I can compare my Goat Island Skiff's(GIS)side flares to the Hap's Cut (HC)and
form a hypothesis? Jim M will need to address the real math. ;)
My GIS has a flare of 110 degrees at maximum beam where the sides mate with the
bottom. My HC has a flare of 106 degrees at maximum beam. (dry fit and
incomplete construction) Since the flares of the GIS and HC are so close and
having sailed the GIS for 2 years now,I project the following:
a) HC will carry more rum than the GIS.
b) my wife will enjoy the cabin
c) HC will heel and settle in naturally at about an angle of 10 degrees.
d) As the boat is loaded with camping gear/people the stability of the boat will
increase.
e) the boat will remain stable/controllable/comfortable heeled to about 45
degrees.
f) boat will surf easily and in a controlled manner
I have recovered from a few near capsizes that have put the sides of the GIS
nearly flat on the water, maybe at an angle of 60 degrees, so I expect similar
stability.
These are just my wild guesses at this point. I did select the Hap's Cut because
the flares where close to my GIS and I really love how my GIS sails.

interested in how much stability that kind of flare could add at high angles of
heel.
