ORLANDO BLOOM is Legolas, whose name literally means "green leaf", is the son of Thranduil, Lord of the Elves of Mirkwood, the greatest of the forests in Middle Earth. He is a Gray-Elf, or Sindarin, descended from the Teleri line, the Third and greatest of the three Elf kindreds. He is also referred to as a Silvan Elf denoting "woodland".

Sent as a messenger to Elrond, Lord of Rivendell, he was present at the Council of Elrond where the fate of the One Ring was determined. It was decided that The Ring must be destroyed by being cast into the fires of Orodruin (Mount Doom) from whence it was forged. It was here that Legolas became a member of The Fellowship of the Ring as the representative of the Elves on the Quest.
