Re: [MassBaySailors] New - well recent - member Intro

Welcome Ed.
Both Bill and I have gone through the BHSC years ago. I considered doing
what you were doing, but then, boats are too personal for me. But for
recreational sailors who dont' want to deal with the hassles of boat
ownership, it is definitely a good opportunity.

Boston harbor moorings are at a premium. You can probably get better rates
at other places, up in Salem, or in Hewitts cove.
The $4/foot/day rate you mentioned is probably the fee for transient
moorings. The current slip fees for the entire siz months are somewhere
between $110/ft (East Boston) to $160 or so /ft at larger marinas.

There is also the alternative of joining yacht clubs, and use moorings
there. However, usually there is a wait. But I think there are a few clubs
who actually are accepting members right now.

I was intriuged by your boat choice. I am not very familiar with the Pearson
38, but I know the 36, 37 and 39. The 37 is a racer, however, I definitely
would not call the 36 or the 39 a coastal cruiser, unless you are
considering Sailing to the Carribean and Bermuda a coastal cruise. They are
strong boats built to take the ocean well.

I know that the BHSC is very much into Pearsons, however, if you are ready
to spend the money for a Pearson 38 I would recommend looking into other
brands too. There are many Tartans, Bristols Catalinas available

Interesting ...
I would not consider the Pearson 38 a firs
