Micro-Modular-Rail-Roading is a list for sharing information on custom, home modular layout approaches in all scales. If you are interested in the benefits of the modular approach to layout building, but do not intend to use your modules as part of a club layout, then topics on this list may be of interest to you. Home modular approaches may be smaller and require less ridgidity (both in standards compliance and construction) than traditional approaches. Alternate approaches include shelf type modules (that may be supported on standard shelf brackets) and "table-top" modules that are designed to rest on folding tables. This list will focus on materials, construction techniques, wiring/interface approaches, scenery construction and any other topic of interest to those developing and building custom module systems.
Note: anyone interested in adopting an existing modular standard is encouraged to review other lists focused on established club approaches.
Typical areas of variance from existing standards may include; a) smaller code rail, b) smaller modules (example: 12" wide), c) smaller track separations, d) tighter interface/alignment standards and e) more delicate construction/scenery techniques (shelves, foam, etc.). It is not the intent of this list to challenge existing standards; only to support furtherance of the modular approach for unique, private home layouts.
