Hi,
This is to let you know that 24 enlargeable photos of the Lone Star Collectors'
Exhibition are now viewable on the following website link:
http://www.lone-star-diecast-bk.com/OpenDay.html
Any constructive comments concerning the pictures and/or the Exhibition itself
are welcomed. The Lone Star website has its own free "Forum" or your remarks can
be posted via the Yahoo e-group.
A note for your diary - Next year's event will also be held at Whitewebbs Museum
of Transport, Crews Hill, ENFIELD, Middlesex (U.K.) on Sunday, 26th September.
Full details can be found of the website. All are welcome.
Geoff Ambridge (ex-Lone Star Products Ltd./D.C.M.T.)
To whom it may concern:
A summarized Inventory of Lone Star/DCMT artefacts has now been published on the
Lone Star website, as follows:
http://www.lone-star-diecast-bk.com/MillGreenMuseum.html
In brief the list includes toys, models, documents, catalogues, technical
drawings, etc.

It doesn't seem almost a year ago that many of us were attending, and exhibiting
at, 'Whitewebbs Museum of Transport', Whitewebbs Road, Crews Hill, ENFIELD,
Middlesex (north London, U.K.) http://www.whitewebbsmuseum.co.uk
This is to give you, hopefully, ample notice of the forthcoming event to enable
you to make plans so that you and your friends, too, can give us the pleasure of
your presence at this year's Show. There is only ONE Show each year and ONLY
takes place at THIS venue. If you happen to miss this opportunity to pay us a
visit on the day, there'll be quite a wait until the next chance to enjoy this
fantastic event. So, please try to make it if you can - you'll be glad you made
the effort!
Fuller details about the exhibition can be found at:
(*) http://www.lone-star-diecast-bk.com/whitewebbs.html
Scroll down the "Whitewebbs" page for a road map/diagram of north Enfield &
District (nearest Train Station: Crews Hill) showing the location of 'Whitewebbs
Museum of Transport' (not to be confused with Whitewebbs House (Stately Home)
situated closeby)
Potential 'new' exhibitors of L.S. items, wishing to book a stall for the day
(27th), should contact our Event Co-ordinator, Clive Gehle, at e-mail address:
clivegehle@... ..or 'phone Mobile 07930 312531 to assure themselves of
a reserved pitch with table(s).
Anyone planning to run 'Treble-O-Lectric' model trains should advise Clive, in
advance, that they need to be close to a 13 amp power socket. The onus is on the
train layout exhibitor to state this at the time of making a table reservation
to avoid disappointment on the day.
Incidentally, the Lone Star *website has now had a Forum (Discussion Group)
installed for your use and for exchange of ideas; L.S. items Wanted or For Sale.
No obligation nor any cost to you to participate.

Hi, Please click the "Photos" link and you'll find two black and white photos

Hi all,
Apologies for a spelling error in a message recently posted on this topic.
The town where Martin Doubleday, the producer/manufacturer of the said drive
bands, lives is "Chelmsford" (not 'Chemsford') as it happened to be accidentally
typed. It is, however, most probable that any envelope addressed to Martin
Doubleday at the erroneous 'Chemsford', address will still arrive at
"Chelmsford, Essex" since the post-code given was the correct one thus ensuring
that letters for Martin reach their intended destination.

However, he has no Internet access (as far as I know) but I understand that his brother will accept messages on Martin's behalf. The former can be contacted on e-mail:

Any packs of original replacement bands would have dried up many, many years ago. An envelope of the original replacement bands are nice to have as a collectible.

Hi all,
The "Lone Star Products Hatfield" e-group was specially set up to attract
enquiries from ex-Lone Star factory employees who had been employed at either
Hatfield or nearby Welham Green, Hertfordshire, U.K. In this task, it was
singularly unsuccessful and did not have the desired impact. As a consequence,
that e-group will be closed down permanently by the end of this month (June).
It is therefore asked that the limited number of members of that group could
please transfer to the following more widely used e-group, if they are not
already members of it:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lonestar_bumper_book_online
Following on from this advice, the onus is on the individual member to make the
necessary change of group if they agreeable to do so. No further reminders will
be sent.
The "Treble-0-Gauge" e-group based in New Zealand (specializing in Lone Star's
model trains) is notified herewith of the planned closure of
"Lonestarproducts_Hatfield" e-group, purely as a matter of courtesy to them but
they are not otherwise affected by the decision.

Firstly thanks to Clive for helping out with my wants list. I am now keen to buy
a couple of points from the grey 9mm plastic track. Unboxed used condition is
fine. Instant payment by Paypal will be made including postage costs.
Please contact me if you can help.
Many thanks
Paul
Hello,
My first wants list for Lone Star railway items is very simple and basic. I am
happy to pay the going rate for reasonable condition items as I am not looking
for mint items or boxes - these bits are to add the finishing touches to a
working layout.
6 lighting poles for the station platforms (all the same colour don't mind which
colour)
A quantity of the grey (not blue) coloured plastic 9mm track approx 20 straights
20 curves and a couple of points should be fine. This does not need to be mint
or new.
One of the smallest height bridge pillars, can be playworn.
Can pay immediately by Paypal. Please contact paulwooz@... if you are able
to help.
As my collection is a mix of the original Locos items and the later OOO Trains
push along items I am trying to create a single display layout that combines
both types of track on a single board. In effect two track layouts that do not
join but sit around each other.
Thanks for your help
Paul
Hi Paul,
welcome to the group, just to say that I cannot recommend Donald's guide too highly - it really is a must for anyone starting collecting OOO.
I have an amount for sale at present, including some rarer items, and am also amenable to "swops"
Contact me off list clivegehle@... if you would like a list or have any specific requests.

I am a new collector of the Lone Star Locos push along models and am amazed at the variety of different colours, couplings and styles of the various models. Web searches only turn up very rough or incomplete listings of the Locos inventory. Do any collectors have a list of the different items and colours that they would be prepared to share with me.
Many thanks
Paul
PS The Locos rangs seems remarkably good value as a vintage toy collectable - I presume this is beacause it was produced in such large numbers rather than that no one collects it - is that right?
There are plenty of collectors out there and the range has reasonably easy to collect without breaking the bank, apart from the rarer items that have tended to make me sweat when writing the cheques!
There are various lists describing the range, but the "Bible" for collectors is the "Lone Star Model Train Reference Guide", compiled by Donald Troost. It comes in three volumes and is very reasonably priced (approx. £35 - but well worth it.) It will inform you of 99.9% all the variations throughout the range of Lone Star Locos, Treble O Lectric, and Treble O Trains.
I also suggest a visit to the Lone Star Collectors Day held each year at Whitewebbs Museum of Transport, Whitewebbs Road, Enfield. There you will meet fellow collectors, be able to pick up a bargain or two, and seeing as you're a new collector, see just how many variations there are!
You can attempt to contact Donald through the e-mail address below
Best wishes in your collecting, it is gradually getting rarer on the toy train fair scene, but I, as well as other collectors can put you in touch with folks who sell it.

'000' gauge electric motor drive bands can be obtained from: Martin Doubleday, 33 Hillary Close, Chelmsford, Essex, CM7 5RR, (U.K.). You'll need to write to him as he ..does not.., as far as I'm aware, have access to the Internet. Although you may be able to obtain his telephone number via a directory enquiry, please be aware of the time difference (approx. 6-7 hrs ahead of U.K. if 'phoning from the United States or Canada. You can appreciate that no-one likes to be awoken by a long-distance telephone call in the middle of the night or small hours of the morning. I'm afraid to say that I can't help you with regard to the wheels and axles. You could possibly try e-mailing: rogercoxlonestar66@... ....if Roger can't help you, himself, he will probably be able to refer you to someone who can.

Hi Doug,
The following is quoted from "The Bumper Book of 'Lone Star' Diecast
Models and Toys 1948-88" (ISBN: 0-9539058-0-2):
"[1361] Detective Spudmatic, 4-in-1, shoots potato pellets, corks,
caps and water, 1965-85 inclusive. Available in black, Red, Green and
Blue finishes. The word "Detective" dropped from title, re-numbered
[1363] in 1986-87. Re-numbered [1020] in 1988.
[1159] Spud Water Gun, shoots potato pellets/water, 1957, 1964-74
inclusive. Improvement on earlier single-shot water pistol of similar
design."
To be able to distinguish between the two types of pistol, the hand
grip of the 'Spudmatic' has straight lines and no curves in its
design, whereas the 'Spud Water Gun' has curved lines in the design
of its hand grip. I hope that you find this information useful.
The book may be ordered at any leading bookstore, world-wide, simply
by quoting the International Book Identity Number (ISBN above) when
placing the order. The retail cost: £19.50 plus Postage and Packing.

Hi there,
I have been gathering all the photos pertaining to Lone Star's factories and
former staff, dating back to 1946, and put them in one place rather than have
them kept in a variety of places. The task has not been completed yet but it is
well under way. More pictures are continually being added.
The photos can be viewed and enlarged individually or they can be viewed as a
"Slide Show" eventually winding back to the starting point. There is no charge
to view them and copies, if required, can be obtained by following the simple
instructions on the Home page of the 'photobucket' site.
The website is: http://www.photobucket.com/
My album is on: http://s403.photobucket.com/albums/pp113/DCMTLonestar/
Any feedback or constructive criticism would be very welcome. Such photos that
are 'monochrome' have been monochrome pictures from the day they were taken.
[Referring to the "Bumper Book of Lone Star", this is for the rather misguided
book customer who once asked me - Why aren't all the pictures in colour?]
Anyway, I hope that you enjoy them and tell your friends and former colleagues
on which website URL they can be found.
Please feel free to log-on and peruse the selection.
Best wishes,
Geoff Ambridge (ex-Lone Star Products Ltd./D.C.M.T. Ltd)

Hi Chris,
Thank you for your enquiry. I can tell you that the Metallions that you have
were produced between 1972-74 inclusive. There were 6 different famous/notorious
Cowboys and 6 notorious Red Indians (native Americans). In 1973-74, Lone Star
brought out 6 Arthurian Knights.
The Cowboy figures that you ..don't.. have are: Bat Masterson; Wyatt Earp and
Billy the Kid and the two absent Red Indian figures are: Red Cloud and Black
Hawk. The 6 Medieval Knights were: King Arthur, Sir Galahad, Sir Lancelot, Sir
Gareth, Sir Bedivere and Sir Percivale although you're probably not interested
in collecting these.
I'm passing your enquiry on to the "Bumper Book Online" E-Forum where you may
find a member wishing to purchase your Metallion figures. The Forum doesn't cost
you anything to join nor does it place you under any obligation to purchase
anything. It's just a helpful discussion group which provides a vast pool of
experience offered by like-minded people.
Failing this, there is an annual Lone Star Collector's Exhibition held on Sunday
27th Sept. at Whitewebbs Museum of Transport, near Enfield, Middlesex, where you
could sell your Metallions if you so wish. Fuller details mentioned on the
website URL below.
Good luck!

Hello from the US,
My name is Jeff, and I am hoping someone on this list may be able to
help me. I have some questions about the Lone Star Comics that
featured Steve Larrabee.
Specifically I am trying to determine where two Steve Larrabee stories
were published. The first is called "Prairie Fire", and the second is
called "Steve Larrabee in the Secret City". Unfortunately I can find
very little info on the comics anywhere on line.
If anyone can offer any help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jeff J.
