Subject: SUNSET CORNERS: Vega Sicilia's Pintia from Toro scores 94 pts from Parker

2002 Pintia, from Vega Sicilia
Toro, Castilla Leon, Spain

This deep, dark red comes from Vega Sicilia's winery in Toro. This is
only the second release from this winery. The first sold out in one
week! We have a limited amount available.

Review by Robert Parker
Wine Advocate #159 (Jun 2005)
Rating: 94 points
Drink 2005-2013
From a challenging vintage for Toro, Pintia's 2002 is among the finest
wines produced in that appellation. Pintia is a project of Vega Sicilia,
who believes they produced a better wine in 2002 than in 2001. I'm not
sure I would go that far, but there is no question the 2002 Pintia comes
close to the 2001. It is a powerful (14.5% alcohol), dense
ruby/purple-tinged offering displaying flamboyant aromatics of
blackberries, scorched earth, espresso roast, and cedar. Voluptuous,
dense, and heady, with plenty of fat and glycerin, this is a
head-turning, exuberant Spanish red to drink now and over the next 7-8
years.

Thank you for being a part of Miami Wine Tasters. The purpose of this message
is to provide you with relevant group practices information and etiquette
suggestions. Please consider printing this message for future reference.

SOCIAL STUFF
We get together periodically at different wine venues around town. We hope you
join us. The online contacts are fine, but nothing takes the place of
face-to-face discussions with wine on hand. Indhira Limardo (305-588-7909,
indhiralimardo@...) is the group's social liaison. She handles all
social aspects of the group--informal tastings, parties, etc. Please contact
Indhira with suggestions and requests for group gigs.

PARTICIPATE
We hope you participate in the group actively. If you know about an upcoming
tasting, dinner, function, party, or whatever, *speak up* and tell us about it.

The groups primary function is to provide information about wine-related
events. If you dont share your event information, we misallocate a valuable
resource: you. So, please don't assume that someone else will post the
information you have; others will similarly assume that somebody else will and
then nobody does. So, as soon as you get it, post it!

Similarly, please provide your input about tastings and events you attend, about
wines you purchased locally, and in general, about anything else that fits the
group's bill. The key is to exchange information among group members. Hey, you
may not be Robert Parker, but we want to hear from you.

STAY ON TOPIC
The subject of the group is WINE in the MIAMI area. Please keep your postings
to that topic. It's OK to take a little latitude in the subjects we discuss,
but please stay close to the group's core subject as much as possible.

NO PRIVATE MESSAGES
If you are sending a message of a primarily private nature, please send it only
to its intended recipient. Again, please remember that group messages go to
everyone. So, for example, if you are making reservations for a tasting, dinner
or other event, please don't post an RSVP to the group; send it privately. The
idea is to conserve bandwidth. We all get too many damned e-mail messages as it
is; no need to get more unnecessary ones.

UNMODERATED
Please remember that this is an unmoderated group. As soon as you press the
<enter> key, whatever you wrote in your message goes to everyone. Nobody
censors what you say before you say it. So, be judicious in your writing.

HOW TO GET ONLY ONE MESSAGE PER DAY
If you wish to receive at most one message per day containing all of the day's
messages, you can so choose. Simply tell the groupmeister to configure your
subscription that way (send your request to LeoBueno@...). However, note
that you will not receive message attachments; this is a Yahoo system
limitation.

You can also do it yourself online at the group's web site
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/miamiWINE by setting your personal profile option
to "Daily digest" at the "Edit My Membership" web link. Note that you need to
first register (at the "Register" link) if you are not already registered with
Yahoo or "Sign In" if you already are.

Attachments Caveat: Note that if you choose to receive a daily digest you will
not get message attachments, including graphics. This is a limitation imposed
by the Yahoo system. Sorry, there's nothing we can do about it.

HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE
If you wish to unsubscribe from the group, send an e-mail to
miamiWINE-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com and then respond to the system's
unsubscribe confirmation message. You can also unsubscribe at the "Leave Group"
web link.

PROSELYTIZE
We all benefit from the critical mass and network effects. The more wine
drinkers we have in the group, the more valuable the group becomes to everyone.
So, please tell other wine drinkers about the group.

THANKS
Again, thanks for being a part of the group. If you have any questions or
concerns, please let your humble groupmeister know. We hope you enjoy the
discussions and can benefit from the information available in the group.

We have some slightly used wine shipping boxes available. They are cardboard boxes with the styrofoam inserts. If anyone is interested, we would like to get rid of them for free rather than put them on the curb as garbage next Friday. Drop us an email if you're interested. There are 16.

Stephanie, yes we still have the boxes and they are in very good shape. We used them once from California to here. I tried calling your cell phone, but I am not sure what the number should be? You have listed too many numbers below... please check and send again. Or you can call us at home. 305-899-5847. Dan

The good news is that following on the heels of the great 2000 vintage,
2001 represents a second extraordinary vintage for Italy in Piedmont.
The bad news is that next year's releases (2002) will not be nearly as
good. Many of you may remember that our offering of 2000 Barolos almost
completely sold out in one week. As a result we urge you to carefully go
over this list and reserve the wines you want immediately. In most
instances we have only between 12 and 36 bottles of each wine. The wines
arrive early next week! Mix and match any 12 bottles and take a 10%

Concha y Toro Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 (Chile)

Regular price: $44.99

Packed in a beautiful wooden six pack

"I feel very fortunate to have tasted this wine from every vintage that
has ever been made, and this is one of the very best. That is saying
something, as it may have a more distinguished track record than any
other wine from South America. Always wonderfully soft, with tannins
that are unbelievably fine in grain, this vintage shows especially ripe
and penetrating fruit flavors. Subtle accents of cedar and wood smoke
lend additional interest, and though this will develop for another
decade, it is thoroughly enjoyable immediately." 94

Three highly respected wine publications have called the 1990 Krug
Champagne about as close to the perfect champagne as has ever been
produced. The average retail on this bottle around the country is over
$200 a bottle. But not at Sunset Corners!
Check out both the reviews and this sale price!

Krug, 1990 Brut
THE WINE NEWS 100 pts.
Bright gold hue with ribbons of tiny bubbles. Extremely intense aromas
of browned apple, orange, honeyed nuts, maple, Sherry and baking spices.
Weighty, well-balanced flavors of cooked apricot, citrus, baked apple,
malt, caramel and beer. Long berry and caramel finish; deserving of a
perfect score two years in a row. $205 / 5,000 cases

By Stephen Tanzer

97 pts.
($205) Full copper-gold color. Initially restrained, brooding nose
exploded with aeration, showing apple, orange, apricot, honey, iodine,
smoke, hazelnut, macadamia and a suggestion of dry oloroso sherry.
Dense, full, chewy and rich; an extraordinarily solid Champagne with an
intriguing suggestion of Calvados. Broadens toward the back and goes on
and on on the echoing aftertaste, with rich, mellow notes of toffee,
brown butter and marrow. Like the '92 Clos du Mesnil, this displays its
powerful underlying acidity with aeration (Krug's wines never go through
malolactic fermentation) and should be long-lived.

Krug Brut Champagne 1990
Wine Spectator Score: 98

  Price: $205
  Issue: Aug 31, 2004
A profound wine of great depth and complexity. Its detailed flavors
range from citrus and ginger to whole grain bread and woodsy richness,
with accents of honey and nuts. Retains its focus thanks to a vibrant
structure, all the time carrying its weight with authority and grace.
Fine, smoky finish. Drink now through 2020. 1,500 cases imported. (BS)

2001 Piedmont Sale

After many conversations with the growers from this region I am convinced that one thing is for sure.  The 2001 vintage of Piedmont could be more superior than the

100 point vintage rated in the Wine Spectator for 2000.  More on that in a moment,   Renato Corino and the Revello Brothers were here last year for a wine dinner introducing the 2000 vintage of their wines which we delicious if you opened them up early enough.  They both told insiders at the dinner that the 2000 vintage in their opinion will, in the long run,  be over shadowed by the wines of the 2001 vintage.  Also an un-named source mentioned that they were aware of some extraordinary debauchery that went on during the week that James Suckling tasted the 2000 vintage in Piedmont, maybe influencing the vintage 100 point rating.  So here are a listing of our most favorite producers and our meager allocations that are here in the shoppe now.  The wines will go fast so let us know what you want before they are all gone.

One of the best things about my job is that I am blessed to have the
opportunity to regularly drink great wines with a host of people. Truth
be told, I drink better than almost anyone I know. Why? Because so many
friends and clients choose to share great bottles with me. Through the
years, as you might imagine, I have developed a few favorite children.
Let me share with you (and please don't tell because I don't want to
insult the many winemaker friends I have), Dominus Estate has always
been on my personal"must buy" list. This is an interesting wine. It is
never a blockbuster when first released. In fact, often in blind
tastings of young wines, it scores in the middle of the pack. But ten
years later- WOW! In the last few months I have had the occasion to
drink both the 1990 and the 1994. In both tastings, Dominus was right
there winning the beauty contest in competition with the Premier Grand
Cru of Bordeaux. The 2002 Dominus represents a Dominus that will rival
the finest vintages ever produced. Don't miss out!

2002 Dominus Proprietary Red Wine
Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Proprietary Blend (a dry red table wine)

Review by Robert Parker
Wine Advocate #157 (Feb 2005)
Rating: 96 points
Drink 2008-2030
Dominus is a large vineyard, and they have the ability to make a strict
selection. The 2002 Dominus gets my nod as the greatest example of this
cuvee since the 1991 and 1994. There are 4,500 cases of this 85%
Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot
blend fashioned from minuscule yields ranging from 1.8 to 2.8 tons of
fruit per acre. Christian Moueix told me that the phenolic material was
higher analytically in 2002, as were the acids, which surprised
everyone. The deep, saturated purple-colored 2002 boasts an
extraordinary perfume of roasted coffee intermixed with black currants,
cherries, cocoa, cedar, cigar smoke, and new saddle leather. A classic,
full-bodied palate possesses great structure, tremendous depth, loads of
tannin, and a multilayered, concentrated yet elegant finish. It is
difficult to predict when this beauty will plateau in terms of maturity.
My best guess is it needs 3-5 years of bottle age, and should last for
25 years.

One of the interesting things at Dominus is that when I do my tastings
they open and decant the same wines the day before, and the wines with
extended aeration always reveal more complexity and sweeter tannin than
the just opened bottles, a characteristic purchasers should take into
consideration. Decanting several hours in advance is recommended. Kudos
to the brilliant Christian Moueix for these achievements ... the most
distinctive and individualist Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines of Napa
Valley.

Michael,
You keep mentioning "Save the Date, March ....." What is the event? The Sobe fest is just a couple of weeks before this one. What is the difference between them? What does one do that the other doesn't? I know the Sobe is on the beach. Where is the one you list?
