Welcome to Many Paths of Natural Learning - Western Maryland Umbrella Group. We are approved to oversee home instruction in the state of Maryland and the Western Maryland branch supports families in Frederick and Washington Counties.


We at Many Paths believe that families and students learn best when self- motivated. We strive to help you accomplish this goal.

Many Paths holds the beliefs that learning is a lifelong process and homeschooling is a family adventure.

Our goal is to support families in helping their children to follow their own path, while capitalizing on their strengths and learning styles.

We recognize that each family has an intuitive insight as to what choices are best for their children's educational outcome. Many Paths embraces families of all faiths and belief systems as well as various homeschooling styles. We focus on commonalties and mutual respect to help you develop the most natural learning environment for your family.


Many Paths will support and give guidance and direction as requested on educational resources and activities to best enhance your learning environment. Many Paths is approved to oversee home instruction and we do not require that any statement of faith be signed, that any church be joined, or that there is any type of inspection in your home. Many Paths is minimally intrusive and adheres to the COMAR requirements set forth for homeschooling umbrella groups, without adding any additional requirements.

The Western Maryland branch of Many Paths is headed by Michelle Tuwiner, M.Ed., a certified special education teacher who has homeschooled her two children, ages 4 and 8, since the beginning. Her experience teaching students of all ages and learning styles, combined with her commitment to and passion for homeschooling, provide a solid foundation of support for other homeschooling families.
