Description

The Lost Religion of Jesus (LROJ) are a Christian anarchist online community. Some of their core beliefs and practices include:

  • Absolute nonviolence and nonresistance. They interpret "Thou shalt not kill" literally. They believe that many of Jesus' practices and teachings are being ignored, including this key principle. Notable Christian pacifists include Francis of Assisi, Leo Tolstoy and Ben Salmon.
  • A belief that religion is about listening to one's own soul and God's gentle guidance, not doctrines.
  • An understanding that a church is people not temples, ministers or shrines. They have no place of worship or internal hierarchy.
  • Many in the community are either semi-vegetarian, vegetarian or vegan for nutritional, ethical or simple living reasons. Some also claim spiritual awareness and experiences are greatly enhanced on such diets.
  • A belief that many great spiritually guided men have lived before them, including Abraham, Moses, John the Baptist, Jesus of Nazareth and Muhammad. They are aware that everyone has the ability to feel God's guidance. They are multi-faith, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic.
  • LROJ neither support the state (because it only exists on the basis of physical force) nor rely upon the institutions derived from it, such as the police, law courts and army. They put their trust in God, rather than any earthly authority.
  • LROJ believe in seeking truth, personal freedom of choice and learning from one's own mistakes.
