Volunteers Needed
With our economy sluggish, real estate slow and tax revenues
declining, local governments everywhere are facing serious challenges. If
you live in Escondido City, your Police and Fire Departments need your
support. In unincorporated neighborhoods in the county, the San Diego
County Sheriff’s Department and Rincon Fire District provide your law
enforcement and fire protection. 2008 will be a tough year for all of
these agencies as state and local funding sources grow more scarce.
Many of us pay around $75 per year for fire protection out of our taxes
and a similar amount for law enforcement. One way to increase these
services is higher taxes, which no one really wants. Another way is for
hundreds of people
to volunteer to assist fire, police and Sheriff personnel by joining
CERT, Neighborhood Watch FireSafe and other neighborhood groups.
