Tim:
You can buy them with a clever spill proof cap from:
http://www.hardwareandtools.com/invt/3598125
We usually carry 2 or 3 peer side lashed to fender boards and the shrouds/chain plates.
Please contact me offline for a battery operated pump that facilitates empting them when under way.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that sells the older style
rectangular jerry cans for diesel. It appears walmart only stocks
gasoline cans in the new rounded shape that doesn't make it convenient
to lash to lifelines or anywhere else on deck. I missed out on a couple
yellow plastic ones at a garage sale, but didn't measure demensions on
my boat in the aft lazerette where I could store it at least while
underway then move it to the exterior cockpit once the hook is down.
Do I need to go to an auto parts store to find one?
