Dear Faith Based Leaders,

According to the U.S. Department of Justice there are nearly 800,000 children reported as missing to law enforcement each year. While away from their families, many of these children are at risk of becoming victims of other victimization, often times stripping away their innocence. We must take action and work in collaboration to protect children in our communities.

We believe Faith based organizations are fundamental to increasing awareness and action in our communities about protecting children. To begin this important collaboration and lead local efforts,  The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia are joining efforts to co-host “Protecting Children: Strategies for Faith Based Communities”. This meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 1PM – 3PM at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, 901 G Street NW, Washington DC, room A-5. During the meeting, you will hear from experts about the issues surrounding missing and exploited children and how this problem is impacting communities in the local area.  Attendees will also learn about preventive strategies to keep children safer and will receive free resources to begin local efforts.

Click here to confirm your attendance; or copy and paste the following link:

Together we can help communities identify ways to better protect children and provide families with the resources and tools to help keep their families safer.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on February 27th.

Dear Captain Beach,

Thank you for your kind words. Ms. Lott was the kind of citizen and neighbor
that law enforcement personnel dream of. She attended every PSA meeting, always
called the police when she saw suspicious or unlawful behavior, gave detailed
descriptions of lookouts and provided useful intel. Ms. Lott loved National
Night Out as much as I do and she chastised rowdy neighbors, challenging them to
behave better and she chastised neighbors for not attending meetings.

Finally, I could go on and on about the virtues of Dorothy Lott. She was our
rock and we will miss her. Every community needs a Dorothy Lott. I encourage all
of the good neighbors on this listserv to take their law enforcement activities
to the next level. Don't just monitor this listserv for crime updates, do more;
write a community impact statement (Ms. Lott did) and work more closely with
your PSA personnel. Thank you again.

Thanks for forwarding, Mark. Make sure we have at least one officer and one
sergeant notified to monitor NY Avenue tomorrow morning 6 - 12:30. DDOT should
have traffic control officers on the scene, but in the past this has been a
hit-or-miss proposition, so we'll need to be ready.
