Description
We are Lotus and Lily: a Buddhist-Christian study and practice group.
When we gather we meditate, chant, pray, and study how to practice Christianity and Buddhism in a supportive setting. Sensing a complementary relationship between the two religions’ contemplative and wisdom traditions, our explorations are informed by both.
Lotus and Lily is a self-organizing group of practitioners that is independent of any specific church or religious affiliation; our approach to both Buddhism and Christianity is ecumenical and without sectarian alliances.
Our members have varying degrees of knowledge and experience with religions and spiritual practice. In many cases we continue to maintain a spiritual practice and/or involvement in another religious community (e.g., a Buddhist sangha or Christian church). But we are glad for the unique and important mutual support and communal spiritual practice that Lotus and Lily provides us.
Our group meets in Seattle, Washington, every 2nd & 4th Sunday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Seattle First Baptist Church (1111 Harvard Ave, Seattle). See "Photos" for a map with the meeting location.) We've been meeting semi-monthly since 2003.
The church (recognizable by its tall copper steeple) is in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood, just 1 block southwest from the intersection of Broadway and E. Union Street. You can park for free in the Church's lot bordering its west side. We meet in Hintz Chapel, located on the church's main floor, facing the sanctuary.
You are welcome to attend our group. If you're coming for the first time, please give us a call ahead of time so that we can make sure to keep the church's door open for you. Contact John Malcomson at jmalcomson@yahoo.com or 206-284-9489.
