point.
We're very safety conscious group. For your own safety and the safety of the other people with whom you will be paddling, we ask that you have equipment appropriate to the conditions in which you will be paddling. You should wear a life vest (PFD). Even when the air temperature is warm, you need to dress for immersion; that means a drysuit when water temperatures are below 45 degrees and a wetsuit at other times. Your sea kayak should have bulkheads in the bow and stern for flotation, and you should have and use sprayskirt. Smaller recreational kayaks are fine for smaller inland lakes but not Lake Michigan. Please join us throughout the summer on inland lakes to practice paddle strokes, rescue techniques and rolling.
