I'm not sure about all these recent members and posts, but if it
continues I'll have to drop the automatic sign up. In the meantime I
deleted Julia and her message.
Once again I apologize for these folks who have their own agenda
busting into the group.
I will try and keep this free of spam as much as I can.

Dear MegaCon Gamers,
The next Megacon will be held March 7th – 9th, 2008. We are starting
to get our gaming schedule put together. As soon as we begin the
schedule of events we will start posting it on this group and will
continue to add to it on a weekly basis.
Any questions you have about gaming can be directed to me. As games
are added to the schedule we will also add contact information for
the person handling those games in case you have a specific question
about that game. Some games will be free and some will have a small
entrance fee to offset the cost of prize support.
If you are interested in running a game at the show please contact me
or Beth Widera at info@.... We must have all gaming
information submitted by November 15th in order to get the schedule
printed in the pre-registration booklet.
We will try to honor all requests for game space but, please keep in
mind that we have limited space and may not be able to honor all
requests.
Gaming space requests will be closed on January 31st or when all
allocated space is full.
Best,
Joe Caso – Gaming Coordinator
Beth Widera – Show Promoter
Greetings !
GW gaming is being finalized and I can now state that we will have a
2250 Point Fantasy RTT on Saturday and an 1850 Point 40K RTT on Sunday.
If you have any questions about the Fantasy RTT you can contact us or
War Dogs Game Center. 40K questions can also be directed here or to
Rhubarb Games. Both stores can be found in the Links section.
Later,
Joe
Yeah! Tree Huggers or Stunties will be taking the field!

From the meeting with Beth yesterday, it seems that there may be some changes in space.
One possible change is to open the gaming area and have everyone in one big room...like Dragon Con. Could I suggest capping the seating for each Warhammer game to 30 players? They get their own draped off area.

Blackmoor and Living Greyhawk often have whole room events like Interactives. Having them all in one room may disturb other gamers.

It is better to put RPGers in different rooms. It gets just to loud
with everyone in the same room.

I am open to how the gaming is set up. Big room vs several smaller rooms.
I've been to cons with both and I myself have no preference. For maximum exposure I'd guess one big room. Makes it easier to find gaming that way.
I'd love to have the problem of capping the GW games at 30. Based on the past 2 years I don't even think we'll see 20. However, it War Dogs and Rhubarb and I can get the info out to GW we may have more visibility in White Drawf and their website.
I will try and work with Skip and Devin on that.
If you and Beth (Mrs. Ed) are thinking of coming up to Rapier. Dealer tables start at $20 for a 3x5 of equivalent table. A couple of dealers form Recon will be there, but none of them are a gaming
store like yours. Boxed games and dice would go over well.

30 for the Warhammer RTTs would be awesome.
I must sharpen my battle axe in the meantime.

It's a spamming come-on... they spam us and hope that we fill out the form on their site and then they spam us individually for real.
At least, that's my take on it.

So far there have only been three of these that I can recall. Since it can still be managed I'm not too concerned.
As I stated in a previous post the one way I know to stop this from happening is the sign up procedure for the group. Whoever wants to join will have to write a reason why.
I want to avoid that if I can, but if this becomes a frequent problem I will have to institute the change.

Well - It was only a matter of time before it happened again.
I've removed "Biker" from the group.
Just to let you know Mr. Ed is working on setting up an independent
forum where Megacon Group members will be able to post without the
fear of spam messages.
Once he has set things up a message will be posted and we can all
migrate to that site.
Until then please bear with us.
Thanks,
Joe
OKAY -
With the recent spam messages to the group I've changed the method of
joining.
Now I will screen all new applications. Hopefully that will cut down
on the spam messages for inappropriate sites. This is for the con and
those sites are not appropriate for here.
If we can get that separate forum running that also should cut down on
the spam.
Later
Thank you.
My wife recently told me I should stop gaming, what with all the sexy
bikers and all.

actually it will if we can get an independent forum running we will have the ability to screen out existing and upcoming problems. Also the main reason with these spammers is the fact that this is a free area hosted by yahoo which means no variable controls or power just the general hosting.

If we can establish a new site, and Ed is working on it, we'll have a direct link from the MegaCon site for the forum along with a greater ability to list games and sign up for them.

Good luck with the forum. I've tried to do similar things with other
Yahoo groups but have often gotten poor responses from members of the
group. They complain that people won't move to the forum or that we
won't get traffic in the forum because the Yahoo group is so much more
visible.
But rest assured, if you switch to a forum, I for one will be right
there. I prefer forums because even though they might not completely
stop the spammers, they'll reduce the amount of spam to almost nothing.
I'm speaking from experience on this as I run a forum.
The only way I know of to completely stop the spam is for an admin to
approve every user account, but that takes a lot of time and will tend
to alienate to many people. Just keep me up to date as to where the new
forum will be and when it's online!
