I don't know Bob...From what I was told, the school house was going to be in a
new building once its completed; right now it is running out of a modular
building. I am out of town till next weekend, so I'll take a drive around and
see what was being built when I get home. I might have confused myself with the
new C-17 training facility. I know all the FTD stuff is in the process of
converting to M model stuff; they recently got a simulator for it and just
finished the building and placement of the new engine and pylon for engine
training. I would think that since they are going to be the school house for M
models, that eventually they will get built. Since Travis won't see an M model
until 2013, They have plenty of time yet.
9005 is pending transfer to Memphis. I think they are waiting until March after
they retire a jet (0465?) and put another jet into storage(assuming 9010). That
and that is when 0448 is supposed to be done with AMP mod; although I doubt it
since they are dragging their feet there. Stuff appears to be in limbo with the
announcement of the rest of the A model fleet being retired. I believe the
announcement put alot of heat on AMARG to get ready for a crapton of aircraft;
so they are going to have to get on the ball and this excess storage thing is
going to have to wind to a close this year.
I would like to note that I was told that 0467 and 0454 were paperwork
transferred to Wright-Patt. So they have 8211, 9003, 0448*, 0454 and 0467
assigned to them; none are possessed however. As stated before, 0448 is going
to Lackland, but the official transfer won't happen till after 9005 leaves.
Cheers,
Silas

from the beginning. Â So it makes no sense why they would of cancelled the
contract. Â Most of the FTD training stuff is swapped over to M model stuff now
here. Â Maybe they are going to use those facilities?

only reason why they really got them in the first place was because the depot
was across the way, and Kelly got the worst jets in the fleet for the most part.
Lackland has a bad reputation for breaking all the time overseas...Memphis
does the same thing, Its like 10 times more noticable with those two units.
Thats why the A models are getting the ax...the reputation and money that just
keeps going into them is just not worth it anymore. Â So as much of a C-5 fan I
am...I'm understanding where they are coming from. Â I wish they'd RERP 8 of the
A models and make a fleet of 60 jets instead of 52...but I guess that'll never
happen.

the units have gotten a 9th BAI jet.

the first ones to go are the ones coming due for PDM, so 8219, 8220, 8223 are
most likely to be part of the 5. In FY14, only 2 of the Lackland birds will be
retired, as the focus starts on Martinsburg. In FY15, 3 C-5A AMPs will retire,
and the last remaining 6 aircraft will retire in FY16. In return, which has
alot of people angry, including myself, they will get 8 C-5M Super Galaxies from
Westover.

Westover would lose 2. Dover shouldn't lose any because they are the school
house for C-5M pilots. Lackland will shut down their school house in FY15.
