I anticipate I'll be done with my reorganizing and procedure manual
writing project for my current employer by summer.
Then I'll be on to my next challenge. Which will be... what? Don't
know yet. That's why I'm letting all of you know I'll be in the
market for a new and exciting organizational consultant opportunity
within the year.
My great strength is in organizing. To drop into a chaotic
situation and create order, to help develop something totally new,
or to bring an existing business or agency to a new and more
efficient level. This is why I'm drawn to new startups, companies
in the midst of mergers and reorganizations, agencies applying for
government certifications, and enterpreneurship.
This is why, in addition to the things listed on my resume, I have
also been appointed leader of my local religious group, was
conductor of SageWomen Drum Circle last year, and was for several
years a member of the Nevada Mental Health Advisory Board.
And just what is on my resume? Why, I'm glad you asked... (tee hee
hee) I just uploaded it on this site.
The complete Noble Northern Spirit mystery is now in the Files

Hi Bethie, good to hear from you, I don't know why the two previous
replies I've tried to post didn't show up on the forum, the spammers
don't seem to have any trouble posting, I'm constantly deleting
commercial spam for dating sites, yuck.
As you may know, I've been writing some Lord of the Rings fanfics,
uploading them onto the documents section here, and then cut-and-
pasting them onto lotrfanfiction.com
I've got Part 17 of Nine For Mortal Men uploaded here and ready to cnp
over there, but I can't get their site to load. Not just right now,
for the past few days. Anybody know anything about that?
I write short stories and read about 5 books at one time. Anyone else
have this unquenching curiosity about everything and everyone?
Please, tell me more about you. Then I will share some of my writing,
if you'd like, that is.
I have two upcoming solo shows of my sunprints.
March 7 - June 13 2006, "Plants and Animals", Enterprise Library.
June 11- July 6 2007, "Faerie", Liberty Pointe.
I wrote two guides for the new eBay Guides and Reviews, "Guide to

I was digging around in the ol' file cabinet the other day, and ran
across a bunch of stories I wrote a long time ago-- stories which I
can't post because they were written on dinosaur computers and now
only exist in hardcopy. So I am having copies made and they are
available on my website,

Pavarotti, Giorgio Armani, Donors, Peace, History, Campaigns and about you if
you care about these words.
Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here:
http://un4.myfreewebs.net
Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.
For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.ch especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:
The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html
Together we will build better world.
You could reach me fast via this form: http://www.unhcr.us/email_me.htm and if
you like to know more about me, you can google for my name 'osam altaee'.

I managed to find this one, but not from yahoo. I only found it
because I had written down the web address so I could direct people
here to read my writing in the Files section. The new My Yahoo page
lost ALL the yahoo message boards I subscribe to. I tried again and
again to find any of them the way it says in the new page-- click on
edit, then Add Message Board, which brings you to Groups Home, then
search for the group name. When I searched for LaleLibrary it found
no matches. But this is here. I'm here right now.

With the law the way it is, this
struggle belongs in the political arena. I've been sounding a
warning for a long time now that goes something like this: "Where
are we going and why am I in this handbasket?" lol.
Seriously, though, by choosing to pick on people labeled as mentally
ill, they have effectively made it hard to get anyone to listen to
their victims.
In Nazi Germany, the first people to lose their rights were
the "mental defectives." Ethnic minorities such as Jews and Gypsies
came next. Then came homosexuals and members of political parties
opposed to the governing party. In America today, the mentally ill
have lost their human rights and become second class citizens. The
next group to lose their rights were Arab Muslims. Many Arab
Muslims living in America have been rounded up by the FBI and
detained indefinitely just for being Arab Muslims. This is-- if you
go by the dictionary definition-- a form of anti-Semitism (Arabs
being Semites.) The abuse of the Arab Muslim POWs in Iraq is part of
this anti-Semitism. Then a political movement to ban gay marriage
swept the nation. Then the FBI started using the Patriot Act--
supposedly passed to protect us from terrorists-- to harass elected
officials who happen to be Democrats.
Here in Las Vegas, the Patriot Act was used to get dirt on local
elected officials without the inconvenience of having to justify
their actions to a judge to get warrants. The dirt they turned up
had nothing to do with terrorism, nor could they have expected it to
do so, since they were specifically looking for connections with
local businesses. Namely, it turned out some local politicians
accepted free lap dances from a Las Vegas strip club. Now, if
anyone thinks those ladies are smuggling bombs in their clothes,
well, they need to understand what the phrase Nude Dancers means.
It's ridiculous to think lap dances have anything to do with
terrorism.
Most recently, the national news informs us that Senator Kennedy is
on the government's terrorist no-fly list and is no longer allowed
onto airplanes in the United States. If this can happen to a US
Senator-- and a Kennedy no less-- who is safe?

I'm not happy with the way things
are going in this country. I've seen for a long time-- since before
Bush was appointed President, in fact-- that vast social forces are
pushing us ever closer to a form of government just as intrusive and
freedom-denying as the old Soviet empire or Nazi Germany.
Not all of these social forces originate in government. Some are
purely economic. For example, some technology developed solely for
profit makes it easier for the government and others (including
illegal hackers) to keep everyone under a higher level of
surveillance than was available before.
For another example, the domination of "medical-model" psychiatry
(which means unproven theories are presented as facts to gull the
public into thinking pills are the cure for every unwelcome mood,
like in Brave New World) has resulted in enormous profits for the
companies that manufacture patented drugs. They could not make such
profits on "talking cures" which do not involve selling a product.
This profit motive has led psychiatry companies to "borrow"
government powers of incarceration to literally kidnap unwilling
patients, a process which takes consent of any kind, informed or
not, out of the profit equation. The unlimited detention without
trial, for the purpose of preventing a future crime or socially
unacceptable action or thought, which was been perfected by
psychiatry corporations purely for the money, has now been copied by
our government for dealing with terrorism suspects. Just like in
Nazi Germany, the first people to lose their human rights were those
labeled mentally defective, and only when the process had been
perfected was it then applied to the next group, Semites. In the
case of the Nazis, that was Jews, and today it's Muslims instead.
Who's next? Maybe you?
I've made a good start on putting my favorite poems into the Files
section. I'm not going to type in every poem I've ever written, lots
of my early ones I don't even really like anymore. I'm also,
obviously, not going to post the spells that I sell on my website.
But there will be lots more poetry and song lyrics forthcoming!
I uploaded a photo of my new sunprint, Freya Heart, the first in my
new series, Gods of the North. This series will depict iconic images
with symbols of the gods. Freya Heart includes the heart symbol,
falcon cloak, cat, and pendant jewel.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Asatru?
Asatru is the heathen religion of Northern Europe.
What's a heathen?
A heathen is a pagan whose faith originated on the heath, that is,
Germany, Scandinavia, Iceland, Scotland, and other parts of Northern
Europe. (In Scots Dialect, heathen still means dweller on the
heath, and does not denote a religion.)
Are there other heathen religions?
Yes. The Celtic religion and Druidic faith centered in Ireland,
Scotland, and parts of France, and Theod, the Anglo-Saxon religion,
are also heathen.
So what's a pagan?
A pagan is one who practices any of the non-Abrahamic religions (the
religions of the people of Abraham are Christianity, Judaism, and
the Muslim faith.) Most of the world's tribal religions are pagan.
Many modern reconstructed religions, such as Asatru and Wicca, and
newly invented religions, such as the Church of All Worlds, are also
pagan.
How do you say Asatru?
The stress is on the first syllable. Pronounce the A as you would
pronounce the Au in Austria. If you are from America, you probably
say AH-suh-tru and AH-stree-uh. If you are from Europe, you
probably say OW-suh-tru and OW-stree-uh.
Is Asatru a nature religion?
Yes. In addition to the gods, we also honor the landvaettir, the
land spirits.
Do you anthropomorphize nature?
Some Asatruars see the gods as personifications of nature. Other
Asatruars see nature as a personification of the divine.
Are all Asatruars white?
No. There are some Asatruars who are of mixed race and choose to
follow the ways of their Northern ancestors, some of other races who
were adopted by Asatruars and raised in Asatru, some who come to
Asatru through cultural or linguistic indentification, and some who
are called by the gods of the North.
Were the Vikings a male-dominated culture?
No. Men and women had traditional roles, but leadership was not
only for men. Warrior women and conquering queens abound in the
history and legends of the various Northern peoples. During the
Viking age, when so many of the men were gone for months or years at
a time on sea voyages, women naturally ran things on land.
Housewives were responsible for defending their estates by force of
arms in the absence of their husbands. Women had traditional
monopolies on practicing medicine, production of manufactured trade
goods for export, and foretelling the future.
How can you tell if someone is an Asatruar?
Some Asatruars wear symbols such as a Thor's Hammer pendant, runic
tattoos, or T-shirts with symbols of the gods. Others look just
like everyone else. Many Asatruars use email addresses and online
identities with the names of the gods included in them, or with
words such as skald, raven, godhi, spakona, rune, or Viking.
Is Asatru a form of witchcraft?
There are traditional magical arts within Asatru, but not all
Asatruars practice magic.
Are there commandments?
No. Part of the Havamal, a poem found in the Poetic Edda, contains
advice from Odin to humanity, but you will not go to Hell if you
don't follow it. Most of the advice is designed to keep you from
getting killed or from looking foolish to other people. Some sects
of modern Asatru have developed a list of Nine Noble Virtues based
on how people and other beings behave in Norse literature.
Has Asatru been practiced continuously from ancient times?
No. Asatru is a reconstructed religion. Rebuilding the elder faith
continues through scholarship of literature and linguistics,
anthropology and archeology, folklorist study of fairy tales and
folk customs, and the subjective experiences of modern Asatruars.
However, many current customs are holdovers from pagan times. For
example, some places in Europe still celebrate May Day with a May
Pole, which represents the Tree of Life.
Are there more Asatruars in Iceland than in America?
Probably not. The United States has 1,000 times more people.
Did the Vikings wear horned helmets?
No. Battle helmets were conical. Some had face and ear guards.
Ceremonial helmets did sometimes have animal symbols on them, but
usually these were raven wings for Odin or deer antlers for Freyr.
It is possible that some Vikings owned cow horn helmets that they
got from the Celts. However, in Viking culture the cow was not
associated with battle but with a mother's nourishing role, and so
cow horns are used for ceremonial drinking.
Are there sins?
Not in the modern sense of a spiritual error that is not a real
crime. In the ancient heathen world, the word sin meant crime:
murder is a sin. You can covet thy neighbor's ox all you like, but
cattle-rustling is a sin. When modern Asatruars say there is no
sin, we mean there are no nonsecular crimes. Every crime or sin is
to be punished in this world, and the only possible forgiveness
comes from the victim, or from his family if he is dead.
Do I have to believe in all these gods and fairies and so
forth to be an Asatruar?
No. Asatru is a religion of action, not belief. You can regard the
gods as archetypes if you choose, as long as you act honorably.
Can I combine Asatru with other religions?
As a tribal religion, Asatru can be combined with other tribal
religions when the person is a descendant of each tribe. For
example, one Asatruar who has Northern European and African ancestry
is both Asatru and Kemetic. Pagans who hear the call of our gods
can seek the common thread between both religions, for example, a
Hindu who dreamed of Odin came to Asatru without giving up his
original beliefs.
How do I get initiated as an Asatruar?
You don't. Asatru is not an initiatory tradition. If you wish, you
can make a ceremony of publicly announcing you are an now an
Asatruar. Some Asatru sects use a ritual in which one reverses the
formula by which heathens converted to Christianity, accepting the
gods of Asatru and abandoning Christ, but for those who were not
raised Christian this ceremony has little meaning. Dedication to a
particular god can be done as a public ceremony, a shamanic journey,
or more commonly is the god's idea and you simply know who has
chosen you. Some Asatru sects, especially in California, have
borrowed Wiccan style initiation ceremonies; these groups are
usually oriented toward magic rather than toward celebrating the
holidays. For the sake of your honor, never let yourself be talked
into taking an oath in a language you do not understand, nor
swearing kinship to people you do not know very well.
Where does magic come from?
Magic is the original state of all matter and energy in the
universe. Magic is what was in Ginnungagap, the unified field of
potential that existed before the universe exploded into being.
Although this describes the universe before time began, we can still
access the original forces of creation by reaching outside of the
limits of linear time.
Why do the gods let bad things happen?
None of the gods is omnipotent. Some are omniscient, but they don't
meddle much in human affairs. Wyrd shows us that the causes of
events originate in our own world. You personally may not have set
off the chain of events, but someone in your society—ancestors,
businessmen, politicians, neighbors—did.
I remember when Kennewick Man was in the news, do Asatruars
still think he was one of them?
Asatruars got involved in the court battle over the corpse as a
front for anthropologists who wanted to study the body's genetic
structure. Because of the way Asatru has been reconstructed, plus
the example of Odin forever seeking more knowledge, Asatru is
extremely pro science. We managed to hold off the "return" of
Kennewick Man to the local Native American tribe for reburial long
enough for the scientists to get some good genetic samples. Their
subsequent research showed that arguing whether Kennewick Man is the
ancestor of whites or Native Americans is like arguing over whether
pugs or chihuahuas are the sole heir of the wolf. Kennewick Man is
nonracial. He is 9,000 years old, and dates from a time before the
modern races evolved. Among modern humans, his genetic structure
most closely resembles the Ainu of Japan.
What's it like in Valhalla?
Our mythology describes Valhalla as a house in which there are
tables and benches where the einherjar, the battle slain, eat high
on the hog and drink mead. Every day they go out onto the practice
field and hold a battle, and then they are all healed and go back
inside to continue their revelry. They are practicing their war
skills for the last battle at the end of days. Generally, all the
homes of the gods, from Valhalla to Hel, are described as halls
within lands (gardens or fields), and the dead that go to each hall
have food and drink there. The mythology does not describe daily
activities or tasks for the residents of any hall but Valhalla.
Presumably, the dead other than the einherjar either wander about
the lands of their patron god at will or else spend all their time
in good company at table, where they are in fellowship with their
friends and relations. This is much closer to the modern conception
of heaven than the Heaven described in the Bible: a 1,500 mile
square Borg cube filled with multi-eyed, six-winged beasts that sing
the same song over and over and over for all eternity (look it up.)
How do I know if someone is a good teacher?
There are two components to a good teacher: knowing a lot, and
sharing the knowledge. On the knowing front, a good mentor will
probably give you a book list and maybe recommend some web sites.
Ask him if he has read the Poetic Edda, or at least the Havamal. If
he hasn't, he probably doesn't know much more than you do. On the
sharing front, watch out for the warning signs of hierarchy and
promised secrets that never materialize. If he tells you there is
something you absolutely must know to have a chance at a decent
life, you haven't qualified to know it yet, and to stick around and
learn you must have sex with him or pay a lot of money or some other
exploitative demand, run, he's a con man.
Do Asatruars pray?
Some Asatruars might pray sometimes, but prayer is asking for divine
intervention, and we do that only when there is no other way. Our
gods do not like lazy followers who expect everything to be given to
them. The usual interaction between an Asatruar and a god is
holiday celebration, in which a specific god or entity is honored
with a ritual, the god's blessing is bestowed on the people, and
then the gods and beings of good will are invited to join in the
feast. An Asatruar often thanks the gods or kindly spirits when
something has gone unexpectedly well. When Asatruars do pray, we do
not pray on our knees. We stand straight and raise our arms to the
heavens.
Is Asatru polytheistic or pantheistic?
There are some Asatruars in each camp, but generally Asatru is
polytheistic, that is, our gods are separate and distinct from one
another and from other cultures' gods.
But I experience Goddess as all-encompassing. How can that
be if there's more than one?
Each of the gods is all-encompassing when viewed from the
perspective of a human. A human is limited in mind and body to
three dimensions, moving through the fourth in an involuntary linear
fashion with only brief and confusing glimpses of nonlinear
consciousness that we call deja vu.
How do I tell my parents I am becoming an Asatruar?
Well, you could give them their own copy of this book.
