I can't remember the name of the place that has taken over the former Park Ponderosa in McFarland. I think it was becoming a Mexican Restaurant. There used to be occasional contra dancing years ago at a VFW in Lakeside. Not sure if that's a possibility any longer. The hall on Dayton? where the winter Farmer's Market is held might work.
Angell Park in Sun Prairie has a *huge* floor. There is (was?) a sizeable, ramshackle polka barn at the Sullivan exit of I-94. Ixonia Fireman's Park has a nice hall. Riverview Ballroom and the Freethinker' s Hall in Sauk. The Lussier Family Center at Lake Farm Park might work. There is always the charming and inexpensive Fischer Hall in Paoli.
I'll add ...
For years, all the contra dancing in Bloomington, Indiana during the academic year was in a room with a tile-on-concrete floor. Summer dancing was done at a park shelter with a rather ordinary concrete floor. Same for summers for the Indianapolis, and Urbana, Illinois dances. There are probably a lot of park shelters in Madison that are as good as the Urbana shelter, and better than the Bloomington one. For an event like this, it might be worth considering lowered expectations about floor quality. Some PA restrictions would undoubtedly also apply. The county park shelter in Blue Mounds might work.
I live in Monona and should know about a Christian organization on Stoughton Rd., but nothing is coming to mind. What is coming to mind is Turner Hall or...
Yet another possibility is Neighborhood House, in the Hospital District. It's yet another community center. I had the 4th Friday dance headquartered there...

Regarding the Olin Park Barn, note that there is a limit to how late a PA can be used there. I beleve it's 9:00 PM. So if a PA is to be used for the entire...
A couple of other points about Olin Park Barn. It 's the most popular shelter in the parks system It's may not be available (they started taking reservations...
Having danced at Olin Park many times in the distant past, I can add that it is often very hot there until the sun goes down, and then the mosquitoes come out...
Happy to call. I was up at Devil's Lake today, and according to the concessionaires, the pavilion there is not available to outsiders. Too bad; it's a nice...

I recently discovered a dance studio for rent. It's not perfect for contra as it has an obstacle in the middle. It's on Odana on the West Side. I'll be happy...
I went ahead and got the specs. There is a dance studio at the Olde Towne Office Park. 6425 Odana Rd. It has a beautiful wooden floor. There is a reception...
A suggestion, born from previous experience, about using ballroom dancing spaces ... Unless shoes are policed very well, the floor will show signs. Swinging ...
Barefoot contra? The Olde Towne space sounds viable, eh? -- Roger Hayes...
