Hello to all those who are into vegetable and flower gardening, etc., and who live at, above or below latitude 48 around the world. This is a site dedicated to gardening in the microclimes, maritimes, mountains, plains that share the low light conditions that prevail at the 48th parallel and north/south to the poles. We face unique climates and truncated growing seasons thanks to rain, cold, low light and just plain cussed growing conditions. But here we will discuss creating year round gardens that will extend our budgets and expand our skills making our friends drool every time we leave a bag of zucchini on their doorstep, ring the bell and RUN. We will discuss all methods of gardening, varieties that stand up to our particular climates and just about anything that happens to come up in connection to life, the universe and everything. We will try to keep the topic to gardening... really... I promise.

I, your moderator, live on the coast about 60 miles south of the Canada border in the rain soaked state of Washington. Our maritime climate, zone 8, tends towards cold rain, dark days and down right damp conditions most of the year... except for 3 weeks in august every other year. I have a 700 square foot mounded bed garden modeled on Peter Chan's system and am just starting out this year after an 8 year hiatus.
