I'm using Berol Prismacolor pencils, a lot of them. I used warm gray shades
for the hair/beard and bag strap, and cold gray shades for the clothes, so
that the clothes would be distinguishable from the hair. I thought hobbit
hair was a nightmare, then I spent about 6 hours on Gandalf. No wonder I
don't want to do Gimli.

No, I drew it - but included the dirty fingernails that were in the photo!

Hey everyone...I finally made it over here! (So Chuck and Gonzai,
you can stop bugging me already!) For those of you who don't
know me, my name's Lauren Elyse (ignore my Yahoo ID please),
but you can call me LE. I see familiar names here already, so it
looks like I'm in good company.
I do mostly black-and-white portraits, although I've begun to
experiment with color lately. I recently got brave and entered four
drawings into the LOTR Fan Club Fan Art Contest. If you want to
see all of my work so far, it's at my Yahoo Photo Album at
http://photos.yahoo.com/rascalrulz. Look forward to seeing you
all around!
Cheers mates,
LE @-->---
P.S. GONZAI! Your Gandalf is spectacular! :o OMG it's absolutely
incredible! Beautiful, you drive me to tears sometimes...

Finally finished Gandalf last night (ack! hair! beard! ack ack!) and put it
up in the photo album. It's too big to fit on my scanner, so I had to do it
in pieces and reassemble it, and then the computer changed the names on half
the files. Not fun. Anyways, LMK what you think.
Gonzai
I just figured out how to post this file so that it goes to people
when they subscribe. Just so everyone is on equal footing, I'll post
it here for those who already are subscribed, not that I would ever
need to actually enforce them or anything of course :-)
Hello, and welcome to the Lord of the Rings FanArt mailing list. The
following is a list of the few rules we have here, mostly to keep
things convivial and keep the mean TOS people away.
1 You do not have to be an artist to post here. You just have to like
art. If you are not an artist, please participate with discussion,
but you won't be chased off if you don't.
2 Off topic postings are fine as long as you put OT in the subject
line.
3 `Pluggery' is fine too, as long as it isn't completely commercial,
ie, "check out my Ebay auction", etc. But feel totally free to let
everyone know about your web site, mailing list, art work, fan
fiction, whatever.
4 Due to the world being as it is, attachments cannot be sent
(viruses and all that.) If you have a web site, or have your work up
on a web site, post the URL. If you don't have a place to put your
work, go to the Yahoo! groups web site, go to Files or to Photos
(left side of the screen) and upload your pic. A notice is
automatically sent to everyone on the list that something's been
uploaded.
5 Computer art is considered art too, and because web sites require
creativity and graphic design, we'll call them art. Submitting web
sites for commentary and suggestions is fine.
6 Yahoo! prohibits commercial use of mailing lists. This means do not
discuss buying and selling of artwork on this list. All such
conversations MUST be taken to private e-mail.
7 No NC-17 artwork will be accepted here, either by URL or upload. We
have a variety of ages here, and I don't want Yahoo! labeling this
list as adult, so please don't do it.
8 ABSOLUTELY NO FLAMING. Constructive criticism is fine, even
encouraged, but there is to be no name-calling, meanness, or
otherwise unpleasant posting to the list.
Violations of rules 6, 7 & 8: First time, you get a warning. Second
time, you get the boot. I seriously doubt anybody will incur my wrath
in these areas, but please, don't try me.
That's it. Lecture over. Go share, discuss, etc.!

I dunno. XellPhill sent it to me to put on my site. I didn't draw it,
and I didn't ask. Maybe Aragorn dumped him?
The photo album is a really good idea.
I have to take a look at it later today, now I'm slightly too busy.
<< In other news, is it me or is bmg really getting nit-picky? >>
No, it's not just you. I've been wondering the same thing. First artwork, then
"things the characters would never say"! [both of which I think are LOTR
related, no matter how you look at it] It feels like the laid-back attitude in
the whole forum is dissappearing somewhere, anyway :(

http://www.lastwaltz.org
At Gabrielle's suggestion, I went to the FarPoint Convention here in
Baltimore last night. Since it's primarily a Trek thing, I went for the art
show (they are having an LotR panel today, but it conflicts with the Fanart
panel & I can't afford the fee for the whole day anyway). On both the Trek &
art show counts, I was a newbie and went for observational purposes. First
observation is that people should not be permitted to dress like Klingons and
sing in public, esp. not with a full PA system.
Other observations: Most of the art work there wasn't specific to a fandom, I
noticed. Most of it was completely original but not necessarily fannish, as
several people drew their pets, and about half of the work there was of
dragons. Some pieces were fabulous, most of them were all right. Much of what
was there was prints, something I'm scared of because of the copyright
implications, maybe that's why it was mostly original works. Of the works
that were fandom related, the best stuff was of characters from Andromeda and
Farscape as done by Nicole (who I happened to meet, it turned out we had a
mutual friend at the con, and I invited her to join this list). During the
hour I was in the gallery, I was subjected to standard idiocy too: the guy
stomping around complaining that there was pencil art in the gallery, because
'any moron can use a pencil'. Was seriously tempted to hand him one and
challenge him to do something with it other than clean his ears. Of course I
was more tempted to do something else with the pencil...
Anyway, has anyone else gone to conventions with fan art shows? What did you
see, how good was it, what kinds of work did they have there, etc.?
Gonzai
OK, I'll be the first to admit I have not spent much time over the last few
years investigating the possibilities of Yahoo. But I did discover the
wonders of the Photo Album today, and I inaugurated the group's photo album
with a few of my drawings. I think this would be a good place for posting
artwork for discussion since only people on the group would have access to
the pics, and we wouldn't have to deal with wonky web sites and such forth.
You can upload or view the Photos by going to the group page, then picking
'Photos' from the left hand menu.
In other news, is it me or is bmg really getting nit-picky? Now the "Things
the Characters Would Never Say" thread has been deemed not LotR related. What
the frell is LotR related? Just me griping.

<<LOL gonzai! how did you know i would see this post first!
i was drawn to it...hrmmm...>>
And PhoebeWiggles was scared off by it. I can still hear her screams in the
distance...
Gonzai
LOL gonzai! how did you know i would see this post first!
i was drawn to it...hrmmm...
anyway yes...i have a fan art section in the hobbitself site.
If you want your own art page just like Gonzai here...tell me! and
i'll add one for you!
my site addy could most likely be found on my profile page. i
think.
~tookli :D
Yeah, I know it's very small. I can hardly see it myself!
I'm going to change it as soon as I can [probably this weekend]. And also change
it from .jpg to some other format - .jpg smudges the text and makes it even more
difficult to read.
Thanks for the comments :)

One suggestion, Hanna (and it probably sounds familiar to my lament about
Devious' site) - the listing of the site contents is very small and hard to see.
Maybe make it a bit larger, with a bit more contrast?

And since Hanna and Gabrielle reminded me, just wanted to say:
Pluggery is perfectly acceptable here! Let everybody know about your lists, web
sites, art work, etc. (Yes, Tookli, that's an open invite!)
Gonzai
thanks for the welcome, much appreciated :)

<< And Hanna, if you're a BtVS person - we'll get along just great ;-) >>
My friends usually refer to me as *the* BtVS person :D
Enjoyed the cover for Gabrielle's story very much.
And now more on topic: as some of you might know, I've got a Billy Boyd fanlist.
I'm trying to build a nice extras section [so far there's nothing ..], so if
anyone wants to have their Billy art there, I'll be very happy to post it.
Everything's welcome: handmade artwork as well as computer wallpapers, collages,
icons -- whatever you can think of.
Also accepting poetry, odes, songs.. :D
And last but not least: hello Yasmin :)

Hello,
I'm Gabrielle. I met our listmom when I wanted someone to do a cover
for my Doyle zine. Someone reccommended her and told me where to
find a drawing she'd done. It was great. So I wrote her and it turned
out she lived not far away. Turns out we both liked hockey, too! So
we became good friends.
If you want to see the cover she did for me:
www.stormpages.com/gabrielle/doyle/stories/close.html
I've been really enjoying her LOTR artwork lately. I've got Legolas
hanging in my cubicle at work!
Me, I draw, occassionally. But I don't do fan art. Mainly because
I can't draw people. I did do a Doyle pic once but his head turned
out a bit too small. His jacket, however, I'm very proud of!

I'd much rather be writing!

In a message dated 02-02-12 16:11:13 EST, you write:
<< But I believe this'll be a fun mailing list anyway. It should be if all
the bb.net artwork loonies join ;) >>
I invited enough of 'em! And some from the Dominic Monaghan bb too. This
could become interesting...
And Hanna, if you're a BtVS person - we'll get along just great ;-)
Gonzai
It's actually quite easy to be a nice listmom. I should know, I've run the only
Finnish BtVS mailing list for 3 years and people seem to like me still :) Just
don't be mean to anyone and you'll be fine.
But I believe this'll be a fun mailing list anyway. It should be if all the
bb.net artwork loonies join ;)
This whole e-mail is completely off topic but I'm extremely bored! Maybe I
should try drawing again.. hmm.. hmm.. or then I'll just Scribble a little. And
mention this list too, maybe we'll get some new members because of it. It's
funny how many people actually read my diary. Oh well..

Hey
It's Hanna aka BelladonnaB here [devoted art fan but rarely seen artist ;)].
I just joined the list, I haven't even checked who else is here yet. I just
announcing my presence. Or something..
Suddenly I feel very silly. See you all later.
