This is a serious problem and gives the first-time visitor the impression that we are no longer a functioning organization. Only "insiders" know how to work the site, so we talk only to ourselves.

Congratulations to Dan Halloran on his victory. I hope he can bring libertarian ideals to the council. This shows that Goodman, among others, are right that libertarians should run on the line of an established party and behave like libertarians. (That plan didn't work well for Goodman himself, who ran on a party line in a two-way race in council district 17.)

In Brooklyn, two of our candidates, Roger Sarrabo and Noel Burke, beat the Conservative candidate district wide. In both cases the Conservative candidate was not cross-endorsed by some other party. Roger's showing, nearly 4% (the best Libertarian Party result in the city), is particularly significant because his was a five-way race (including a Green candidate, nearly 7%), and in those multi-way races, when a voter wants to vote for anyone but a Republican or Democrat, they have too many to choose.

Many thanks also to the tremendous hard work done by Michael Sanchez (with two-and-a-half times my 2005 vote) and Derek Sacerdote. For complete election results, find the link at the top of the home page of http://www.BrooklynLP.org.

The total vote for Mayor was 1,100,649, so far. Voter registration in New York City is  4,095,561. Nearly three-quarters of registered voters reject democracy as a method of choosing the mayor. And that's just the registered voters. All other vote-eligible residents who are not registered also reject democracy. And a good thing, too. I look forward to the day when they throw an election and no one shows up. Only the candidates will vote for themselves (maybe).

Ha! The voters overwhelmingly reject democracy, democratically.

Gary

I will remove from the Brooklyn LP web site the existing link to the state LP web site and replace it with a link to the state party's ClickAndPledge. That way, visitors interested in donating to or joining the state party will not have to hunt around the state site, guess (twice) where to find the link to join, etc. If you get messages from people complaining about the state site, direct those folks to the Brooklyn site, http://www.BrooklynLP.org.

(The two guesses are these: from the home page, if a visitor is interested in paying dues, he first has to know to click on "Donate" to the party. Then, on the Donate page, he has to ignore all the alleged links to ClickAndPledge embedded in the text, none of which work, and go to the very bottom of the page where it says "Direct link to ClickAndPledge." Visitors might not even know that ClickAndPledge is what they want. The text of my link will say, "Donate to or join the Libertarian Party of New York" and will go to the ClickAndPledge page for the purpose.)

No. The LPNY State Committee just needs to appoint Chris Edes as its Webmaster. Just make a motion, and vote. He's willing.

Subject: [libertarian-324] Libertarian candidates win on November 3
Date: Fri, 6 Nov 2009 17:36:10 -0500
From: Ron Moore <ron_moore@...>

I always hear people asking “what’s the point of running if we never win?”  There IS a point.  Running for office is a powerful and virtually free platform for getting our message across though voter’s guides, video voter’s guides, and many other speaking platforms that are offered to our candidates.  One of our former candidates for Governor even participated in a televised debate with George Pataki.  So we gain even if we don’t win!

But what if we DO WIN?

Check out this list of Libertarian WINS!  Our own Dan Halloran WON A CITY COUNCIL SEAT!  In fairness he ran as a Republican and was cross endorsed by the LP the Conservatives and the Independents.   Many Republicans ask for our nomination and most don’t get it. They don’t get the message of freedom so they don’t get our nomination.  NYC Libertarian Party members tend to be hard core principled Libertarians. So you can rest assured that Dan is a “Freedom Republican”.

I don’t know for sure but this might be the highest seat held by a Libertarian in the country.  Did the LP nomination make a difference?  I haven’t found the vote totals yet but this is what Dan told me.  “This is an R, Lbt, Con, Ind victory!!! Every party was part of our win!”

So congratulations to all the Libertarian winners, and to those who didn’t win yet.  Mark your calendars for 2013 so we can make sure Dan gets re-elected.  And start thinking about 2010.  It’s going to be a BIG year for NYC Libertarians.

Libertarian Party

Dear Friend of Liberty,

I want to congratulate the Libertarians who won their races on November 3.

Additionally, I hope you'll read this thank you note from one of our candidates, Matt Cholko, who did not win. I found his note to be particularly instructive and inspiring, perhaps inspiring enough to get you to run for office in 2010.

A big thank you also goes out to all of the volunteers, donors, and family members who supported Libertarian candidates.

The following Libertarians won their elections on November 3:

Karen Richardson was re-elected to the City Council in John's Creek, Georgia.

Roger Fritz was elected Mayor of Roland, Iowa.

Bill Lynn was elected as an Alderman in Davenport, Iowa.

Nick Taiber got 46% running for City Council in Cedar Falls, Iowa, so he advances to a runoff on December 1.

Andy LeCureaux was re-elected to the City Council in Hazel Park, Michigan.

Dan Halloran was elected to the New York City Council in District 19 (Queens). He was cross-nominated by the Republican, Conservative, Independent and Libertarian parties.

John McAlister was re-elected to the City Council in Gahanna, Ohio.

Michael J. Robertson was elected Supervisor in Licking Township, Pennsylvania.

Berlie R. Etzel was elected Constable in Ashland Township, Pennsylvania.

Timothy A. Russell was elected Mayor in Emlenton Borough, Pennsylvania.

Larry Allen Boyle was elected Mayor in Polk Borough, Pennsylvania.

James Fryman was elected Auditor in Victory Township, Pennsylvania.

Paula L. Meddings and Chad M. Roberts were both elected to the Borough Council of Houston, Pennsylvania.

Susan Haythornthwaite was elected Auditor of Abbott Township, Pennsylvania.

Cathy A. Beeman was elected Auditor of Waterford Township, Pennsylvania.

Randall R. Schwabenbauer was elected Oil City Area School Director in Pennsylvania.

I also want to thank all the other Libertarians who ran for office. We have posted a list of results on the website.

Sincerely,

Wes Benedict

Good for Dan Halloran.  A good momentum starter to be sure.  I sense a sea change coming in the body poilitic, although it's just a gut feeling on my part.  The pendulum has hit its zenith in regards to government intervention in formally private affairs.  The recent Obama/Democrat press feelers, hinting at a coming wave  of soda pop taxes, really hit down home in the American psyche.  It moves the target from the "convenient minority" of smokers to the swarming masses of everyday people.  I hear the term Libertarian mentioned a lot more in conversation these days.

I see my friend Mark Sievers . chmn of the Teller County Republican Party , is giving a great speech equally relevant in NYC . He's an ex-Verizon corporate lawyer very involved with the new local Ute Pass Hospital

The Nationwide End the Fed rally is only a few weeks away (Nov 22) and we are working on plans. At this month's monthly meeting we will review some of the history and economics behind the Fed and the movement to end it and we will also brief you on plans for the rally and get your ideas and input.

We are on the verge of a huge success with the the Audit the Fed legislation but we are also being challenged by opponents who are trying to gut the audit provisions. We need to turn up the heat. Come down and get involved.

Meetup Description

With the threat of a watered down version of HR 1207 & S604 looming, it is time to turn up the AUDIT THE FED pressure cooker! This END THE FED rally marks the one year anniversary of the End The Fed! Movement and it is vital that we continue raising awareness of the cause. With the experience of two prior rally's in NYC under our belt, we have learned a few things to make this protest a bit more productive.

We are taking our efforts to the streets in a more organic, grassroots way. No yelling at empty buildings (well, maybe a little) and no speakers preaching to the choir. Our mission is to educate. Our job is to take our passion and knowledge to the people of NYC in order to garner greater support for HR1207 & S604. Our focus is to drive as many people as possible to breathe down the necks of NY's Representatives and Senators so they can do the right thing "By the People." Our method is to speak with and to put as much literature regarding the Fed in the hands of the public en masse in order to create a new wave of citizens impassioned by the true underlying problem at hand. With your help, the congressfolks who have yet to co-sponsor either bill will be forced to feel the economic pain of the people as they make their voices heard to keep the Federal Reserve Transparency Act and the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act in tact, as written.

We will not settle for anything less and there is no compromise. A full, independent audit of the Federal Reserve is absolutely necessary and crucial for American citizen's to understand why their pockets have been looted; why their savings has been diminished as the dollars' value drops; why the incessant boom and bust cycles exist; why we can "afford' endless immoral wars; why the middle class is disappearing; why the same banks who have gotten rich by robbing us blind in the first place then, again, benefit in the form of bailouts at the taxpayers' expense; why the "lender of last resort" is accountable to NO ONE; And, the beat goes on......

This rally will be short, sweet and powerful. We have modified many AUDIT THE FED document files to include the NYCCFL MeetUp address and posted them here in the files section. The links to these files are provided below. Pick and choose which file(s) suits your fancy and print out as many as you can. No one should come empty handed.

Timeline:

12 noon - Meet at the Fed Bank of NY. Here we will spend an hour getting our selves pumped up while we hand out flyers to the passersby.
1pm - March to Union Square. Pass out as much AUDIT THE FED literature as possible along the way.
2pm - Engulf Union Square for an hour or so to pass out literature until your hands have been emptied.
3pm-ish - Part ways to your favorite means to watch football.

There it is. Three short, productive hours. Again, no one should come empty handed. Keeping the AUDIT THE FED bills in tact may be fruitless lest we continue raising awareness and then providing the newly awakened citizen's the necessary tools to accomplish the timely, pertinent goals put forth in HR 1207 & S604.

Your Patriots @ Arms,

PLEASE NOTE: Lots of literature can be downloaded from the NYC CFL meetup group here

Our December Date will be our 2009 Christmas Party.

The Republican Party is alive and well and in the 2009 election cycle, we saw two huge victories in Virginia and New Jersey, as well as Westchester and Nassau. In New York, we had eleven council races that showed promise for the Republican party and there was real potential in winning seven. At the end of the day, the Republican Minority in the City Council picked up two seats for five council members, the most in over eight years.

New York is a very liberal city. It's a tough challenge for us as Republicans to fight and promote an urban republican message that wins votes. But we are moving in the right direction. Let's hope next year, we pick up some Assembly seats and take back the State Senate. It can and will be done, but we all need to work together. Who knows? Maybe you can be the next elected Republican Assemblyman?

Congratulations to all our candidates who gave us a choice on Tuesday. You all deserve our gratitude.

Daniel Peterson
President.

Just recently got into the FB myself. Yes, you could have someone troll other
lists, join targeted issue groups (guns, taxes, drugs, etc.) and mention the BLP
site. Best way might be to post a news item or article on the site, then mention
it on the FB wall (and provide the link).

Sorry. I see how I was misunderstood. To clarify, Derek offered several tactics, but none of them fit my circumstance and I was unable to implement any of them.

Hey, remember that complex the Pfizer drug company built in CT, over which they drove residents Kelo and others out of their homes via eminent domain abuse? It's closing:

The Famous 'Kelo House' Property Is Now A Vacant Lot
John Carney | Nov. 10, 2009, 9:20 AM

What you are looking at to the right is a monument to government folly.

It is the vacant lot where the home of Susette Kelo once stood.

A decade ago, the town of New London, Connecticut claimed Kelo's house
by right of eminent domain. The plan was to demolish the residential
neighborhood so that Pfizer could built a massive research and
development plant on the adjacent land. Pfizer got the land for next to
nothing. Five Supreme Court justices upheld the taking, ruling that
although the primary beneficiary was a corporation, it met the
constitutional requirement of "public use."

Now Pfizer has announced that it is shutting down the plant.

The Hartford Courant reports:

Pfizer Inc. will shut down its massive New London research and
development headquarters and transfer most of the 1,400 people working
there to Groton, the pharmaceutical giant said Monday....

Pfizer is now deciding what to do with its giant New London offices, and
will consider selling it, leasing it and other options, a company
spokeswoman said.

Scott Bullock, Kelo's co-counsel in the case, told the Examiner's Tim
Carney: "This shows the folly of these redevelopment projects that use
massive taxpayer subsidies and other forms of corporate welfare and
abuse eminent domain."

Here's how the Associated Press describes the vacant lot:

Weeds, glass, bricks, pieces of pipe and shingle splinters have replaced
the knot of aging homes at the site of the nation's most notorious
eminent domain project.

There are a few signs of life: Feral cats glare at visitors from a
miniature jungle of Queen Anne's lace, thistle and goldenrod. Gulls
swoop between the lot's towering trees and the adjacent sewage treatment
plant.

The promised 3,169 new jobs and $1.2 million a year in tax revenues
vanished when the housing bubble popped and brought on the recession.

I was in the studio audience at Fox today for a taping of a Glenn Beck Show that will air Friday 11/13, a town hall type meeting on African-Americans. Beck steered the whole thing towards black conservatives who are against Obama, and the proceedings were tightly controlled. He promised to bring us back to do a Part II of the town hall in two weeks.

I didn't get speaking time (to point out some of those present were not from the major parties), despite a number of tries at signaling for the mic (some people were feverishly pleading for time and didn't get any). At least Angie (a Ron Paul supporter from New Jersey I talked to before the show) got a few minutes to mention the word Libertarian in her comments. Wasn't a total loss, so I'll suspend final judgment until after the next taping.

Hi Freedom Fighters

This note is to remind you that I will be passing out FIJA
literature in front of the U. S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York at 500 Pearl Street in Manhattan
on Monday, November 16, 2009 from 11:45 am until 1:15 pm. The
Department of Homeland Security is now arresting us for
distributing literature and taking pictures on federal property
without a permit. The U. S. Constitution does not qualify as a
	 permit.

I would be delighted if some of you would be present to see if
standing on federal property without a permit will get you cited. If
approached by a police officer and told to leave, ask for the citation
code number with which you are being charged and for the officers name
and ID. If you do not want the ticket, then leave. If you are willing
to be ticketed, then remain. The fine will be $100, if you pay it.

There are now 76 names on the Freedom Fighters list These
	 include contributors to:

1. Liberty works Radio Network
2. Free Talk Live
3. Libertarian News Examiner
4. Energy Round Table
5. NJ Libertarian

Contacts with several relevant organizations are on the list.
	 These include:

1. NJ ACLU
2. NJ & NY Libertarians
3. FIJA national office

There may be other groups or news outlets of which I am not
aware. If you represent or are affiliated with one of them,
	 please notify me.

Today, November 14, 2009, I received a certified letter from
Bellevue Hospital. A copy of my response appears at the bottom
	 of this E-mail.

An interesting development has occurred. On the front page of
the Saturday, November 14, 2009, issue of the New York Times,
it is reported that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, accused of being
the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks, will be tried
in the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of New
York. This is the court where I am distributing jury
nullification literature. Also I have an active case in this
court, where I am suing the NY City police for kidnapping me on
April 17, 2007, across the street from the UN building. Thus
simultaneously there will be two trials. One of these is about
destroying the country, and the other is about improving it.
It is not clear which is which. That depends on your
	 political views.

Undoubtedly, security will tighten considerably. I wonder if
either of us will be allowed to attend our own trials. Keeping
us out will be a problem. In my case, I am counsel pro se, so
who will try the case if I am barred? In Khalid's case, he is
the Defendant, who must be present according to current court
	 rules.

Re: Your undated and unsigned letter

On November 14, 2009, I received your letter stating that you
would like to help me settle my hospital bill. You asked me to
provide identifying and medical insurance information. I
suspect that this is your idea of a Halloween joke. Bad taste!

I was brought to your hospital on both October 26, 2009, and
November 2, 2009, as a prisoner of the Department of Homeland
Security. I was brought against my volition and did not
request any medication or medical advice. In fact I was given
a shot against my loud objections and was forcibly held by 4
men while the injection was administered.

I sought no treatment and requested release. On the first
visit, I was released on the same day that I arrived. On the
second visit, I was held captive overnight.

It is disgraceful that you are using your hospital as a federal
prison holding pen. You have been an accessory to a kidnapping.
You have committed assault. Your credentials as a hospital
	 should be revoked.

Of course, I will not provide you with any information or
medical records, or to pay any expenses. You should arrange
with the Department of Homeland Security to reimburse you for
	 expenses.

I intend to file both criminal and civil suits against your
hospital and some of your staff for kidnapping and assault.
If you contact me again, I will add harassment charges.

Shame on you! Have you no decency?

Sincerely yours,

Julian Heicklen
