Thanks Mark for the great info; keep the arrests up.  And tell the team that Debbie Smith sends ** XOXOX

Suspect Arrested in Connection with Four Robberies: 900 Block of Bladensburg Road, NE

(Washington, DC)- The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in connection to four robberies of an establishment in the 900 block of Bladensburg Road, NE.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at approximately 4:32 am a suspect entered the 7-11 store in the 900 block of Bladensburg Road, NE and announced a robbery.  The suspect obtained US currency and other store property then fled in an unknown direction.  The suspect was apprehended a short time later without incident when he was spotted during a canvass of the area by Fifth District patrol officers.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, 53-year-old Daniel Henderson Richardson of Northeast was also connected to three additional robberies which occurred on November 22, November 26, and December 7, 2012 at the same location, and was subsequently charged with those robberies.

Tonight, at approximately 2:00 a.m., members assigned to the 5th Police District
received a call to assist a taxi cab driver in the unit block of New York
Avenue, N.E. The taxi driver reported that he was transporting several
individuals in his taxi. He stated that he told them to leave the taxi, as they
were yelling loudly and arguing amongst themselves. Upon leaving the taxi, one
of the individuals snatched the cab drivers facecard. The driver exited the
vehicle in an attempt to retrieve his property and was subsequently punched in
the face. A second individual jumped into the taxi and drove away.

Members of the 5th District immediately arrived to assist and were able to stop
both individuals a short distance away. Both suspects were placed under arrest
for the assault and theft of the taxi cab.

This was a great job and an awesome display of teamwork by our police officers!

PLEASE NOTE:  The manner of theft needs your immediate attention.  At least three subjects were riding in a Sport Utility Vehicle in the 2200 Block of Newton Street, NE when they bumped the operator of late model Infinity from behind.  Both vehicles stopped to inspect the damage and while the operator of the Infinity was at the rear of the car, one of the suspects jumped into the Infinity and sped off.  The Infinity was just recovered in the 2900 block of 2nd Street, SE Washington, DC by Auto Theft Investigators from the Seventh Police District.

Should you get out of your car to inspect damage in a similar minor accident, get out to pump gas or leave your auto unattended to warm up in the mornings you expose yourself to being a victim.  PLEASE take your keys from the auto's ignition when you are not behind the wheel.

This is a very disturbing incident and we are glad that a swift arrest has been made. We greatly appreciate the due diligence of the officers involved. This area has been plagued by numerous senseless killings over the years and we do not want to go back to that time. How many times have the police responded to this location for a disturbance of any kind within the last year?

Hi folks - in case you missed it yesterday, Metro is holding a second public meeting on the future of the 80 bus, tonight, at Providence Hospital.  I'll copy their press release below.

If you're a rider of the 80, I would def. recommend attending as they are considering many substantial changes.  I'm also attaching scans of the proposals; Metro assured me they would be on-line today, but as of this morning I have yet to see them.  As the scans are in black and white, I'll try and give a brief explainer of each one.  There are currently about 5 proposals being batted around.  The one issue that seems to be decided is that the New York Ave underpass is going to stay.  But for the new proposals, they include: (1) an 80X bus, which would be a 16-stop express route that would run along the same route as it currently does - or extend south from Union Station to SW (more on that in option 5).  (2) They are also proposing a new 80-Shuttle line, which would go from Brookland Station through Washington Hospital Center, down First, NW, east on Bryant to North Cap, and then down to New York Ave, and into Noma (1st Street, NE - connecting Bloomingdale to the Harris Teeter)  It would also terminate at Union Station.  (3) They are also looking at ending the 80 bus at McPherson rather than the Kennedy Center and re-routing the D6 to hit the Kennedy Center instead of going through Dupont/Georgetown.  (4) Having the 80 stop at Union Station (would run from Union Station to Fort Totten only).  (5) and finally - and the one I find most intriguing is making the 80 go from Fort Totten to Federal Center SW.  This would create a new connection from Union Station to SW, which doesn't currently exist.  I thought this was a great idea though I suggested they should run it instead to L'Enfant instead of Federal Center as there is a high demand for transfers to the Green/Yellow lines as evidenced by the current Gallery Place stop.

Metro announces second round of public meetings for Metrobus Route 80 study
Customers can give feedback on possible service improvements for North Capitol Street Line
Metro and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced the second round of public meetings to hear input from riders and community members regarding potential changes to Metrobus Route 80 service, known as the North Capitol Street Line.

Metro and DDOT working together on a comprehensive study of  Route 80 service. The two public meetings announced today follow two open houses and a focus group in late 2012, in which the project team heard ideas from the public about service improvements along the corridor.

The two public meetings will take place as follows:

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 -- 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Phoenix Park Hotel
520 North Capitol Street NW (across from Union Station at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue, North Capitol and F streets)
Washington, DC

Thursday, February 7, 2013 -- 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Providence Hospital Ross Auditorium
1150 Varnum Street NE
Washington, DC

Both meeting locations are located on Metrobus Route 80 and open to all members of the public; no advance registration is required. Participants may arrive any time between the start and end time of each meeting.  The meetings will not feature a formal presentation. Instead, participants will be able to speak individually with the project team about service improvements that Metro is considering for the North Capitol Street Line.

Metro and DDOT will use the feedback from participants to complete the analysis of Route 80 and create draft recommendations. In spring 2013, after a final round of public input, the recommendations for improvements will be finalized and presented to the public and the Metro Board for consideration in mid-2013.

A Spanish translator and visual materials in Spanish will be available at the public meetings.
Metrobus Route 80 runs from Fort Totten Metrorail Station in Northeast DC down South Dakota Avenue and 12th Street NE to Michigan Avenue and North Capitol Street. At Union Station, the route heads west along Massachusetts Avenue, H Street, and K Street NW. Finally, the route goes through Foggy Bottom along 18th and 19th Streets and Virginia Avenue before terminating at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Route 80 currently carries around 7,500 passengers on an average weekday, one of the largest riderships in the Metrobus system.

The North Capitol Street Line Study is the latest in a series of comprehensive evaluations of Metrobus “Priority Corridors." Metro and its partner agencies in the Washington metropolitan region have been studying service and operations on the Metrobus network’s busiest lines since 2006, and making gradual improvements that include restructured routes, limited-stop services, and other enhancements.

Questions (off hours, of course)... Are there any MPD patrol cars in this video -- and where (by time indicator).

Is that a MPD (gray/blue shirt) footman crossing RI Avenue at exactly

I have noticed your officers chasing parkers out of the fire lane and
handicapped spots/zones in the Home Depot parking lot from time to time, and I
do appreciate that, but if you can give anyone else over to this duty,
particularly during rush hour, it would be much appreciated. This morning, I
got into a scuffle with a "contractor" who almost hit me while I was walking
across the fire lane. He seemed to think that his right to drive and park in
the fire lane, without looking for pedestrians, trumped my right to safely walk
across it. Beyond this guy, I am regularly confronted with people parked in
such a way that I must walk out into traffic to cross in front of the Home Depot
or Giant. I have asked DPW for enforcement, but it seems the only thing that is
effective is a parked cruiser or police enforcement of fire lane and handicapped
spot/zone enforcement. I hate to ask for this, as the stores should be policing
this on their own, but, after nearly being mowed down by a large truck and then
having the driver try to physically engage me over it this morning, police
intervention seems the only effective solution. Yes, I have tried to bring this
up to the management of the stores and even their corporate parents, and have
gotten no results. If there are no police present at these locations, it's a
car "free for all," yet even a single cruiser results in clear lanes where I can
walk, traffic can flow, and emergency vehicles can respond.

Yes!! This is great news.    It's nothing like community partners working to help residents to reclaim the calm we deserve.

Good day Dachare: Thank you for taking time out of your day to apprise MPD of
your unfortunate event at the Home Depot parking lot and to show your
appreciation for the efforts you see of our officers.
As part of the plan to address crime and disorder in and around the Home Depot
parking lot/Brentwood Metro station, there will be officers assigned
specifically to those areas, which will extend well into the evening hours.

As your situation is unfortunate and can create an undesireable event,
["scuffling" with a motorist] the bottom line is you want to go about your day
in the same condition you were in when you began. With that being said, refrain
at all cost any type of confrontation with a scofflaw. Gather as much physical
information you can on him/her, to include clothing, vehicle, height, weight and
direction of travel. Once you have the information, you can reach out to MPD for
us to investigate.

the fire lane, without looking for pedestrians, trumped my right to safely walk

Good day Dachare: Thank you for taking time out of your day to apprise MPD of your unfortunate event at the Home Depot parking lot and to show your appreciation for the efforts you see of our officers.
As part of the plan to address crime and disorder in and around the Home Depot parking lot/Brentwood Metro station, there will be officers assigned specifically to those areas, which will extend well into the evening hours.

As your situation is unfortunate and can create an undesireable event, ["scuffling" with a motorist] the bottom line is you want to go about your day in the same condition you were in when you began. With that being said, refrain at all cost any type of confrontation with a scofflaw. Gather as much physical information you can on him/her, to include clothing, vehicle, height, weight and direction of travel. Once you have the information, you can reach out to MPD for us to investigate.
