MermaidsUK Parents is a UK-based support, information and friendship list for the parents or guardians (or foster parents) of "gender variant" children and teenagers, up to and including the age of 18 years. These young people will all have some kind of gender identity issue - of which some may be transient, some permanent - either way, the situation can be a difficult one for all concerned. The list is connected to Mermaids (http://www.mermaids.freeuk.com) which is a UK support group for such young people. The list is owned and moderated by a parent of a young transwoman. The list is primarily aimed at families in the UK and Ireland, but those elsewhere are welcomed. Any queries, please contact us at mermaids@freeuk.com.

On application to the list, you will be sent a questionnaire - please respond to this otherwise your membership will not be approved.


List rules (which will be strictly enforced:-
*No flaming.
*All members to be the parents/guardians/foster parents of a child aged 18 or under with a gender identity issue.
*No-one to join the list who is looking for relationships or dates.
*All members to post a brief intro to themselves immediately after joining (continued membership will be dependant upon their doing so).
*All posts to the list, and information contained therein, to be kept in strictest confidence. If you wish to pass something on elsewhere, please seek permission from the author.
