Unschooling is a form of education in which learning is based on the child's interests, needs, and goals. It may be referred to as whole-life learning, natural learning, child-led learning, discovery learning, delight-led learning, or child-directed learning.


Radical Unschooling (RU) is a natural extension of unschooling, allowing the child the same freedoms in all areas of their lives. Although some unschool educationally only, we use the term here interchangeably as we maintain the belief that trust, and respect should be given to your child in all areas of their life. RU is not just a method, or a set of rules for you to follow; it's about shifting traditionally ingrained attitudes about parenting and education. It is the practice of being your child's partner, advocate, and loving support.


If you are presently not unschooling radically, we assume you are here because you wish to move in that direction. Discussion on the list will be about how to move towards unschooling, not about what curriculum to use while you wait for the guts to jump into living and learning! If want your child to do something you won't find helpful advice here, but if your child wants to do something and you want to help them reach their goal then we can help share our experiences. Discussion is never meant to be a personal attack, but discussion and advice can be very straightforward. Most of us have deschooled our old habits and successfully embraced unschooling through this very straightforward and no nonsense advice, and we hope you benefit the same.
