I got quite a few responses from my "I'm back" E-mail saying for me to keep you all informed about my possible diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Not much more to say right now. I did have the appointment with the neurologist. He did a few physical tests such as poking me with a toothpick to detect sensation, making me do the "drunk walk" to see how steady I am, shut my eyes & touch my nose, etc. He said they all were fine except for how I have the numbness/loss of sensation in my left hand and left leg. So he wants me to have an MRI of the brain to detect if I have any degeneration of the nerves. Also wants me to have a nerve test on my left arm...but I told him, that doesn't explain my leg. I'll let you know the results of those tests (probably will be a few weeks).

Some complaining to do again...lol. I hate teeth. They hate me. To add to my list of bad news that's been going on is about a tooth. About a year ago, I had the worst toothache ever...and I've had a many. I went to the dentist, and I needed a root canal (man I hate those things). Even after getting pain meds (GOOD pain meds at that) I was still miserable.

I didn't have the money to get a root canal. I have dental insurance from the state...but it just covers cavities, pullings, and cleanings. I didn't want it pulled cause it was a pre-molar, therefore close to the front of the mouth. So, I suffered until my mother could get her check in and send me the money for a root canal. It was done at a clinic that offered a discounted rate for low income families--still was $120, but better than $500.

After the root canal, I had no more problems until the other day when I bit into a pizza crust that was a bit too crunchy. That tooth split in two, and fell out. All that's left is the tooth at the gum line. Oh happy day. It took me a few minutes for me to realize it was THAT tooth. Then I got more mad...fuming was more like it. I went through all that pain for squat--not to mention my mom's $120 down the drain (well, literally in the trash).

So now I need to get it pulled....sure it will have to be cut out, so I'll have more pain. Can't get a bridge cause insurance doesn't cover it. Hubby says he can't tell it's missing when I talk. Hope he isn't saying that to make me feel better...lol.

What that tooth needed (as do 3 other of mine that have had root canals) is a cap. When you get a root canal it weakens the tooth and, as I surely now know, makes it more apt to break. If you have the money...I advise getting a cap!

As you know, I am a yacht chef and love easy recipes that make me look good and take very little time to prepare. Here is a real winner!

ITALIAN HAZELNUT MOUSSE

1 Large container of Cool Whip

1 Container of Nutella Hazelnut Spread

Oreo cookies, crushed

Whipped cream

Mix the Nutella with the Cool Whip to make a mousse. In a parfait glass, put some crushed Oreo's in the bottom then layer with the mousse mix, top with crushed Oreo's, then top with whipped cream and garnish with crushed Oreo's.

Yummy and so easy. They love it on the yachts I work on.

Quickly for those who missed the other E-mail or the few new subscribers I've had: I'm trying to sell the Christmas items I have left over from my variety store, which only lasted a few months this year before I had to shut it down. I'm trying to get money to have a Christmas--been really hard not having my income in the home.

I was able to take pictures of the Christmas items I have for sale. Below is the site they are on.

The date got messed up on the camera--I took the pics today but have a date of 10/19 on them. Wasn't even thinking about date being on there.

I will now sell the items individually, since I got them all out & took pictures of them. Some prices have been altered as I thought I had cheaply made ornaments, but I forgot I threw them away...lol. And after I dug out all of my items, a few have a higher price than the 50 cents max I said in last E-mail. (All of the items sold in my store for $1 each, but some even have been pre-priced with $2.99 on the package.)

I don't have an exact count on everything, as that would take me forever to count. Most items I have quite a few of, especially the bows...over 100. Some items I just have 3-5 of. Keep in mind, first order, first receive.

In the pictures you can (usually) see letter/s on a piece of paper. That's to help describe the items.

Before it enters your mind, no, I didn't start up this newsletter again for the purpose in this E-mail. This idea was an afterthought.

I'm trying to sell the Christmas items I have left over from my variety store. The store that only lasted a few months this year before I had to shut it down. Besides the Christmas items, I have a huge amount of other items left that I have in a storage unit...which I can't really afford. I'm going to be putting a lot of these things on ebay. But...I thought I'd offer them to you all first, especially the items I have right now, as I'm trying to get money to have a Christmas--been really hard not having my income in the home. Maybe I can sell some to you all faster than I can get them done on ebay.

Right now what I have gathered are Christmas items: mostly it's garland, ornaments, windsocks, decorating ribbon, mini red bows, and window decorations--and a funny hat my son has been wearing the last few days (don't worry, you won't get his hat...I have more...lol).

I thought I'd offer these items in a variety box. You'll get a mixture of the items. All of these items sold in my store for $1 each. I want to sell them now for 50 cents each for everything but the ornaments and garland, which are 25 cents each.

If you want some items, let me know what you want to spend for the items, such as $10, $15, $20, etc. Then I will put $10 worth into a box (some 25 and some 50 cent items), weigh it, then tell you the weight so postage can be figured. (These are very lightweight items.)

If you prefer any specific type of item that I listed above, I will put them into your order...but keep in mind, first order, first receive.

MICHELLE'S MOUTH

In this column, I'll be blabbing about anything and everything...comments about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...no wait...that's the Declaration of Independence. Make that comments about life, kids, husbands (wait, same thing as a kid...lol), and stupid things I see & hear.

First, I've received a few E-mails asking about my family. I'll mention my mother below in what happened in 2007. As for my father, he died on 9/11/06. He had 5 different kinds of cancer in his life & fought them all, but it was # 6, lymphoma, that he couldn't fight. He lived 9 months after he was diagnosed with it. I only have one sister who is 7 years younger than I am. She got married a few months before I did, and is now expecting her first child, a girl, in February. (BTW, I got married on Oct. 8, 2005...she did in June 2005) My grandmother, who I took care of for a while as many of you know, is still alive & will always be bedridden. Her condition is mainly the same, except she's now on full time oxygen. Her main problems are: can't walk from no cartilage in knees, diabetes, fibromyalsia, curved spine, & degenerative bones...and that's enough problems.

Right now...I feel the need to vent. Vent about how life just can't let you chill for a while. You know that saying "when it rains, it pours"? Well, wish that was it. With me, it's more like "when it rains, it pours, then hails, then you get struck by lightning, next comes a tornado to carry you to another county and back, then here comes the flood--so you try to save yourself by standing on the top of your home, where you get struck by lightning again." I really really need the storm to stop. Just for a little while. Then some sprinkles can start up again...cause I know they will.

All in 2007:

I started a variety shop (my dream) just to watch it die a few months later

my mother is diagnosed with breast cancer and has both removed & is dealing with chemo & not well at all

my mother-in-law died

our refrigerator stopped working right (freezer didn't freeze...and regular part wasn't cool enough to put anything in...so the freezer became the regular part and we didn't have a freezer)--and had no money to get a new one--but this past Monday we were blessed that the preacher at the church we just started going to found us a fridge

our living room floor is badly weakening in a few spots to where you stumble from being unsteady

then the living room floor next to the kitchen started sinking more & more over 2 days time until i knew it wasn't just like the other weak spots--discovered a leak under kitchen sink that got floor so wet it was crumbling--so we have to step a foot and a half to get into kitchen so we don't fall through it

our van caught on fire...while driving it! just noticed transmission acting like it was sluggish 2 days before and we were going to get it checked but it couldn't wait, and pushing the van to get home one night, a belt broke and from the heat under the hood, it caught on fire--luckily car insurance gave us some for the van & finally on day before insurance rental had to be back, we found a car (not great...but works)

also right after van fire (Oct. 14) I started having strange symptoms which led me to the ER--to find out at least nothing immediately life threatening--but there is a possibility of me having Multiple Sclerosis, and even if I don't have it, I have to have something, as some symptoms are still there

I think that's the list--for now at least!

Yes, I remember saying this 3 years ago...when my life went through a bunch of changes, and was slacking on issues, then came back 2-3 times saying I was back, but did nothing, as my life was still too hectic. Well, this time I hope to be back longer than to just send this note to you all.

I couldn't believe Yahoo kept the group up...all my groups are still up and archived. I can't tell you when the first issue will be sent out as I need to find material first...lol.

A few things for the old members who I'm sure thought I fell off the face of the earth: You remember my son being born in 2000; but two big changes that have happened since we lost communication: I moved to Kentucky (until then, I always lived in West Virginia, where I was born) and got married, both in 2005. I haven't had any more kids. I started a variety shop here earlier this year--sold clothes, knick knacks, toys, and a lot more (new and used items). It wasn't in the best of location (even though I thought it would be when I started) and I tell you I think the building had a curse on it...as I found out later no business lasted there long at all. Well, I had to shut down, only a few months after opening. A store was my dream, so it hit me hard--obtaining my dream in March...seeing it die in July. Two years ago I did substitute teach here for a while. I'll probably will start doing that again if my health isn't going where it might be, as I am dealing with a possible diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. I have an appointment with a neurologist on Nov. 12. The oldbies might vaguely recall my age...but of course I'm older now...darn it...I'm 34.

Feel free to reply to this post and let me know how you all are...I really did miss the many friendships that started with this newsletter. I hope many are still going on out there. And I hope to create new ones.

Here's another issue...finally! I can hardly get any time online to do anything. Hopefully you'll be getting issues a lot more frequently.

BTW...Seth, my son, turned 4 on June 23. Yes, 4. Sometimes it seems as if he was just born. Then I remember all of the bottles I made & diapers I changed...that felt like that lasted 18 years. lol SO glad when that ended. Now he's doing the "I'm not gonna mind you for anything" phase. But, a few people have told me that's not a phase...as phases END. lol

Well, after a LONG hiatus, I'm back. Hopefully I have burnout OUT of my system. I have no clue as of now how often I'll be sending out issues...but I figure ANY is better than none.

I've started a coupon trading group. I wasn't aware online coupon trading existed until a few weeks ago. So glad I became aware of it. Because of it, and getting metro newspapers, I'm saving a lot of money on groceries. When I started in September I saved $96. In October, I saved $183.

There will be no postings on this group for just a little while until there are a few members in the group. You will be notified when posting will start.

Whether you have never used coupons, or they have been a way of life for you for a long time, I'm sure you can benefit from this group.

In this group, we trade coupons. You can post a list of coupons you have up for trade. You can post a list of coupons you are looking for (ISO=In Search Of). You can sign up for coupon potlucks and trains. You can post your big coupons savings & tips. You can post online coupons and freebies. If it deals with coupons, we deal with it. :o)

What are potlucks? People sign up to exchange coupons, putting their name into a "hat" so to speak. Then each person is given someone's name to send coupons to. You send a set number of coupons to that person. And someone else has your name, and will send coupons to you, too. So each person gets an envelope (envy) full of coupons. It's a nice surprise. I love going through them, not knowing what you're getting. I will announce potlucks in the group (I hope to have them often). You then sign up if you want to participate...you can participate in all, or none. Each potluck might be different regarding number of coupons exchanged & other details.

What are trains? Trains are another way of exchanging coupons. People sign up to "ride" on a train. All of those people are put on a "passenger" list. The person starting a train puts a set number of coupons in an envelope. They send the envy to the first person on the list (the person starting the train is the last person on the list). The train envy gets sent from person to person on the list. Each person takes out the coupons they want, or have expired, and replace them with coupons he/she doesn't need. Then they put the coupons into another envy and mail it to the next person on the list. The train is finished when the sender gets the train envy back.

As for "selling" coupons (but still called trading): One isn't actually selling coupons, as one person told me that's illegal...I don't know that for a fact. A person is charging a handling fee for each coupon, plus postage. Coupon fees usually range from 3-cents to 10-cents a coupon. My regular prices are 3-cents for coupons under $1.00 value; and 5-cents for coupons $1.00 and over. Sometimes people put their coupons "on sale" for 1 or 2 cents. Sometimes if a coupon has a really high face value, or it's a rebate form, it can go higher than 10-cents. As for how to pay someone, see below. And as for postage, see below. I have all my hundreds of coupons up for trade in a list, categorized into sections like "baby," "frozen foods," "hair care," "medicine," "pets," etc. Then they are alphabetized within the groups according to the name of the product. There is no standard way of listing coupons. Some people have them listed on websites. I hope to have my listing on my site at some point.

Another way to trade coupons: You can trade coupon for coupon if you like, not necessarily being exact on the number traded. Someone might see the list of coupons you have up for trade, and tell you they want some, but would like to trade instead of "buying" them from you. If you agree, you can see their list and choose what coupons you want.

You might be wondering how you send money to someone, and receive money. PayPal is the answer to that. I don't know of any coupon trader who doesn't use it. You can send money over the Internet to someone. They never see your checking account or credit card info. It's done instantly, too. It's free to sign up. I've used it for a couple years. Before now, I used it to receive money when someone placed an ad on "Michelle's Miracles." It's been safe for me. It's also partnered with ebay. Just go to paypal.com to sign up. But you do NOT have to use PayPal to trade coupons. You can trade coupon for coupon, or just participate in potlucks and trains.

As for how many coupons you can stuff in an envelope: you can put about 45-50 in there for the 37 cents postage. It depends on the thickness of each coupon (thicker ones come in/on products). It's up to/including 1 oz. for the 37 cents postage. You can go up to/including 2 oz. for 60 cents postage. (Getting some 23-cent stamps is better than using two 37-cent stamps.) I weigh mine at the post office just to be sure. Some are obvious if they only take 1 stamp. One I thought for sure was over 1 oz. was about 3/4 an oz. Weighing it saved me the 23-cent stamp.

I have my own E-mails set up for individual. I can't stand digest version. Too hard to read & keep straight what post is from whom. Plus, it's a lot harder to reply to someone when it's sent out in digest. Yahoo starts you out as individual posts, but you can change to digest if you prefer.

When posting begins, please introduce yourself to the group. Some info to share: first name, age, location, how long you've been using coupons, married?, kids?, hobbies?, etc.

You might need to know some abbreviations that are used a lot when trading coupons:

ASAP - As Soon As Possible
H. or (H) - Have
IP - Internet Printed (coupon was printed off the Internet)
ISO - In Search Of (coupons you are looking for)
LMK - Let Me Know
PPHF - PayPal Handling Fee/s
Q's - coupons *yet I don't use this one...lol...I like cpn or cpns
ROAK - Random Acts of Kindness (envies sent out just to be nice to someone)
TMF - Try Me Free (in reference to a rebate)
WYB - When You Buy (used when describing a coupon)

A good (or bad...lol) example of coupon abbreviation usage:
I h. Q's to trade. Many IP & TMF. Low PPHF. LMK ASAP.

There are some rules for the group:

Keep the posting to discussions of coupons, rebates, sales, and freebies. No jokes (unless about coupons...lol) or chain letters & other SPAM. I will warn those who don't follow this rule. If someone refused to obey this rule, he/she will be removed & banned from the group.

There will be no tolerating of bad language & insults. Those who do so will be removed & banned from the group.

There will be no advertising in the group. You can list the web address of your website where your coupon list is at, but that's it. Those who refuse to obey this rule will be removed & banned from the group.

PLEASE READ...about the future of this newsletter:

I know...long time no issue. I just don't have time to do the newsletter like I used to. Taking care of my 3-year-old son and my disabled/bedridden grandmother takes up a lot of my time. Also, I found out a new hobby: coupons. Well, it's not a new hobby actually...I've done it since I was 12, even. But now I'm into it BIG TIME. I'm saving major money each month. I'm into online coupon trading now. And I get a nearby metro paper for coupons. I might start up a group just for coupon trading. It would definitely be more profitable than this newsletter ever was.

As for this newsletter, I don't have any interest in it anymore. I've done it and other newsletters for too long. Burnout is an understatement. Plus, it's not like it was making me any money. Only one year I had enough to pay for my website, and that was due to a donation. I hope to keep the website up for at least another year, but not sure if I have enough money for it right now. I'd hate to have all the work I did on it go to waste.

So, it's mostly "you'll get an issue when you get an issue." lol I won't wait until I get a full issue made, so some issues might be very short...but I figure that will be better than no issue for ages.

Michelle here: I don't know if an actual attorney wrote this or if the telephone numbers at the end are correct. But, I thought the information given was noteworthy.

PROTECTING YOURSELF AGAINST IDENTITY THEFT

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company:

The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your check book they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name but your bank will know how you sign your checks.

When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a P.O. Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a P.O. Box use your work address.

Never have your SS# printed on your checks (DUH!) -- you can add it if it is really necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone can get it.

Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine, do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.

Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad.

We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards, etc. Unfortunately I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(s) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more.

But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them easily.

File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where it was stolen, this proves to credit providers you were diligent, and is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important: (I never even thought to do this). Call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit. By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done.

There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them in their tracks.

I CAN'T BELIEVE WE MADE IT

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's or even the early 80's, probably shouldn't have survived.

Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. �We had no childproof lids or locks on medicine bottles, doors, or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. �Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars�with no seat belts or air bags. �Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors! �We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were�always outside playing. �We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. �No cell phones. Unthinkable!

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or Internet chat rooms.

We had friends! We went outside and found them. �We played dodge ball, and sometimes, the ball would�really hurt. �We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and�there were no �lawsuits from these accidents. They were�accidents. No one was to blame but us. Remember accidents?

We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it. �We made up�games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out any eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't as �smart as others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the�same grade. �Horrors! �Tests were not adjusted for any reason.

Our actions were our own. Consequences were�expected. The idea of parents bailing us out if we got in trouble in school or broke a law was unheard of. �They�actually sided with the school or the law. Imagine that!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, and inventors, ever. �We had freedom, failure, success, �and responsibility--and we learned how to deal with it.

HURRICANE SEASON TIPS

We're about to enter the peak of the hurricane season. Any day now, you're going to turn on the TV and see a weather person pointing to some radar blob out in the Gulf of Mexico and making two basic meteorological points:

(1) There is no need to panic.
(2) We could all be killed.

Yes, hurricane season is an exciting time to live along the Gulf Coast. If you're new to the area, you're probably wondering what you need to do to prepare for the possibility that we'll get hit by "the big one."

Based on our experiences, we recommend that you follow this simple three-step hurricane preparedness plan:

STEP 1
Buy enough food and bottled water to last your family for at least three days.

STEP 2
Put these supplies into your car.

STEP 3
Drive to Nebraska and remain there until Halloween.

Unfortunately, statistics show that most people will not follow this sensible plan. Most people will foolishly stay along the Gulf Coast.

We'll start with one of the most important hurricane preparedness items:

HOMEOWNERS' INSURANCE
If you own a home, you must have hurricane insurance. Fortunately, this insurance is cheap and easy to get, as long as your home meets two basic requirements:

(1) It is reasonably well-built, and
(2) It is located in Nebraska.

Unfortunately, if your home is located on the Gulf, or any other area that might actually be hit by a hurricane, most insurance companies would prefer not to sell you hurricane insurance, because then they might be required to pay YOU money, and that is certainly not why they got into the insurance business in the first place. So you'll have to scrounge around for an insurance company, which will charge you an annual premium roughly equal to the replacement value of your house. At any moment, this company can drop you like used dental floss. Since Hurricane George, I have had an estimated 27 different home-insurance companies. This week, I'm covered by the Bob and Big Stan Insurance Company, under a policy which states that, in addition to my premium, Bob and Big Stan are entitled, on demand, to my kidneys.

SHUTTERS
Your house should have hurricane shutters on all the windows, all the doors, and -- if it's a major hurricane -- all the toilets. There are several types of shutters, with advantages and disadvantages:

Plywood shutters:
The advantage is that, because you make them yourself, they're cheap. The disadvantage is that, because you make them yourself, they will fall off.

Sheet-metal shutters:
The advantage is that these work well, once you get them all up. The disadvantage is that once you get them all up, your hands will be useless bleeding stumps, and it will be December.

Roll-down shutters:
The advantages are that they're very easy to use, and will definitely protect your house. The disadvantage is that you will have to sell your house to pay for them.

"Hurricane-proof" windows:
These are the newest wrinkle in hurricane protection: They look like ordinary windows, but they can withstand hurricane winds! You can be sure of this, because the salesman says so. He lives in Nebraska.

HURRICANE PROOFING YOUR PROPERTY
As the hurricane approaches, check your yard for movable objects like barbecue grills, planters, patio furniture, visiting relatives, etc. You should, as a precaution, throw these items into your swimming pool (if you don't have a swimming pool, you should have one built immediately). Otherwise, the hurricane winds will turn these objects into deadly missiles.

EVACUATION ROUTE:
If you live in a low-lying area, you should have an evacuation route planned out. (To determine whether you live in a low-lying area, look at your driver's license; if it says "Louisiana," you live in a low-lying area.) The purpose of having an evacuation route is to avoid being trapped in your home when a major storm hits. Instead, you will be trapped in a gigantic traffic jam several miles from your home, along with two hundred thousand other evacuees. So, as a bonus, you will not be lonely.

HURRICANE SUPPLIES:
If you don't evacuate, you will need a mess of supplies. Do not buy them now! Tradition requires that you wait until the last possible minute, then go to the supermarket and get into vicious fights with strangers over who gets the last can of SPAM.

In addition to food and water, you will need the following supplies:

-- 23 flashlights

-- At least $167 worth of batteries that turn out, when the power goes off, to be the wrong size for the flashlights.

-- Bleach. (No, I don't know what the bleach is for. NOBODY knows what the bleach is for, but it's traditional, so GET some!)

-- A 55-gallon drum of underarm deodorant.

-- A big knife that you can strap to your leg. (This will be useless in a hurricane, but it looks cool.)

-- A large quantity of raw chicken, to placate the alligators. (Ask anybody who went through Camille; after the hurricane, there WILL be irate alligators.)

-- $35,000 in cash or diamonds so that, after the hurricane passes, you can buy a generator from a man with no discernible teeth.

Of course these are just basic precautions. As the hurricane draws near, it is vitally important that you keep abreast of the situation by turning on your television and watching TV reporters in rain slickers stand right next to the ocean and tell you over and over how vitally important it is for everybody to stay away from the ocean.

Hi everybody! Long time no E-mail...again. Sure thought I'd be getting online before now. Last time was July 15. (Well, I did get online for a bit 2 days ago, but just got to chat with a buddy and go through a bunch of mail.)

As the previous month, there's still been many things going on to where I couldn't get time to get online. Hopefully I can work in some time online. I'm sure it won't be anywhere near the time I used to spend on here.

Things will be changing regarding my newsletters (details below). This exact E-mail will be sent to all the newsletters, so if you receive more than one, there's no need to read more than one copy.

MICHELLE'S MIRACLES:

Not sure what will happen with this newsletter. It won't end, but there will be changes in publishing frequency and maybe content.

GAGA OVER GRAPHICS
("regular" and holidays and resends)

When I got online 2 days ago I read a downer of an E-mail I got July 31. Yahoo was informing owners of their Groups of changes in service. Here's the section of that E-mail that applies to the graphics newsletters:

Message Attachments: Yahoo! Groups will continue to deliver all attachments sent via email, however, the attachments will no longer be archived within the Messages area. You may continue to upload files and images to the Files and Photos areas of your groups.� Please re-upload any attachments you would like to preserve to the Photos or Files areas of your group. On Aug. 7, all attachments in the Messages area will be removed, and Yahoo! will be unable to retrieve such data.

OH YIPPIE! (Thanks for the huge 1 week notice Yahoo!! Yet, as of now, the graphics are still on Yahoo's site. They're now saying Aug. 21 is when the archived attachments will be removed.)

Well, this decided for me the future of the two newer graphics newsletters (resends and holidays): they won't have one. With not having graphics stored on there, and especially losing those I had on there for subscribers to view, I didn't think it was worth continuing. I'm VERY ticked that all the work I did in resending the graphics out was lost. Glad I didn't get more transferred that I did! Those newsletters will be deleted soon.

As for the regular/original graphics newsletter, I'm not sure of its future. I have many graphics I haven't sent out. Hopefully soon, I'll start sending those out. When I get near the end of those, I'll decide what to do about continuing that newsletter.

I'm sure most of you either thought I, or my computer, died. Neither was the case. I've never been away from the computer for this long since I first discovered the Internet about 8 years ago. And the only times I was away from the computer for a while was when my computer had to go in for repair and for vacation.

I had a few reasons for not being online for about a month.

1. Major burnout with the newsletters - I've been doing at least one newsletter for about 7 years. "Michelle's Miracles" has been around since March 1999. "Gaga Over Graphics" was started January 2002.

2. I had other things to do that took priority...mainly spending more quality time with my son, who turned 3 on June 23. A few days of my hiatus was spent getting ready for and going on vacation with him and my parents. First time he's been away from home. It also was his first time in a big pool. He was scared at first--not even going on the steps into the pool. I kept encouraging him until finally he was having a blast with me carrying him around the pool, boosting him straight up with my arms, and spinning around. Also, many things around the house needed to be done.

3. The few times I somewhat wanted to get online, I couldn't get the time to do so. I usually got online at night, when Seth was asleep, but with doing more during the day, I just wanted to sleep. Contrary to the past 8 years of my online life, sleep took priority over being online. Never thought it would get to that. lol

Hopefully my hiatus took care of my burnout. Don't know when I'll start sending out issues yet. I have 450 E-mails in my mailbox. NOT looking forward to going through all of those. Actually hoping I got tons of spam. lol

BEHIND THE BERLIN WALL - TAKING A STAND FOR CHRIST

I met Michael a little while ago, online, when he E-mailed me right after he subscribed to "Michelle's Miracles." Turns out I had a famous person as one of my subscribers. He's not famous like Brad Pitt or Jennifer Lopez, but famous in his own right, as he tours around the US spreading his Christian faith through his musical ministry. "Behind The Berlin Wall"
Taking a Stand for Christ

The Faith of our Family
from Nazi Germany to the Fall of the Berlin Wall

The Nazis Marched Into His House:

�� When the Nazis marched into the house of my grandfather in 1938, they demanded that he had to take down the painting of Jesus Christ he had over his study desk and join the Nazi party. My grandfather took courage, stood up to them and declared, "This painting remains!" refusing to join their party or turn away from his Christian faith. The Nazis, angered by his resistance, took action against him. He was exposed to discrimination and persecution, finally dismissed from his position as a German school teacher and sent into the battlefields of World War II.

The Communists Marched Into His House:�

�� After Hitler was defeated, the Communists ruled over East Germany. My grandfather, who after a series of miraculous protections from danger, death and two certain executions, had returned safe from World War II, had regained his teaching position at an East German school. Now it was the Communists who marched into his house demanding he had to take down the painting of Christ over is study desk and join the Communist party. Once again he took courage, stood up to them and declared, "This painting remains!" He refused to join their party, refused to submit to their beliefs and would not compromise his Christian faith. As before, discrimination and persecution were the inevitable response. Once again, he lost his job and was sent into retirement, deprived of his rightful pension after three decades of teaching...

"I Know That My Redeemer Lives":

�� But my grandfather would rejoice in all circumstances. "I know that my Redeemer lives," was his firm proclamation under freedom as well as under persecution. He knew that following Christ was not always easy and that the Bible didn't speak about comfortable Christianity. Faith was free but it wasn't cheap. There was a cost to consider and a price to pay. But he also knew the price that Christ had paid for his Salvation. This was the greatest gift of all and he never wanted to turn away from God's love and faithfulness. His stories of an uncompromised Christian faith intrigued me, his unwavering example inspired me.

A Shattered Dream

�� I wanted so much to visit him, listen to his life stories, see the paining of Christ over his study desk, eat the cooking of my grandmother, listen to her devotions and Bible readings. But this dream was shattered by the reality of the Berlin Wall, a 12 foot tall concrete block with electric fences and barbed wire, guarded by armed soldiers on high security towers. My grandparents, who had been able to immigrate to the West before I was born, now lived in a world I was not privileged to visit. Our family had to remain behind the Iron Curtain that separated our families, our city and our nation.

Behind The Berlin Wall:

�� Now I myself had to make choices. Growing up behind the Berlin Wall, I faced a Communistic regime that deprived us of freedom and liberty and fought to install Communist teaching in our hearts and minds. God did not exist in their ideology and had no room in their beliefs. At the same time, I grew up in a Christian family. My parents stood up to the challenges and difficulties of pastoring a church under Communist East Germany and taught me that there was a God and that He has loved me enough to send His son Jesus Christ into this world, to grant me Salvation and Eternal Life. I knew it was my time now to make choices... And it was my time now to consider the cost...

A Cost to Consider:

�� Refusing, at the age of 7, to join the mandatory Communistic organizations at school, and taking a stand for my faith in Christ, I found myself a target of mocking and ridicule. Being the only boy during flag raising without the Young Pioneers uniform gave me no place to hide. There were two more girls who did not wear this Communist uniform. They happened to be my sisters. This statement of faith was only the beginning of a childhood of choices and challenges as the Communist regime sought to break our faith and resistance with ever increasing pressure.

Choices And Consequences:

�� Refusing to compromise my faith in Christ, I found myself being deprived of the privilege of getting a drivers license. When my class traveled around for a one week vacation trip and sightseeing, I was put on a construction site to carry stones and clean up the trash. Not willing to betray my faith in Christ, I found myself unable to attend my own graduation ceremony. As I had witnessed in the lives of my parents and grandparents, I learned to rejoice in all circumstances. All I wanted to do was to look up to Christ and remember what he had gone through for me, how he was mocked and ridiculed for me. Beaten and spit at. They pierced thorns into His head and nailed Him to the cross to die. And there He died for me. But He had risen. He had overcome death and He was alive. In Him I had the victory.

The "Wall" Comes Down:

�� Against all odds the Berlin Wall came down. Our little country made history. It started within the churches, with people earnestly praying to God. And out of the churches we marched, with burning candles in our hands and songs of freedom on our lips, as we approached the soldiers that were lined up around the churches and given order to shoot. Not one shot was fired... Instead, the Berlin Wall came down. After years of dictatorship, we gained freedom and liberty. By the grace of God, Communism in East Germany is no more. The Berlin Wall is part of history, is now sold in little pieces in souvenir stores... What remains�-- is our faith in Jesus Christ.

Reunited At Last:

�� Finally we could be reunited as a family. I could walk hand-in-hand with my grandfather through the streets of his city, listen to his life stories and see the painting of Christ over his study desk, -- the painting that I had heard so many stories about, that he had never taken down, no matter the cost or consequences. But my grandfather had grown old by now. He gathered us around him and thanked God in gratefulness that he could still live to see the day that the Berlin Wall would come down and his family be reunited once again. He knew his remaining time with us would not last forever and asked us what we would like to inherit so he could pass it on to us. As I walked through his apartment there was one thing that most of all captured my attention:

The Painting of Christ:

�� "Grandfather," I said, "I really would like to have this painting of Christ over your study desk..." He looked at me with a gentle smile, "This painting has carried me through life, I have never taken it down," he said. "Not when the Nazis demanded so, not when the Communist demanded so. I always wanted to put Christ first in my life. It was not always easy. There was a cost to consider and a price to pay. There was unrighteousness to endure for our faith, at times discrimination and persecution. But God has always been faithful to us. I have never taken down this painting... I should not take it down now either. I would like it to remain over my study desk until the last day of my life. But once the Lord has called me home I shall pass it on to you -- as my legacy."

Grandfather's Legacy:

�� A few years ago my grandfather died. And though we were sad and mourning and missed him dearly, we were rejoicing. We rejoiced that he was about to see the One he had believed in and followed so faithfully his whole life long. He had always proclaimed, "I know that my Redeemer lives." Not, "I think so," not even, "I believe"..."I KNOW!" We were rejoicing for his example of an uncompromising and unwavering Christian faith in the middle of hardships and trials. It had meant so much encouragement and inspiration to us as we lived our own lives and faith behind the Berlin Wall. We were grateful for the legacy he left behind for us to carry on...

The Great Commission:

�� The painting of Christ now hangs over my study desk. I have promised to God I shall never take it down. It has become a daily reminder of the price that Christ has paid for our Salvation. It is a reminder to me of the choices we have to make in life, a reminder that we can only follow one Lord in our lives. We can take Salvation for free, but we should not take it for granted. If we do not make Jesus Christ Lord of all, we actually don't make him Lord at all... This painting shows the The Great Commission, Jesus Christ sending out his disciples into all the world to preach and live the Good News that God, who loves us, has provided for us a way of Salvation, forgiveness of sin, everlasting life and everlasting freedom through Jesus Christ...

�� As I now tour the USA to share my testimony and music with the American people, speaking and performing in churches, youth groups, schools, camps and colleges, and occasionally on radio and television, it has become my genuine desire to challenge people not to take freedom for granted, nor their faith in Christ too lightly. Rather, it is my prayer that they might use this priceless privilege of freedom for a deeper commitment and more faithfulness in following our Lord and Savior and to stand up for Jesus Christ, as he has stood up for us.

MOM'S LAUNDRY RULES

1. Pajamas - Do not put pajamas in the dirty clothes after only one wear. It is scientific fact that you do not get dirty while sleep. Pajamas can be worn many times before they smell bad enough to warrant being thrown in the dirty clothes. Exception: You may put pajamas in the dirty clothes if you throw up on them or something else that may be deemed disgusting, but only if they stink.

2. Socks - Unroll your socks before putting them in the dirty clothes. Otherwise, I will start washing and drying them in their original rolled up little balls. Special note: Unroll socks before throwing them down the laundry chute. If you don't, the law of physics causes them to bounce off the washer and land behind the washer or dryer, and Mom is getting too old to crawl back there and fish them out.

3. Clothes Hung Up - Clean clothes can be easily removed from the clothes bar by gently lifting up on the hanger and pulling towards you. The clean item can now be removed from the hanger for wearing. The wrong way to remove clean clothes is to YANK on one corner of the garment. This causes the hanger to go flying around the clothes bar, scratching the wall and becoming impossibly entangled with the neighboring hangers. Special note: This makes Mom want to choke children. So far, she has been able to refrain from this action.

4. Dirty Clothes Rule - If you have made the decision to put something in the dirty clothes, do not later decide that you, for some reason, now need to retrieve it by digging through the clothes baskets, leaving behind a mess that looks like a small tornado whipped through the laundry room, leaving a scene of devastation in its wake. Special note: The only thing worse than having to put stinking clothes in the laundry baskets is having to do it over and over and over.

5. Pockets - Check your own pockets before you put dirty items (again, make sure they are dirty first) in the laundry room. Have you ever tried to pick tiny pieces of white paper off an entire load of dark clothes? No? I thought not! But the next time this occurs, you will have the pleasure of this experience. Special note: In the future, all money found in pockets becomes the property of the laundry-doer, and that most assuredly will be Mom, who hopes to be able to save up for a Caribbean cruise, which she will go on alone. She has heard that you don't have to do laundry while you are on a cruise!

6. Folded Clothes Rule - When those clean clothes miraculously appear on your bed or chair, graciously thank the saintly person who lovingly placed them there and PUT THEM AWAY! Special note: Failure to do this in the future will result in a generous contribution to Goodwill.

7. General Dirty Clothes Rule - If they aren't dirty, why the heck are they in the laundry room? Put them back in your closet or drawers. When you decide to try something on and decide that it will not make the fashion statement you were looking for that particular day, think twice before you make that conscious decision that it is easier to throw the item in the dirty clothes rather than hanging it back up. Again, Goodwill would love to have these items, as their fashion standards must not be as high as yours.

8. Laundry Sharing - In the future, each of you will be required to do one load of laundry a week. Instructions will be provided. Mom feels that the joy of this household chore should be shared, and she has been very selfish about this in the past. She also feels that this is a necessary life skill, and without it, you may not ever want to leave home. This would not be in the best interest of your parents.

Note: Rules may be added or modified at any time by Mom.

THANK GOD! THANK GOD! THANK GOD!

Sunday night, as I sat on the bed eating a snack with my son Seth, I got the thought, "Turn on the laptop." Figured it was futile as I tried over and over Saturday night. But, I plugged it in and turned it on. I've never been so happy to see "COMPAQ" come up in those big red letters!

I don't know whether the coffee I wiped out of the part of the inside of computer I could reach, did it...that the circuits had to dry from where I wiped them before they would work. Or that the gooey coffee dried up enough for it to work. Or, my theory on it, God wiped it up for me. :o)

At the end of the E-mail in which I told you of my laptop disaster, I asked you to pray that the repair on it would be cheap...well, NOTHING sure is cheap! I can't thank my prayer warriors enough!! I was SO miserable since this happened, crying a few times over it. Tonight I cried happy tears.

But, this disaster is making me rethink all that's been going on with my newsletters (mainly not having enough time to get them out as often as I'd like). Plus, maybe because of the previous statement, I've become frustrated with them, upset at the huge loss of subscribers in the last 2 years, tired of dealing with them, and sometimes downright disgusted with them.

I'm not totally sure of the course that the newsletters will take. I'll consider my options and let you all know what will take place.

One thing I know I'm doing, is put some important things for the newsletter into Word files and save them to disk. That way if I do lose the computer totally, I can have the info to put into a new computer, or into my parents' computer.
