BTW: We HAVE MOVED so do not go to Chagrin Falls! Call me at 440-840-5625 or email me at villagepainterguy@yahoo.com if you need directions.

p.s. YES there will be Cheryl's famous rocket cookies at the party!

We look forward to hearing from you all.

Dear Andrew:

During the summer, my student Jenny Chaney and I attended two of your launches in Aurora.  Jenny is originally from Illinois, and Mark knows Jenny’s mom Cheri who is very active with the rocketry there, as well as, Jenny’s previous participation.    I receive your emails,  and I am replying to yours specifically to see if Jenny and I can stop in on Saturday to “listen to the stories of glory and failure from the launch pad”.   Jenny is my student at Hopewell who is completing her high school requirements—she is a very brilliant young lady with Aspergers,  and I know she would benefit from your group discussions.  Jenny was so excited when I told her about this get-together—she wanted to know if we should bring something.  I will wait for your reply.  Jenny lives at Hopewell in Mesopotamia, and I am a resident of Mespo as well so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find you in Middlefield once I have an address!  Thank you!

I disagree with this. If you prepare a motor before the launch and back the
closures off so the o-rings aren't under full
pressure this shouldn't be a problem. I would rather assemble motors with warm
hands if I can. I flown reloads that were
unsealed as much as 6 months beforehand with no problems.

At the last Skybusters launch I flew 4 motors assembled by the Harding TARC
Team. I showed them how to assemble a reload, but
didn't use any grease or tighten the o-rings all the way, so I applied the
grease on the field. (this really doesn't match this
scenario)

       Mark,

I suggest we not allow any pre-assembled motors (reloads assembled off site) to
be flown at any of these events since o-rings can
shrink inside the motor assembly and leak (causing catastrophic failure) when
exposed to the lower temperatures that can occur at
these launches.

Based on the voting in the polls, the vast majority of those who took the time
to respond are in favor of holding two launches in
December (one at each field) and holding launches in Middlefield in January and
February 2010.

In the voting regarding the date of the Holiday Party, December 5 holds a one
vote lead over December 19. If you would like to
attend the party but haven't voted yet, please do so ASAP.

Regardless of the date of the party, we plan on launching in Middlefield on
December 12/13 to avoid the two weekends of deer gun
hunting season (December 5/6 and December 19/20). We will launch in Aurora on
December 5/6 or December 19/20, opposite the weekend
of the selected party date. Again, for the sake of our hosts, please take the
time to vote as soon as possible so they can plan
and prepare.

Early 2010 launches in Middlefield are currently planned for January 16/17 and
30/31, and February 13/14 and 27/28. You will note
a deviation from our normal second and fourth weekend in January due to our
Section Meeting on the second Saturday, January 9,
and the fact that there are five Saturdays in January.

Hello all.

Just a note about the field. I went out there today and it is dry enough but
bring boots and warm clothes.

If you do not have a four wheel drive..park behind the barn or to the side
(Please see the cool photos Mark posted on the web site). If you prep at your
car it will be a short walk to the pads, dont worry, it is a pretty walk :-) If
you do have four wheel drive and a good clearence with your car, be watchful as
you pull down. There are some small wet holes etc....GO SLOW!!!

Also, It is NOT a good idea to bring any trailers!! there is no place to turn
around that is good.

I hope we all have a great time! There is a good chance we will have plenty of
local folks watching too!

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

The weather forecast looks great for a Saturday launch at the new O'Reilly Field
on Hosmer Road in Middlefield:
http://www.mtmarocketry.org/hosmer.htm

Notification has been made to the FAA, so our new waiver will be in effect with
a maximum altitude of 3,700 feet AGL.

Temperatures should be rising through the low 40s throughout the day under
partly sunny skies with southwest winds at 10 gusting to 14 mph.

Andrew just checked the field and it is relatively dry!

Please check out the pictures on the page linked above for a view of driveway
and parking area on the gravel behind the barn.

See you there!

Stay tuned for updates. A "GO/No-Go message" regarding a Friday launch may be

Since 2002, we have refrained from launching in January and February due to cold
weather. Our new high power field in Middlefield is a farm field that is only
available between fall harvest and spring planting. To maximize the number of
high power launches, is anyone up for some cold-weather launches? (Please vote
before November 28.)

o Hold launches in Middlefield in January & February, weather permitting.
o Do not hold launches in Middlefield in January & February.

I have posted two new polls to the MTMA Yahoo Group.

Please review these polls and vote as soon as you can. We need to notify the
Geauga County Airport of our schedule. Although we have our annual Section
Meeting in January, I would like to let the folks at the airport know about our
schedule for the next few months as early as possible.

or should we hold TWO launches in December, weather permitting, one in Aurora
and one in Middlefield? (Please vote before November 28.)

o Hold one December launch in Aurora
o Hold one December launch in Middlefield

Bruce and I just received an electronic copy of our APPROVED waiver from the FAA
for the O'Reilly Field on Hosmer Road in Middlefield! As requested, the
authorized maximum altitude is 3,700 feet AGL.

Our Thanksgiving weekend launch will be held at the O'Reilly Field:

Kudos to the FAA staff at the Cleveland ARTCC in Oberlin and the Central Service
Center in Fort Worth, TX for working with us and the Geauga County Airport to
make this happen.

MTMA,

The FAA waiver for a high power launch at the O'Reilly field on Hosmer road has
not been approved. This means that we are moving launch to our regular field,
the Harmon Flying Field at 619 Bartlett Road in Aurora, OH on Saturday, November
14 from around 10:00am, until the range closes at 3:00pm.

The weather forecast for Saturday 11/14/09 is; partly sunny (cloud base over
12,000 feet AGL), warming from 49 degrees to a high near 61 in the afternoon,
winds from the south southeast, at 6 mph to 8 mph and turning more from the
southerly in the afternoon. You might want to use streamer recovery to avoid the
rocket eating trees on the north side of the field.

Remember to bring a supply of MTMA 2009 flight cards.

MTMA's Ground Support Equipment for "large" Class 1--Model Rockets and Class
2--High-Power Rockets:
Two 1/4-inch Rods
One 3/8-inch Rod
One 1/2-inch Rod
One 1-inch square Rail with 1/4-inch T-Slots
Three Large Launch Pads

A handful of club members routinely bring out their own large pads with an
assortment of large diameter roads and at least one more 1-inch rail.

We are lacking in the area of a multi-pad controller for the big stuff.
