Hi Beverly,

Maybe you weren't aware of the fact but when I tried to scan your message in my
inbox my ISP was dialed up automatically so that I could read the ad at the
bottom of your messsage. (I know that I have HTML turned on - rootsweb doesn't
deliver messages in HTML but obviously Maine Families does)

I'm sure it's a rotating ad in support of your email provider or your ISP (I
can't tell and I don't know how to tell) You really need to turn off HTML and
do your postings to lists in plain text (then maybe the ad only appears as text
and doesn't launch anyone's ISP) - I make a point of never dealing with a
vendor that sends me a message that automatically launches my ISP - I only have
so many hours on line each month and I want to determine how I spend my time.
Now if your mail program is free because you've agreed to include these ads, you
really shouldn't be inconveniencing others this way. Get juno which is free but
it doesn't make you send an ad with your message other than the footnote that
appears at the end of each message.

Please, if anyone else can shed a clearer light on why this happens or if I'm
wrong about HTML, I'd like to know.

Colleen Norby

Descendants of William Henry Miller

Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM HENRY1 MILLER was born in Holland?, and died in ,Ny?. He
married RACHEL ELLEN DOUGHTY in Portland, ME, daughter of JOB DOUGHTY and
LUCERTIA BROWN. She was born Bet. April 07 1843 - 1844 in Chebague
Island,Me, and died January 17, 1911 in Buried Chebague Island,Me.

Notes for WILLIAM HENRY MILLER:
The first Miller to come to Chebeague Island ws William Henry Miller.
Family tradition states that he arrived with Captain Daniel Doughty. They
were shipmates on either a fishing vessel or merchant ship. He met Dan's
sister Rachel Ellen, daughter of Job and Lucretia Brown Doughty and they
married in Portland on December 4 , 1862.
According to his marriage certifate, he was from Westport, Maine. His
ancestry is unkown but tradition has it that he was of German or Dutch
decent. (His ancestors may have settled in the Waldoboro area during the
German migration in the 1700's.) More research needs to beeb done on this
line. but there were Millers living in Westport/Southport area c.
1850-60.

He was a deep water man and was in the merchant service. He and his
family resided in Charlestown Mass, at some time during the Civil War.
Some say eh was in the Civil War although no record has been found.
Lizzie Abbie Miller was born and died in Charlestown although no vital
records have beeb located to substantiate this tradition. (One might
write to Mcormick Building in Boston.)

William and Rachel Miller had a home located to the Southwest of
Coleman's Cove on Chebeague. At least 3 of their children were born on
the island. William Miller left on a trip to sea in 1880 (Harry was about
1 1/2) When he didint return and the family had no word of him they
assumed he had deserted them. (Annie ws married at this time, but the
other children were at home) Little was said of him during the next 20
yrs . Rachel had to work very hard and the family became bitter at the
mention of his name. The post office on Chebeague was moved about 1900
and a letter addressed to Rachel Miller was found at this time. It had
been sent many years before by someone in a marine hospital in New York.
The letter stated that William Miller had taken sick aboard ship and had
been brought to the hospital where he had died. The family were notified
that they could claim his personal property. He had been about 44 at the
time. Rachel contacted the hospital but none of his things were there for
20 years had passed.

Rachel was born on Chebeague on 4-7-1843 gravestone says 1844. and died
there on January 17, 1911. She was living on the island at the time of
her marriage according to her marriage certificate. She moved frequently
while rasing her children. She lived in Long Island. Small Point,
Portland Maine, and bates Island. She moved so frequently that she has
not been located in either 1870 or 1880 census. In laterlife she lived in
the Joe Dyer house that was built for her by her sons. She lived with her
son Lewis after the death of his first wife.

Hi all,

I am looking for any info on the Costelloe families of Maine. My Gr Gr
grandfather was Peter Costelloe. He his mother and 3 sisters immigrated there
from Ireland (possibly around 1840-1850s). His mother was Mary, and sisters
Anne, Jane, and Margaret. I have been searching for some time now with no
luck..I have Peter after the civil war in Oregon (where I live) but dont have
any info on his sisters such as marriages or deaths. It seems there is not much
info out there on the Saco area, or many people who are willing to do look ups.
But possibly some of you out there have seen the name at some time or another
and maybe you can help me.

I am a part of a site on the internet (dont have the url right in front of me)
that does obit look ups..so if any of you are tracing anyone here (to Oregon)
let me know and I will see what I can do for you. Thanks for your help. Val

The State of Iowa is considering closing their records to the public.
This has already been done in the State of Illinois where you have to
rely on someone in the courthouse to look things up for you for a fee of

   is $8.00 more.

Many of the people from the East went to Iowa and you may need to obtain

Hi folks,
THANK YOU to all of you who sent me notes there were a lot.
I tried last night to fix the problem even called my brother in law in
idaho.
The computer guru. apparently the PAF program is not "smart" enough or
something.
So I dont know if I will try again or just start constructing a hompage
for the town of
Minot, Maine. I did start on that and I dont seem to be having a problem.
A friend of mine download the PAF program over the weekend and I thought
it looked alot
better then familytreemaker as it had feature that you click on and it
makes a webpage.
Unfortuenly I cant seem to get it to work pass the index page. If I do
get the info up I will let everyone know. Thanks again, and thanks ted
for calling me from maine :)
