Eschatology is a hot subject. "Prophecy" is a regular feature in supermarket tabloids, and it recently made the cover of Time magazine. Interest in the subject fuels countless water cooler conversations, myriad "end-times" Web sites and the whole Left Behind publishing juggernaut. But in many quarters of the Christian community, that same intrigue over "what happens at the end of the story" is balanced by bewilderment, even embarrassment over what the Bible and its various interpreters say. For these Christians in particular (and less so for inerrantist end-time enthusiasts), this book is a welcome, comprehensive and accessible guide to exploring what the Bible says about the future. Hill, a professor of New Testament at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., wants to show "that the idea of God's triumph is central to Christian faith and that a working knowledge of the concept is essential to an informed reading of the Bible, particularly the New Testament." He begins with a primer on biblical interpretation, then addresses prophecy throughout history, the biblical books of Daniel and Revelation, Jesus' expectations for the future and what those expectations were for the earliest Christians. The book closes with an appendix on the Rapture. It all reads like a good lecture, punctuated with summary lists, illustrative diagrams and funny asides (though some readers may find the latter off-putting). Greenleaf, one of the principle founders of the Harvard Law School, originally set out to disprove the biblical testimony concerning the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He was certain that a careful examination of the internal witness of the Gospels would dispel all the myths at the heart of Christianity. But this legal scholar came to the conclusion that the witnesses were reliable, and that the resurrection did in fact happen. In a recent TV show that aired on 4/14/03 titled 'April 1865' featured on the History channel President Abraham Lincoln twiced dreamed the following dream before his death. In his dream Lincoln would hear someone crying and then would search throughout the White House room by room to finally discovering someone in a room bitterly sobbing over a dead body covered in fine linen cloth. President Lincoln then inquired as to the identify of the deceased. In answer to his reply, it's the president someone has assassinated the president.

Gripping and accurate ...the ending will bring you to tears!, January 30, 1999 Reviewer: A viewer from Lexington, KY - As a teacher of ancient history with a doctorate in Biblical theology, I can say--without hesitation, this account of the Joseph story is as good as it gets! Although some of the sexually explicit (though historically accurate) scenes should be screened from the very young, this film is an ideal platform from which teens can search out characteristics of moral uprightness in a character of whom the Bible has not one negative thing to say! Kingsley (as he did in 'Moses') steals the show, and Mercurio does an admirable job as Joseph. Especially capable are the actors portraying Joseph's wicked brothers, with Vincenzo Nicoli sterling is his performance as the wicked Simeon. Having watched the film dozens of times with adults--as well as with my middle-schoolers in the classroom, I can say that the greatest of Bible stories is captured in all its power, pathos, and glory. Although creating a few anachronistic vignettes (such as Joseph's 'foreshadowing' Christ's "My God, my God..." speech from the Egyptian prison, the film also captures all of the great ironies of the Joseph story. When Mercurio tenderly reveals himself as the second most powerful man in the ancient world--to the brothers who hated him as a youth, the words 'I am Joseph' will not fail to bring even the most calloused heart to tears. As my students synthesized the thirty or so characteristics of moral goodness extant in Joseph into an essay, one asked why no such heroes existed today. The question revealed both the effectiveness of this presentation, and the dearth of role models in our society. 'Joseph' is both gripping in narration, and brilliant its direction. It is faithful to Scripture and well-acted. It is THE finest of the TNT productions to date, of which only one ('Jacob') was a failure. Everyone will appreciate this wonderful story of forgiveness.

His unwilling initiation is quite scriptural and you really sense the power of the counter culture which he has to battle against. Nevertheless, as he embraces his calling his influence, through God's direction, begins to hit home and you experience his turmoil as not only he suffers, but the cities of Judah suffer as they reject Jeremiah's word to them. This film is gripping and highly motivating for the believer - will you and I follow as hard after God and His will and, like Jeremiah, be willing to lay everything down for God's call on our lives?

Unexpected Treasure, March 26, 2001 - Reviewer: A viewer from Washington DC - After the disappointing "Left Behind-The Movie" and the "Noah" fiasco, I was a little cautious in purchasing this video. But the videos in this series have proven that there are excellent quality, biblical, movies available. I was very pleased with how close the director walked with Scripture. I wasn't certain upon viewing the movie so I had to go back and check for myself. Solomon never married the Queen of Sheba. Solomon just gave her whatever she wanted and she simply went home (I Kings 10:13). But I understand the desire to read a little romance into the story. It helped me realize that it's still "Hollywood" and helped me research a little more. I can't complain about that. Overall this was an excellent movie! It's a good way to spend a few relaxing hours. Ben Cross was convincing as the "king with many wives" and Vivica's eyes worked perfectly behind the veil. Hard to resist. Great series! Great movie!

Focused on the human element, May 3, 2002 Reviewer: kem2070 from Seattle, WA USA - This is another of the Bible series from Trimark Home Video. This one precedes "Jeremiah" and "Esther." King David's naming Solomon his successor, as well as David's death, begins the film, while the death of Solomon and succession of Rehoboam finishes. The focus of the film is more on the human part of the Bible rather than divinity. God is present, but the producers are showing us how we allow our human nature to stray from Him. At first, this was a little off-putting. It seemed the film was more concerned with political intrigue and lust. In retrospect, I see that we are to learn something about our own nature. I would recommend this movie.
