Description

A major item on the Canadian Culture of Peace Action Plan is Provincial Conferences on Peace Education and the Culture of Peace, since education is a provincial mandate and it is at that level we must engage government and Ministries of Education. There is a significant consensus among peace educators that a requirement to achieve a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence is peace education integrated into all spheres of education, including non-formal education. I would like to invite you to join this new email forum to promote discussion, networking and information dissemination with respect to peace education for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence in Manitoba, and facilitating annual Manitoba Peace Education/Culture of Peace Conferences. I hope you will join us on this forum for peacebuilding in Manitoba, and linking with the Canadian peace education & Culture of Peace action plan. Bob Stewart stewartr@peace.ca

Notes:
1. In the venues of this listserver and our conferences, our primary purpose is to talk about peace education & the Manitoba Culture of Peace Program rather than, for example, the Iraq war, etc.. However, at some time, it might be most appropriate to include the Iraq war in our discussion as a specific case study if it helps us to understand and advance peace education & the Culture of Peace and Non-violence. Members would appreciate it if people would ensure their submissions to the list help contribute toward the advancement of peace education.
2. Solicitation is discouraged on this listserver.
3. Guided by a general philosophy of inclusiveness, peace education can not ignore peace activism, and in fact must incorporate it. An important task that we should undertake is to discuss how peace activism should be incorporated in peace education.
