We are a group of Unitarian Universalists whose spiritual quest has led us to believe there is something deeply wrong with the United States. We see our nation obsessed with fighting more costly and bloody wars around the world. At the same time the social safety net designed to protect us from poverty and homelessness has been shredded. Prisoners are locked up without any chance of parole in institutions designed to break their spirits, if not entirely drive them mad. Our schools have never been adequately funded. Too many poor and ignorant people are serving out their last days on death row due to incompetent defense, a biased legal system and a public demand for vengeance. We seek to restore the promise of the United States embodied in the statement "with liberty and justice for all."

We are proud to proclaim that we stand politically left of center. For us, compassionate conservative is an oxymoron. True compassion is best achieved by working in congregations, coalitions and community based activity. We will apply the lessons we have uncovered about our communities with others in hopes that they may learn with us.
