Description

This is a place for big tent libertarians to discuss strategy.

The Libertarian Reform Caucus is a coalition of freedom lovers who want to have an effective libertarian party, one which is designed to win elections now in order to turn the tide from ever increasing statism to more liberty.

The current Libertarian Party does not meet this standard. It's platform is far too radical to allow significant electoral victory in the U.S.; there are organizational matters that need to be fixed; and strategy needs to be improved.

The changes at Portland was a good first step toward addressing these issues, though we need to be prepared for the 2008 and 2010 conventions.

The current LP Platform is in dire need of continued reform. The LRC Statement of Purpose should be considered in deliberation with Platform format, scope, and size; it should also be that upon which all planks are based:

1. The platform should propose a realistic vision for the next few years, as opposed to an idealistic vision of a libertarian future. The public expects a party platform to show what a party's candidates intend to do during the next term of office. If the party wants a long term vision statement, it should be in a separate document labeled as such.

2. The platform should unite libertarians instead of dividing them. Where libertarians disagree, the platform should be silent. The party should be a tool for all libertarians.

3. The platform should be based on the realization that there are other important values in addition to the non-initiation of force. Freedom is extremely valuable, but it is not the only value.

4. The platform should be viewed as a marketing document, not a litmus test.  It should be written to attract libertarians and libertarian-leaners to vote Libertarian and to join the LP.

I knew Ron was pro-life but I never pressed him on that issue.  At that time, it was a minor point.  And, I think Ron would agree with me that the pro-life

Re: Ron Paul - Honor under pressure
alt two, great story! Ron also happens to be pro-life.  I do wonder whether they'd admire integrity if a candidate said I don't support banning Internet porn

I referred to this in a previous post and I think it should be remembered by folks who are not me. In the primary between ex-Democrat Greg Laughlin and Ron

First, welcome to the LP! Robert Capozzi was trying to make the point that there is not a uniformity of opinion within the LP. Like every party, we have some
