Similarities
It's a pity that Christians and New Agers are irreconcilably divided on matters of doctrine. In truth, we are more alike than is apparent. Indeed, we could be the very closest of allies.
Think of our shared antipathy to and persecution by the current world religion and its priesthood. What Christians identify as "secular humanism", New Agers term "rationalistic materialism": the government, media, corporations, and academia which run society and ridicule anything which contradicts their stereotypes. A few decades ago, it was not considered impolite to publicly deride Jews and Blacks. Today, an anti-Semitic or anti-Black remark brings swift rebuke. But still fair game are Christians, New Agers, Shiite Muslims anybody, in fact, whose beliefs are a little different.
We shouldn't have to stand for that crap, any more than the Jews and Blacks should have. But they changed it, and the way they did so was by standing up, shaking their fists, telling mainstream society to get off their cases. But we Christians and New Agers can hardly tell society to get off our backs if we're still at each others' throats. Else we show ourselves for hypocrites and deserve what society dishes us.
Christians and New Agers are also united by our deep respect for life. For many Christians, this is symbolized by the Right to Life movement, and for New Agers by environmental activism. Note that the impulse is basically the same; we're just patrolling different sectors. That impulse is one of saying, "STOP A MINUTE! We're chewing up lives here in our mad rush to gobble gobble gobble" Serving as the conscience of this age, Christians and New Agers are the one pointing out that love, joy, and compassion are somehow getting lost in this shuffle.
And so we come to yet another of our similarities, our shared esteem for moral and spiritual over material values. Both Christians and New Agers are acutely aware that our leaders are lying through their teeth at us, that the whole social / political setup is a sham. While Christians see the scenario as the work of Satan, New Agers view it as the work of stupidity and irresponsibility.* Although actively striving to reform society, both recognize that the real battle is within. The chief goal in life for those in both camps is to master Satan's temptations or the ego's bullheadedness within ourselves. Turning away from society's definition of what is desirable and true, Christians and New Agers alike are tuning in to spiritual solutions to life's problems. Society says to us, "More and More and More!" Both Christians and New Agers reply, "Enough already!"
So here we are together more similar than different within a society that spurns our values and mocks our presence. Still we continue to act as if we were better off divided. And if separatism is where we're at, then perhaps I'd best close with a different thought, tailored to each in turn.
A WORD TO CHRISTIANS: We New Agers don't particularly care to be characterized as nerdy, flaky, or inspired by the devil. You'll recall that the latter charge has also been leveled at your own predecessors at various times and places, and we New Agers don't like being thrown to the lions any more than you do.
A WORD TO NEW AGERS: If we offer ourselves as clearsighted, let's trash our easy assent to the media's distortions and give a better eye to the Christian viewpoint. Take, for example, the creationist versus evolutionist argument. Whether we agree with creationism or not, it is certainly a valid belief, and no less valid in any ultimate sense than the evolutionary belief.** It can't be impeached by ridicule. And there's no way it can be disproven nor the evolutionary theory verified in an apodictic, mathematical sense. The Christians are quite correct in insisting that if evolutionary theory is going to be taught in public schools, it ought to be taught as a theory, not as a fact. Indeed, this is the only valid way to teach evolution, since "science" is merely a body of current opinion. After all, is it inconceivable that evolution may someday go the way of phlogiston and ether? It's just plain, good science to teach evolution as a theory, and the Christians are performing a valuable service to the scientific community in reminding us of this.
Similarly, we must not fall for ploys like the media's savage pillorying of e.g. Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart, and other fallen evangelicals, in its efforts to discredit their beliefs. In fact, the behavior of these men may be seen as a credit to their faith: each had the courage to confess their sins publicly and face humiliation openly. Precisely because of their Christian beliefs, their faith in the power of forgiveness, Bakker and Swaggart exampled a courage few are able to gainsay.
Although many Christian doctrines are as unpalatable to me as New Age doctrines are to most Christians, I respect Christians for their sincerity, their idealism, and their dedication to something beyond immediate gratification and personal glory. At their best, both Christians and New Agers are delivering the same urgent message: it's time now to cut across society's empty chatter and rise up to a meaningful process of healing.

Almanac for February 2012
The purpose of this almanac is to list the most important astrological events each month to help you plan your life in harmony with cosmic currents. You can easily select the best times each month to advance, hold back, confront, avoid, accept, refuse, yield or stand your ground, in order to enhance your chances of success.
Mutual transits are points of inflection, or moments when things could go one way or the other. Often on these days something is discovered, some truth revealed, or a new door opens to us. There are days with favorable times to begin new ventures, to approach others for favors, to initiate healing, to pray or cast spells, to energize amulets and crystals, and so forth. Conversely, in the case of inharmonious aspects, avoidance of these activities is recommended.
What we are trying to do is to tune into the ambient rhythms of the cosmos. We tend to be alienated from the universal harmonies because of our stressful life styles: we feel disconnected, isolated, powerless, adrift and alone in an uncaring universe. We have lost our sense of being part of an eternal, ongoing process.
Astrology can help us to regain our sense of connection to the universe and to the earth by teaching us how to look at our daily lives as a series of lessons. Astrology teaches detachment: we learn that by paying attention to and adapting to the cosmic rhythms, we can come to a deeper sense of connection to the universe and a greater sense meaning and purpose in our personal lives.
The table below includes transiting conjunctions and oppositions of the planets other than moon; Stationary Retrograde and Stationary Direct positions; and the Greatest Western and Greatest Eastern Elongation positions of Mercury and Venus. If the zodiacal degree of the transit conjoins or opposes a planet in your own natal horoscope within two degrees orb, then be alert to what happens this day (and the day before and after). This is a time when the universe sends you important new information. The nature of the event is symbolized by the transiting planet(s); the nature of your response is symbolized by the natal planet(s) at or opposed to the longitude of the transit.
For example, on 2/07/2012 @ 4:03 EST Mercury Superior Conjunction Sun in 17° AQ 59' conjoins Barack Obama's natal ASC in 18° AQ 03', which might bring the President a DECISIVE, ENCOURAGING event which brings him a REORIENTATION.
To launch projects, make prayers, or cast spells, one should use the times in this table in conjunction with the Planetary Hours. Look for a relevant Planetary Hour within 24 hours before the exact time given in the table below. This table is in Eastern Time: in the Central time zone subtract an hour; in the Mountain time zone subtract two hours; in the Pacific time zone subtract 3 hours; from the times listed here. To use Planetary Hours, download the free Planetary Hours calculator from the Magical Almanac files http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MagicalAlmanac/files/How%20to%20use%20Magical%20Almanac/ or from http://www.dearbrutus.com/body_planetaryhours.html. This is an Excel worksheet with complete instructions; however when you open it, it will ask if you want to disable the macros. To make a prayer or cast a spell (for detailed information see the BOS file posted at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MagicalAlmanac/files/Magic%20101/): at the chosen time clear your mind, light a candle and make a fervent, heartfelt wish imagine the scene of your wish coming true as though it were happening right now, all around you. If other people are involved (e.g., if asking for a favor), imagine that you are looking them right in the eye and talking to them as if they were right there in front of you. Let yourself feel the feelings you actually would feel if your wish were to come true. Then watch closely to see how the candle burns: if it's difficult to light it, then it will be difficult for your wish to come true. If the flame burns steadily and brightly, the wish will come true. If the flame smokes or is feeble, or the candle falls over, forget it.

Sensitivity and receptivity to other people's views are required. Also good for scheduling meetings, communicating ideas (Mercury hour) or making important decisions (sun hour). Also good for prayers and spells for understanding and wisdom (use a blue candle).

Use a white candle during a sun hour; take a deep breath, and imagine that all barriers separating you from other people and the world around you have dissolved, and you feel a white light enveloping you with joy! If you are not already channeling your spirit guides, what are you waiting for? It's easy, and it is your point of entry into the world of magic of doing it instead of just thinking about it or wishing for it! Picking Winning Lottery Numbers part I
The information which follows was channeled. Since I don't play the lottery myself, I certainly can΄t guarantee anything to anyone. I use these methods for electing propitious times to ask financial favors; to telephone my buyers; to cast money spells, etc., rather than to play the lottery. However, later on we shall look at some charts of actual lottery winners listed in AstroDatabank to see how the given principles worked out in practice. Consider what follows to consist of tips and guidelines rather than hard and fast rules.
First off, you must look to your natal horoscope, to see if it is a winner's chart. If, for example, your natal sun conjoins or afflicts Saturn, then it is most unlikely that you are going to be winning many lotteries. Sun / Saturn combinations tend to have an inner attitude which prefers hard work, self-sacrifice, self-limitation; and which disdains taking any "free rides" in life. So no matter what you might be telling yourself consciously, on a subconscious level you will reject winning the lottery. I happen to have South Node (bad karma) in the 2nd house of money, so I don't even bother wasting my money buying lottery tickets.
Also, you should only purchase one ticket per lottery draw, no more. Although mathematically it appears as though your chances of winning improve if you purchase numerous tickets; nonetheless, from the magical point of view this shows lack of faith and it is faith that moves mountains (creates your reality). If the Spirit means for you to win, then you'll win; and if not, not. Purchasing lots of tickets isn't going to improve your chances with the Spirit one iota. On the contrary, your lack of faith diminishes your chances. The laws of luck are not the same as the laws of mathematical probability. In the world of humans you can hedge your bets; but when Lady Luck is seated across the table from you, you have to look her straight in the eye and bet your whole stack on one shot. Therefore, to enter the same lottery drawing more than once is to express bad faith and distrust in luck. It is being too pushy, too hungry, too needy. It's evidence of a losing attitude (although here and there, as in case # 7039 below, it has worked).
We are going to describe the system starting from its simplest elements to use in practice techniques which even a beginning astrologer can easily apply. Fortunately, the simplest techniques are also the most important. Then, we will explain the more complex elements of the system (those which require some astrological expertise to apply). The most important part of choosing a good time to purchase lottery tickets namely picking a good Planetary Hour is not dependent upon your individual birth horoscope. Therefore, if you don't know your natal chart you can still use astrology to help. If you do know your natal chart, then it's possible to refine the analysis to a greater degree of complexity. However these operations don't improve your chances of winning any particular lottery; what they do is strengthen your intent to win the lottery (make it more likely that you will win the lottery some day). Again, the laws of luck the way the universe really works are very different than the logic of everyday society.
There is a general karmic flow to the universe. It's what Chinese philosophers termed the Tao the way things really are and happen, as opposed to the way modern society teaches us they ought to be. People can either be in tune with the Tao, floating with the current; or they can be battling against it. Humankind in its primeval state was tuned in to this cosmic rhythm; but ever since it became a thinking and reasoning species (when it turned from hunting / gathering to agriculture) it lost its attunement to the way things are and happen. The way in which we moderns make things happen in everyday life is by thinking, and by trying to get other people to approve of our thinking. But this is not the way to get the universe to respond. We can only get the universe to respond by adapting ourselves to it, by flowing with it, rather than by trying to woo it and impress it (which is they way we get people to respond). We have to allow ourselves to be led, not try to impress the universe with our own self-importance (our feeling of how deserving we are).
Contrary to popular belief about the efficacy of magical techniques, you can only invite luck not command it. You invite luck by strengthening your intent (your feeling that winning the lottery is important). If on a conscious level you are telling yourself that you want to win the lottery, but on a subconscious level you don't really believe you deserve to win, then there's no way you can be a winner no matter what elaborate motions you go through to improve your chances. On the other hand, the very act of ritualizing your entering the lottery (by using the more complex techniques based on your individual horoscope) tends to strengthen your intent to win, and at the same time weaken any subconscious opposing agendas. In other words, the effect of using more complex techniques is psychological and cumulative in effect; its purpose is to transform you into a winner by building up your confidence, and by erasing subconscious doubt that you are a winner. Any magical ritual (in this case calculating favorable days to enter the lottery based on your personal horoscope) which is repeated long enough, with as much sincerity as you can muster, will eventually bring about the desired result. Or at least, a desired result.
One way of adapting yourself to the universe is to use astrology to time your actions according to the motions of the planets. To begin with, pre-selected lottery numbers are useless. All that matters is picking good astrological times. The ideal situation is to purchase your ticket on a day when there are good transiting aspects, for a draw which will occur when there are good progressed lunar aspects. At the moment when you purchase your lottery ticket, only then should you channel (go by hunch) which numbers to select (if it's that kind of lottery). The particular numbers chosen are of no importance whatever: all that matters is the astrological timing of the moment of purchase.
Lottery winners and winning numbers are not predetermined. The situation is in flux until the moment when the winning numbers are drawn; and at that moment the winners are "selected" from among those who entered the lottery at propitious times. Therefore, schemes for preselecting winning numbers are useless since it isn't the numbers themselves which matter, but rather the times at which those numbers were chosen. As mentioned previously, luck can be invited, but not commanded. By entering the lottery at a propitious time you are putting yourself in the best position for luck to "notice" you; and by surrendering your own power of decision at that moment (by choosing the first numbers that come to mind rather than preconceived ones) you are inviting luck to take you with it.
Planetary Hours
The most important astrological point is to purchase your lottery ticket during a favorable Planetary Hour, which if you aren't going to use your own natal horoscope as a reference means a Jupiter hour (since Jupiter symbolizes money and good fortune generally). The Planetary Hours are a system for electing propitious times to act, based upon an ancient Babylonian technique which antedates the zodiac of signs. Even if you know nothing about astrology, you can still learn to apply this technique quite easily. When you open it, it will ask if you want to enable the macros. Since it won't work with its macros disabled, click "Enable macros". You may have to first reduce the Excel security protocol: Tools => Macro => Security => Low). Planetary Hours are the most important issue in deciding when to purchase lottery tickets; so if you don't know your natal horoscope, you can just buy your ticket during a Jupiter hour and know that you've got the most important base covered.
As mentioned previously, however, the analysis can be refined based upon your own natal horoscope, by determining which are your strongest planets for success, and for monetary success in particular. To summarize the system briefly:
1) Purchase your ticket during a planetary hour ruled by your own money planet, or Jupiter. This is the most important point; and the easiest for a non-astrologer to apply.
2) Aim for a draw date which coincides with favorable progressed or converse progressed lunar aspects to your own money planet or to natal Jupiter; preferably when there are background (major) favorable progressed aspects to or by your money planet happening.
3) Purchase your lottery ticket on the day of a favorable transit by or to your own money planet or natal Jupiter (during a planetary hour ruled by your own money planet or Jupiter).
To repeat: purchase your lottery ticket during a favorable Planetary Hour; under a favorable transiting aspect; to bear fruit under a favorable progressed (usually progressed lunar) aspect. Favorable aspects are the trine and sextile; and also the conjunction between planets which combine harmoniously. See the Table of Favorable and Unfavorable Planetary Combinations in the Appendix to this article.
Secondary progressions are also called "day-for-a-year" progressions. To progress your natal horoscope to the present time, just calculate a horoscope for as many days after you were born, as years you have lived. As an example, if 30½ days after you were born the moon in the sky reached the position of Jupiter in your natal horoscope; then we would say your progressed moon conjoined natal Jupiter at age 30½.
You need to find a day within a day or two of a lottery drawing, when progressed moon favorably aspects your own money planet or your natal Jupiter. Progressed lunar aspects usually operate on the very day they are mathematically exact (or on the day before or after). Converse progressed aspects can be as effective as progressed aspects. Progressed-to-progressed aspects (for example, progressed moon trine progressed Jupiter rather than natal Jupiter) are not as effective as are progressed-to-natal aspects. However, you have to use what's at hand; or else be willing to wait for years for favorable configurations.
Take a look at your chart and pick your strongest natal planets according to their aspects, sign positions, and angularity. In this analysis the strength factors are, in order of decreasing importance: unaspected; well-aspected; in ruling or exaltation sign; conjunct an angle. Avoid planets which are afflicted or in their sign of detriment or fall.
It has sometimes been said that speculation / gambling is a 5th house matter. However, it is best to go with any strong benefic planet in the natal 2nd house (the money house); or, if there's not one, then the ruler of the 2nd house (the planet which rules the sign on the cusp of the 2nd house in your horoscope), if it is strong by sign and well-aspected. Otherwise, choose (in descending order): Jupiter; Venus; sun; Mars; or Uranus. Avoid the moon; Mercury; Saturn; Neptune; and Pluto (unless one of them is strong and is ruler of the 2nd house, or located in the 2nd house). Call this planet (or these planets) your "own money planet(s)".
If you don't have such a money planet, then use Jupiter; and if Jupiter's no good either (because it is weak by sign or afflicted by aspect), then try Venus. If you don't have a money planet of your own; and if neither Jupiter nor Venus is strong by sign or house, or well-aspected; then probably the lottery won't be your ship coming in.
At the end of this selection process you should have a planet or two which you can use to find propitious times to purchase lottery tickets. There's no point in using weak, afflicted planets for something like picking lottery tickets. A weak, afflicted Jupiter is never going to bring you luck; but a strong, well-aspected Mars or Uranus can do so.

Statement of Purpose:
In point of fact, this ezine is not about magic, or paganism, or shamanism, or witchcraft; it's not even about astrology. It's not about belief systems at all rather, it's about getting beyond belief systems and analyzing what's really going on beneath the surface. What is the point of rejecting one false belief system the materialism which was inculcated into most of us from childhood only to adopt another false belief system? All belief systems are false, because what's really going on out there in the universe has nothing to do with belief (mind). The universe is made of feelings (intent); not objects (thought forms). The only cogent reason to adopt a variant belief system from the one in which most of us were raised is to provide a counterpoint or contradiction another point of view which will allow us to weasel between the two and ultimately not rely upon beliefs at all.
Although we have been taught that we are abiding, separated individuals embedded in a matrix of space and time, the fact is that this is indeed merely a (false) belief. As explained in the essay on Channeling Spirit Guides*, "In fact, our existence is multidimensional. We not only exist in an infinite number of past and future lives, but we are also infinitely ramified in all the probable realities which branch off from this present lifetime.
Not only that, but within the confines of a single probable reality of a single lifetime, which is all we normally pay attention to or consider to be `ourselves', we are still multiple personalities. That is to say, we are not the same person from moment to moment, but in fact shift from one to another subpersonalities, or thought forms, in response to this or that changing stimulus.
(We) are not solid, continuing, individual beings, but rather are a flux of thought forms (images, opinions, beliefs, and expectations learned from our parents and society) being urged this way and that by spirit forces." Ponder these things well, because they are true. The sooner each of us as individuals wakes up to this fact that we are actually nothing but a momentary conjunction of tendencies the sooner we can stop running about hither and thither and take command of our lives and destinies; and perhaps really accomplish something to save the earth and the human race. That's what the practice of magic is all about.
