The LULAC147 Community InfoNet is an information service by Santa Ana LULAC #147, Santa Ana, California, a chartered and authorized League of United Latin America Citizens council since June 9, 1946; renewed annually. Through LULAC #147's participation in the LULAC National Network, a vehicle is provided for the improvement of our communities in the United States and Puerto Rico.

LULAC #147's history includes an early involvement for Latino empowerment. Founding members were instrumental in the 1946 successful lawsuit, "Mendez, et al vs. Westminster School District" (64 F. Supp. 544, 161 F2d 744) upheld by the United States District #9 Court of Appeals. It was cited as legal support for the 1953 United States Supreme Court decision, "Brown vs. Topeka, Kansas Board of Education" which ended segregation in public schools nationwide.

In 1972, LULAC #147's successful lawsuit for an affirmative action plan to hire Latinos and other minorities in the City of Santa Ana's police and fire departments became a model for other cities. In the same year LULAC also won a lawsuit against the Santa Ana Unified School District to stop the placement of Spanish-speaking students in Educationally Mentally Retarded (EMR) classes, solely because of their language.

Today, through the LULAC National Educational Service
Centers (LNESC), LULAC #147 members have helped thousands of young students overcome barriers to pursue their college and university education. The LULAC Youth Leadership National Conference annually invites 60+ Latino high school students to Washington, D.C., spending four days in seminars & meetings.

LULAC #147 sponsors a youth council at Segerstrom High School in Santa Ana. Students participate in leadership forums, week-end field trips, LULAC programs, community events & projects.
