The Louisiana Hiking Club was organized to meet the needs of Louisiana backpackers and hikers. Its goals are:

* to improve the knowledge of Louisiana hikers and backpackers by offering classes, seminars, and other educational resources.
* to foster communication between hikers
* to maintain existing trails and establish new ones
* to plan trips
* to compile accurate cartographic and naturalist guides for Louisiana trails
