Description

This e-SIG is for members (and friends) of MENSA who freely admit to being atheists (or something close to it--we do have a few who call themselves "agnostics") and wish to share their ideas and experiences with other Mensan atheists.

When did you first know you were an atheist? Which happened first -- you knew you were smart, or you knew you didn't believe in that god stuff? Do you think the two are related? Have you ever "confronted authorities" (e.g., public school boards, elected officials) over separation of church and state issues? How do you deal with friends and family who are believers?

Do you see any hope that humans will someday give up religion and the notion of supernatural beings? Do you think we're genetically hardwired to believe in gods? Why do some of us not have the god gene, and are we defective or gifted in that way?

This e-SIG is recognized by its host national group, American Mensa, Ltd. (AML), and may soon be recognized as an International SIG. Messages posted to this list represent the opinions of individual senders, and not of Mensa, American or International, which has no opinions. Neither Mensa nor the e-SIG Coordinator (list owner) is responsible for individual message content. While this e-SIG encourages its members to investigate and/or participate in outside resources, neither the e-SIG nor Mensa is affiliated with any other group(s).

Please note that all new members will have their first messages moderated, due to the urge by believers to proselytize. Once you post and we see that you're an actual non-believer, the moderating will be removed and you will be free to post at will.
