German Shepherd Dogs were designed to be working dogs. That was Max von Stephanitz's goal when he set out to create the versatile dog we all know and love, the German Shepherd Dog. When breeding GSD's, the dog's proven working ability must be at the forefront of any breeding decision, but balanced with correct structure. Without this working ability, we are no longer breeding German Shepherd dogs. The SV in Germany (Verein fur Deutsche Schaferhunde)has utilized a testing program for close to 100 years, refered to as Schutzhund. This program has successfully maintained the German Shepherd as it was designed to be, the most versatile of working dogs, able to succeed as a Search rescue dog, Police patrol dog, Drug detection dog, Leader service dog, Family companion, and much more. Through this list we hope to further the breed, and maintain it's working heritage, by sharing important information on breeding, bloodlines, training, and genetic health related issues.
