RE: Music

I also have somewhere a record by resident band Casino Royale, "Come on Take Me Down to The Beach", 1974 I think.

Casino Royale were defiantly the Berengaria resident band in 1975, Harry Bence was in the ballroom, I was the ballroom DJ.

Hi Paul,

I remember the year in question as 1973.

The Ballroom had been changed from a theatre type building with shops around the edges and a cafe at the top to a nightclub, complete with bar instead of cafe.

The Nobodies were resident that season, and returned over the years as star caberet for the evening.  They were also seen to pop in when in the area and judge Miss Pontin etc.

Alice Ann is in my record collection, somewhere in the loft i think, the B side is the Warsaw concerto, Alice Ann was written and the concerto arranged by "Casstree" (The piano player in the group).  I also have the signed photo somewhere along with many other photos of the group.

The music was played over the tannoy as an annoucement it was meal time.  Other songs over the years included:

Whistle Down The Wind - From orignal film (To wake you up)
Life is a Precious Thing - Mike Samm Singers
Good Morning Starshine
Boom Bang a Bang
The Floral Dance
The Sun Has Got His Hat on
Puppet On a String
Congratulations
Long Long Live Love _ Olivia Newton John
Mame - Frankie Vaughan
Hello Dolly
Zing Went The Strings of My Heart (Usually played after Alice Anne)
.......And many more that will come to mind!

The last year for the music was 1977, as the restaurant changed to self service in 1978, with flexible dining times.

I also have somewhere a record by resident band Casino Royale, "Come on Take Me Down to The Beach", 1974 I think.

Hope this helps

Mike

Hello everyone,
My problem? Or should that be question? is simple.

In the early 1970's I stayed at Middleton with my Grand parents ( A regular thing being only 30 odd miles away) and for some reason I always remember going into the dining rooms for meals with music playing.

I have searched previous posts to the group but have not uncovered anything on this subject (although I have read a lot of interesting topics!)

Does anyone have any of these old records, or remember them?

One in particular, which I bought on 7" vinyl, signed, and included a signed picture of the group, was The Nobodies singing a song called "Alice Ann". Played at every meal time during the week prior to me buying it, I also wonder if they were played for the entire season? Or did the record change weekly?

I have searched for this particular record for 7 years since I lost it in a fire, but never found it, I would love to own a copy again even if its only on MP3,

Strangely this was the only song I remember, the others must not have caught my attention the same!

On another subject, it was a strange holiday for us being so local to the camp, it was like home from home. Everyone from our town used to travel up to Morecambe or Blackpool during our wakes weeks in July/August, so your best mates were always there at the same time as yourself! We didn't need to find new friends as we already had our own, but it was always fun to meet people that spoke with a funny accent! It still is! Ha ha!

So there we have it! Can anyone fill in the gaps? Tell me more about the music that was played? Why they did it? And hope against hope, actually say that someone remembers my record!

Best regards,
Paul.
