SUNDAY was an unbelievable sailing day ...

 

On Sunday Winthrop YC held it's annual (in-club) Viking Cup Regatta.

 

As you may be aware the winds were strong NNE 10 to 15 with gusts 20+ knots.

Our course started at the Red & Green (6 & 7) Winthrop channel markers just off Logan airport (President's flats) .. straight out past Dear Island Light, up through The Narrows past the north side of George's Island around George's on the Hull side past George’s on the south side and up to Nubbles channel and straight back to the 6 & & bouys.

 

This was a 8.17 mile course, the winning time was about 1 hour & 13 minutes.

 

This was the fastest Viking Cup race most could remember. We often get light or no winds and we are out there for 2 to 3 hours.

 

The race was followed by a very enjoyable dock party lasting until dusk.

Most, if not all, of the WYC Regatta Committee and many WYC sailors are also member of this MassBaySailors Yahoo E-Group.

 

Needles to say it was a fine time with no mishaps! We even had the producer/camera man, Mike, from the Winthrop Community Access Cable TV channel on the committee boat catching much of the action. Stay tuned for our ESPN debut.

The 2006 Viking Cup was run today. It was an exciting race with Ballycroy crossing the finish line 33 seconds after Choucas. The first six boats raw times were all within 10 minutes.
