Description

LutheransLookingEast is a resource for current and former Lutherans who may simply be curious about the 2nd largest group of Christians in the world or who may be considering conversion to Orthodox Christianity. Orthodox converts from Lutheranism are available to provide answers to honest questions about Orthodox Christianity.

Participants must accurately represent the theology and practice of Lutheranism and Orthodoxy, but may not use this group to score Lutheran vs. Orthodox debating points; challenging questions seeking to better understand Orthodoxy are welcome. Good will and charity is required. The Moderator will warn, moderate and/or remove participants not complying with these guidelines.

For the purposes of this list, "Lutheran" will be a self-defining term, i.e., not defined solely as the teachings of either the Book of Concord or a given Lutheran organization (ELCA, LCMS, WELS, LWF). "Orthodox" will be defined as the common Christian faith shared by those in communion with the canonical, Orthodox churches and jurisdictions of Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, Russia, Romania, Greece, Georgia, et al.

Orthodox group members are encouraged to make themselves available off-list to inquirers to discuss what may be personal and/or sensitive questions. Group participants may be allowed to post pseudonymously with the consent of a Moderator.

Hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle - 2 Thessalonians 2:15

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. - Philippians 2:12

The Lord did nothing without the Father, ...so neither do ye anything without the bishop and presbyters. - St. Ignatius of Antioch (+110), "Epistle to the Magnesians", 7

For He was made man that we might be made God. - St. Athanasius the Great (+373), "On the Incarnation of the Word", 54:3
