I purchased Orion's 2-D counterweight kit before they discontinued it.
I ended up having to add additional weights to it to counterbalance
all of the stuff I load on my OTA.
If anyone is in need of a counterweight system for the LX50 or any other SCT,
check out my homemade system on the HINTS section of Toby's LX50 site.

The 12 volt cig. lighter to base plug in on the LX50 is Radio Shack
part # 270-029A. It is called a Radar Detector Power Cord, 6 foot
coiled cord with power on light, fuse protected. It is 5.5mm outside
dia and 2.5 inside diameter. Works great at $6.99 Good Luck all and
clear skies! Mark.
Give us the Radio Shack part and/or catalog number for future
reference...thanks

Hey all,
I stopped at Radio Shack today and picked up a 12v (cig lighter) cord
to plug in the lx50 base for power. Works great! Has coily cord, 90
degree plug in head and a built in fuse. $6.99 Thanks for the help!
Now out to shoot some faint galaxies tonight, probably M51 and M82.
Clear skies,
Mark Hansen.

You hook the MagII to the serial port of your PC and the install
program flashes the PROM in the unit.

Mark,
The power cord for my LX50 does not have a fuse. Yours probably doesn't either
but if it did it would probably have a screw on cap on the cigarette lighter
plug end to access it.

Anybody use an autoguider while shooting long ex pics with your LX50?
Hey Bill, thanks for the tip on the 12v cord. I plan to take the
scope with me to Radio Shack to try out powercords. Does anyone know
if the one from Meade has an in-line fuse? If so, how many amp? Thank
you and clear skies! Mark Hansen.
When I was looking several people told me to buy a regular 2"
diagonal and a visual back rather than the 2" diagonal made just for
SCT's. Supposedly the difference was diameter of clearance through
the opening allowing true wide field of views with superwide
eyepieces. If you ever switch to a refractor, you can take it with
you as well. Just what I heard.
The new Televue Everbrite 2" is supposedly a premo diag. My diagonal
is a used Lumicon 2" mirror and visual back. Works great! picked it
up for a fair price on Astromart. Good Luck spending the $!

From what I have heard ( I don't have first hand knowledge) the Astro Physi=
cs is best followed by TeleVue, Intes, and Lumicon. I have the Meade 2" and =
I am happy with it for the price but I understand it is well below these oth=
ers for quality and coatings. Anything is better than the 1.25" prism diagon=
als that Meade supplies with these scopes.

I picked up a coiled cigarette lighter cord for a cell phone that had
a nice right angle plug for the telescope end. Came from Tech America
(part of the RadioShack company). 5 or 6 bucks if memory serves me.

I saw this list mentioned on Astromart. Please count me in. I have
a 'new to me' 10" LX50 I picked up to replace a Celestar 8 for
astrophotography. Sure, everyone says the LX50 isn't the best scope
for long ex work, but so far this one tracks fine. A little periodic
error, but I can deal with it.
I have a question for you all: Does Radio Shack or another electronic
supplier offer a 12v cord that would plug into the scope and into a
cigarette lighter? I know meade offers one but there has to be
another made for less$$.
HELLO
At the Winter Star Party I purchased a JMI NGF focuser (the manual one) for my
LX50 and I love it. My LX50 has very little image shift on the regular focuser
however it is still nice to use the JMI for fine focus. I also find it much
easier to change the position of my diagonal now ( I use the 2" Meade diagonal)
as the screw on diagonal was always a pain to loosen and move to a new position.
I picked up on your new site while I was on the Astromart Forum. It is nice to
see another LX50 site. I hope membership grows fast. As far as my LX50 it is the
second one I have owned. I had an 8" and really liked it but got a chance to buy
this used 10" for a good price and went for it. I think the LX50's are great
scopes for the money. I have owned several scopes over the past few years but I
plan on keeping this one for many years.
Clear Skies,
Dennis B.

Awhile back someone on Toby's LX 50 site had downloaded and installed
the ver 2.5 for the Magellan II. He was going to post the results of
what the update contained, buty the discussion site has been down for
some time now, and no results yet. Anyone know what the up date is ?
It can be down loaded , but no information on the download itself.
