Save the Date for the Brest Committee’s Wine Tasting Event

The Brest Committee will be holding a wine tasting fundraiser on Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 5p-7p.  The event will be held in a garden setting at a private residence in the Denver Country Club area.  It will be held in honor of Bastille Day and will feature seven (7) different Rhone Valley wines and accompanying hors d’oeuvres from Le Central.  The cost is $45 per person.  To make a reservation please mail your check to Denver Sister Cities International, 2480 W. 26th Ave., Suite 20B, Denver, CO  80211 or call in your credit card reservation to the DSCI office at 303-832-1336 M-F from 8a-12p.

 

Karmiel Committee Plans Trip to Israel

The Karmiel Committee will be visiting Israel during the last two weeks of July this year.  The trip is ideal for someone who has never visited Israel or who has not been there in a long time.  Led by John Berman, Karmiel Chair and his wife, the itinerary starts with four days in Jerusalem and includes the Mediterranean cost, Tel Aviv, the Dead Sea area, the Galilee area and includes two evenings attending the world renowned 21st annual Karmiel International Dance Festival.  The trip offers significant amounts of self-directed opportunities with guides and drivers present.  For more information, please contact John Berman at 303-832-7645 or at jaberman.com.

Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 6:00pm:  The Kunming Committee will hold its June meeting in the Diamond Hill Conference Room 9C, 2640 W. 36th Ave, Denver, CO.  All members are welcome to attend.

 

Wednesday, June 10, 2009, 6:00pm:  The Axum Committee will hold its monthly meeting at Habesha Restaurant, 5707 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO.  All members are welcome to attend.

 

Thursday, June 11, 2009, 5:30pm:  The Brest Committee will hold its June meeting at the Alliance Francaise, 571 Galapago Street, Denver, CO.  Plans for The wine tasting event in July will be discussed.

 

Friday, June 12, 2009, 7:00pm:  The Takayama Committee will hold its monthly meeting at the home of Kimiko Side, 225 S. Grape St., Denver, CO.  The Committee will discuss plans for the 50th Anniversary celebration. 

 

Saturday, June 13, 2009, 12:30pm:  The Chennai Committee will hold its June meeting at the Bombay Clay Oven, 165 North Steele St., Denver, CO.  For more information, please contact Everton Sequeira, City Chair at esequeira@....

 

Monday, June 15, 2009, 6:00pm:  The Cuernavaca Committee will hold its monthly meeting in the Diamond Hill Conference Room 9C, 2640 W. 36th Ave., Denver, CO.  The upcoming teacher exchange will be discussed.

 

Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 5:30pm:   The Ulaanbaatar Committee will hold its June meeting at the home of Nancy Luby, 455 Detroit St., Denver, CO.  Please park on the east side of the street only.

 

Sunday, June 21, 2009, 11:00am:  The Potenza Committee will hold its monthly meeting in Potenza Park located at Cherry Creek Dr. South and South Holly Street.  There is parking on Nebraska Way, 1 block south of Cherry Creek Dr. South, off of Holly. 

 

Tuesday, June 23, 2009, 1:00pm:  The Development Meeting will hold its monthly meeting at Bogey’s, 26th and York, Denver, CO.  All DSCI members are welcome to attend.

 

Monday, June 29, 2009, 5:30pm:  The Nairobi Committee will hold its June meeting at Panera Bread, 1350 Grant St., Denver, CO.   The free parking garage is located on 13th Ave. between Logan and Grant.  All DSCI members are welcome to attend.

 

In Memoriam

 

Mr. Iqbal Hamid, a long time active member of DSCI, past member of the DSCI Board of Directors and an active member of the Denver-Chennai Committee had surgery for a brain tumor in April 2008 and passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009.  Services were held at the Mosque on Sunday May 31, 2009 and he was laid to rest at the Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 E. Hampden Ave., Denver, CO.  Hamid or Mike (as he was sometimes called) was born in Jaipur, India in 1934 and came to the United States in 1954 to continue his education.  He and his wife Saeeda and their four children made their home in Denver, but traveled world wide and made friends everywhere.  He was a good will ambassador to all helping friends and strangers alike regardless of race, color or ethnicity.  Anyone wishing to send a sympathy card to the family should contact the DSCI office at 303-832-1336.

Saturday, June 27, 2009:  The Italians of America Bocce Tournaments will be held at Softball Country, 2101 W. 64th Ave., Denver, CO 80221.  The entry fee is $20 per person and includes a continental breakfast and Italian sausage sandwich and trimmings.  Please contact Teri Carlson at 720-379-6067 or Rod Fiore at 720-883-6913 for more information.  All are welcome!

 

Saturday, June 27, 2009, 7:30pm:  Balistreri Vineyards and Dream Italia presents “Wine and Movie Night Under the Stars” at the vineyard located at 1946 E. 66th Ave., Denver, CO  80229.  The movie will be Cinema Paradiso. Wine and snacks will be served at 7:30pm and the movie will begin at 9:00pm.  Tickets are $35 in advance, non-refundable, limited seating.  The ticket price includes a glass of wine, snacks and the movie.  (Cash wine bar after the first glass, by the bottle or glass).  For more information call Balistreri Vineyards at 303-287-5156.

 

Thursday, August 13, 2009:  The Asian Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held at The Ridge at Castle Pines North, 1414 Castle Pines Parkway, Castle Rock, CO.  The cost is $175 per person (includes green fee, practice balls, golf cart, dinner and prizes).  Registration and Practice start at 12:30pm with a 1:30pm shotgun start.  The Dinner Awards and Ceremony will follow.  For more information contact the Asian Chamber of Commerce at 303-595-9737.  The deadline for registration is July 31, 2009.
