Description

This site will primarily discuss any and all items regarding Central High School and its impact on and from feeder schools and the Sioux City community at large, history, interesting issues, present and future activities of alumni and families, etc. It will explore the meaning of social and personal memory, nostalgia, and yesterday's impact on the present and future. Memoirs, journals, literature studies, and archetypal myths come into play at times. But, always there is the primacy of the interchange among the members, who do not mind some civil controversy from time to time. Attempts will be made to document for archival purposes and link to the S.C. History Museum through oral and written history, and to the Central Castle website as key collaborators. Although Central does not exist as a physical operating high school any more, it exists in the minds of those remaining from 1972/4 and before. COHA, the association for preserving Central, has recently hosted a first-time all-CHS reunion and it was very successful and hopefully, there will be persons who will be inspired by that gathering to join them as well as this site. Persons who only want 'pablum' served will not find it here always. We urge other alternatives. This is a contemporary site that also respects all views if given in considerate and civil ways. It supports the high school values that together with family values helped make us who we are, yet questioning sociologically what was happening in the context of our community in place and time and re-interpreting history as needed. Everyone will hopefully get different satisfaction from the inter-active experience. It will not serve as a personal blog for anyone, but rather the group's common interest in our roots and an occasional toot for what are achieving today! It should be a supportive, bonding, fun, learning experience, finding new kindred spirits, strengthening our friendships and respect for each other's past and present.
