Parents Lending United Support (PLUS) for the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) does just what the name says. PLUS supports the students, our kids, at MSMS.
This group helps provide a forum for MSMS families to communicate with each other and to receive school updates and information. Messages are not censored.
The purpose of PLUS is to provide a support group for the academic, residential, programmatic, legislative, financial, and promotional needs of the school.
ACADEMIC
The PLUS organization will become familiar with the unique demands of the academic program of MSMS; assist in a public awareness program with regard to the rationale for such a program; provide assistance to the faculty through appreciation programs, regular parent-teacher contacts, etc.; and support the school's college preparation program to assist students in post-secondary education choices.
RESIDENTIAL
The PLUS organization will become familiar with the unique demands of the residential setting of MSMS; assist in all efforts to maintain an appropriate residential environment for MSMS students; and assist in various student activities through such services as chaperoning, providing refreshments, transportation, etc.
PROGRAMMATIC
The PLUS membership will assist in serving in programs including, but not limited to, Career Awareness through speaking to classes, providing sites for internships, and serving as mentors. The PLUS organization will support alumni activities.
LEGISLATIVE
PLUS will develop a local, regional, and statewide network of support for MSMS through contact with representatives and senators and provide necessary input in budget hearings.
FINANCIAL
PLUS will assist in providing personal and business contacts for the MSMS Foundation. PLUS membership will assist with fund-raising projects for special events as coordinated by the school or the MSMS Foundation.
PROMOTIONAL
PLUS membership will assist with recruitment needs of MSMS and public awareness campaign
