The featured speaker will be Liz Macron, our presumptive candidate

us a sample "stump speech" on the issues. Any other declared
candidates for Senate or any other office this year are welcome to
practice their speaking in front of a friendly audience.
Contact me to get on the schedule.
Rob is hosting and organizing the potluck dinner and entertainment,
so please coordinate any dish you would like to bring with him.
Anyone needing directions should also contact Rob.
Voice - 609-924-7955, e-mail - berrot@...

Without some understanding of what has brought us to the brink of a worldwide

LPSMC Holiday Party in New Brunswick!
Date: Friday, December 21, 2001
Time: 7:30PM - 11:00PM EST (GMT-05:00)
Libertarian Holiday Party in New Brunswick!
The Libertarian Party of Somerset and Middlesex Counties will
hold its holiday get-together at Marita's Cantina on Friday
night, December 21st. Marita's has good Mexican food, a
full-service bar as well as standard pub food. Pint drafts are
about $2.50 and drink prices are reasonable.
The place ought to be crawling with college students because
Marita's is very close to Rutgers University and December 21st
is the last day of Rutgers' final exams. If you want, you can
give out a few OPH quizzes--maybe you can recruit somebody. Or,
it you're into it, Marita's, since it's near Rutgers, normally
has a good number of socialist/communist barflies for your
entertainment. (They don't call Rutgers "Moscow on the Raritan"
for nothing) We've got a large table reserved in the bar area
that looks out at the street. We'll begin showing up around 7:30
p.m.
Marita's is at street level under the Ferren Parking Deck at the
intersection of Easton Avenue and Route 27 (Albany Street). So,
there's plenty of safe and convenient parking and Marita's
validates your ticket for one hour of parking free.
Also, Marita's is directly across the street from the New
Brunswick train station. Bus service stops right in front and
there's a taxi station nearby.
If you need better directions call Marita's at 732-247-3840. If
you have any questions, e-mail me at paff@....
Hope to see you there.

On Sunday, September 9, 2001, from noon to 6 p.m., the Libertarian Party of
Somerset and Middlesex Counties will be sponsoring an Operation Politically
Homeless (OPH) booth at the Monroe Township Country Fair (near Jamesburg -
NJTP Exit 8A). We need Libertarian volunteers to man our booth and speak
with members of the public about the Libertarian Party, especially during
the later afternoon hours.
In case you're not familiar with an OPH event, it's basically a tool we use
to make the public more aware of the party and its positions-and to find
Libertarians. We give people the "World's Smallest Political Quiz"-a 10
question survey-tally their "scores," and post the results on our
"Self-Government Compass." When a quiz-taker "scores" as a Libertarian, we
ask for his or her name and address for invitations to our future events.
No prior experience is required! We will provide on-the-job
training! Don't worry if you're not the most articulate person on the
planet, or if you aren't certain of the LP's position on every issue. The
Country Fair is low-key, family oriented event-and it's a lot of FUN. So,
even if you've never manned an OPH booth before, come out and spend a few
hours and HAVE A GOOD TIME.
This year the Fair's being held at Thompson Park on Perrineville Road. If
you'd like to help out or would like more information or directions, call
me at 732/873-1251 or email me at paff@....
Thanks. Hope to see you at the fair.

The Bound Brook police called me today to tell me to stop putting up
signs in the Bound Brook main street area without a proper permit, and
to take down the signs I already put up.
I have not put up any signs there, but presumably these are signs
announcing Ed Crisonino's talk at the Riverside Pub next Thursday in
South Bound Brook, which have my name on them.
I would prefer not to make an issue of this; I don't think this is a
valid free speech issue (I presume that the property owners where these
signs have been placed have not given their permission). So would
whoever has put signs up there, please remove them. Thank you.

Howard Schoen
Dear Friend Of Liberty,
The founding meeting of the newly constituted Libertarian Party of
Somerset and Middlesex Counties will be held at the Riverside Pub,
295 Canal Road, South Bound Brook on Thursday, June 21, at 7 PM.
Food and drink will be available for purchase.
It hasn't been well publicized, but at the last statewide Convention
of the New Jersey Libertarian Party, a caucus of members from Somerset
and Middlesex Counties voted to organize as a single County Committee
affiliate of the NJLP. At the caucus I was elected Chairman of that
Committee.
This meeting will be primarily an organizational meeting. Hopefully we
can get a sense of where the members want to go with the Committee and
what activities they want to sponsor. Several street fairs are coming
up and we need to decide whether we want to do an "Operation Politically
Homeless" at any of them. (For more information on Operation Politically
Homeless, or "OPH", see http://www.reliablehost.com/self-gov/page7.html).
There is even the possibility of a Libertarian contingent in the South
Plainfield Labor Day parade. And, of course, an election is coming up.
We also need to approve bylaws, in part in order to get full recognition
by and dues sharing from the NJLP. If you wish to see a copy of the
bylaws in advance of the meeting, call me at (732) 572-0207 or e-mail me
at hschoen@.... Also on the agenda will be electing a
Chairman (I intend to resign as Chairman at the meeting) and possibly
other officers.
All NJLP members residing in Somerset or Middlesex Counties are members
of the Committee, but everyone is welcome to come to the meeting. So
bring a friend.
****************************************
We are also fortunate to have as a speaker Edward J. Crisonino, a
criminal defense attorney with experience in defending against illegal
police searches and active in drug and forfeiture cases. The title of
his talk is "Police: Do I have to Answer their Questions or Let Them
Search my Car?" The talk will begin at 8 o'clock.
****************************************
We have an opportunity to inject a new burst of enthusiasm into county
Libertarian activities and once again make the Somerset and Middlesex
area famous as a hotbed of Libertarian activity. I hope to see everyone
at the meeting.
In Liberty,
Howard Schoen,
Chairman
