We are a select group of critical readers that enjoy the challenge of reading works which have demonstrated their qualities over several generations of readers.

This group is a little different from most other Yahoo reading groups. We're looking to dig a little deeper into an author's work or into a key literary theme. Therefore we will have a topic or an author and read four or five titles over a 12 week period. With a large enough group sharing we may read even more. There's no rule that everyone reads every book, only that if you read a book then you should openly share your experiences with the other group members and be willing to field questions and lead discussions.

Each quarter we will start a new author or theme to read and discuss. There is no obligation to continue with the group from quarter to quarter. Reading of the selected core titles will start immediately as will any elective reading. Discussion will also start immediately and although courtesy should avoid spoilers, it is not always reasonable to hold back when discussing the works.

The 4th quarter of 2009 will be spent reading a selection of works by Marguerite Duras. Specifically we will read

12-01 The North Chinese Lovert
12-16 Hiroshima Mon Amour
