David,
The 424 has a Nathan P5 and the 421 has a Nathan K5LA. I assume you know
these do change as horns fail from time to time. Older photos show the
424 with a Nathan P3.
Chris Guss
All,
I want to add sound decoders to two of my engines and was wondering if any of
you could let me know what style of horns the following engines have:
LAL #424
WNYP #421
Thanks in advance for your help.
David
Thanks, Jason. I'd checked the line a few months back and noticed that the
siding had been taken out where the old facility was...

Pennywell is in the former Pennzoil warehouse along SR-8. They are spotting the
Brine Water cars on the main where the former loading racks for Pennzoil were.
Just before the bridge over Oil Creek. They removed the siding a couple of
years ago.

ALL,
On my way to Titusville on Thursday, I noticed that the WNY&P had set out
several tankers on the new siding in Rouseville. This is the first action that
I have seen there since they put that in.

On what siding have they been unloading the Brine Water, Jason? I'm also not
familiar with where Pennywell Sandblasting is...

On Sept 23, 2006, the Knox and Kane sold rides to those at the Marienville
Oktoberfest. The trips ran from the Marienville Station to McCray Siding and
back. They were powered by #39 which shoved open car #604 and coach #7031, and
pulled them back. I was scheduled to work 7AM that day, until 7AM the next day
for EMS in Marienville. I did some "railfanning" on the clock, lol. Now the
dilema, I want to ride! I can't hardly be on the train clear up at McCrays, and
get called out. I call my Supervisor, and he says that I can take a few hours
off IF I can find someone to cover for me. We have a couple of other EMTs that
live in town. I call one, and he says that he will cover for me. I call my
wife and tell her to get her butt up there to ride what could be one of the last
rides out of Marienville with me. She gets there, and we just miss a departure.
Little do we know that the next ride, the one that we get on, will be THE LAST
trip out of Marienville.
Also that day, Sloan Cornell handed his roundhouse keys over to a small group of
very
appreciative railfans. I was looking
through my hard drive, and decided that the photos from inside the roundhouse
were not doing any good just collecting dust on my computer. I placed them in
my RRPA account to share:

Ya its been in for a few months. You may have over looked it because the
ballast is likely still not tamped even though they have had the tamper and
spreaders up in Rouseville several times this summer. I drive past this area
every night and morning to and from work.
I also forgot to mention they have been doing alot of track work behind Merisol
up by the McClintlock well.

still just the switch with no actual siding yet a few weeks ago. Like I said, I

I shot a DFT on Saturday, October 17, unless it was running as another train
(I'm no expert on the WNYP). Ran from Olean to Driftwood and return.

The communication involved something about departing O'Neil (sp?) Road headed
for East Columbus. I found a Columbus on the line in Pennsylvania near Corry, so
I didn't stick around. Instead, I went to chase the B&P out of Johnsonburg.

Just curious if this would be worth a relay of the old Salamanca Branch into the
old Oil Well Supply if they are expanding business? Maybe relay the other leg
of the wye on the bridge too? :-) It says that they are expanding into the
former Electrolly, but if they are a painting, sandblasting, fabrication, AND
welding business that is that big, surely some traffic could move on rail
between either ot both places?
Speaking of wyes, other than the Olean diamond, is there anywhere else on the
WNYP to turn a loco?
Did you find out anything on Hornell run . When I was there the OL-2 ran it at
night.

OK, thanks. If one hasn't run since Friday I think the odds are good, especially
if the NBER is running stone once a week on Tuesdays.
Since I'm in DuBois right now, I'm going to head over to Emporium and then
follow the line north. If I don't see any signals lined up by the time I get to
Eldred, I'll just go west and try to intercept the B&P again. It's supposed to
be sunny around here this morning but then could up, so whatever I get, I want
to get early.
Any ideas on when the next Hornell train is likely to run?

That is what I found on the DFT(5:00) call, but I don't think there is any
definate schedule as I was told it was to run the next day but was cancelled due
to lack of traffic. However, I think the DFT crew will probably still run that
day just do something else. One day they ran to Cuba and later to Pt
Allegheney. In other words there is a DFT but does not mean a particular
destination. The day I did see it run it had two units as compared to more I
have seen in some photos. What I seemed to find is that Olean is either luck or
determination as showing up early may net you only a plan B or a long wait.

I showed up at Olean shortly after 1100 today hoping to catch a freight to
either Hornell or Driftwood. However, nothing moved for the next 90 minutes and
someone came out to shutdown several of the units in each of two engine consists
that were parked by the enginehouse, so I presumed there was nothing going on.
I have since been advised that the DFT, when it runs, is now on duty at 0530,
with departure by 0700. Can anyone on this list confirm? Also, is it likely that
a DFT will run on Tuesday, as apparently was the case last week?
Finally, I did hear the WNYP dispatcher talking to a 524 train at about 1245.
The communication involved something about departing O'Neil (sp?) Road headed
for East Columbus. I found a Columbus on the line in Pennsylvania near Corry, so
I didn't stick around. Instead, I went to chase the B&P out of Johnsonburg.

Hello List,
I will be on an assignment for work and will have an opportunity to stop over in
Olean Wednesday 21 October 2009. I have reviewed the posts in the message
archives, as well as the files. I will stay over night in Olean, then likely
head down towards Emporium and Williamsport on Thursday.
Any recent changes to the scheduling of when trains run?
Any suggested good photo locations along route, especially Keating grade?
I have not been in this area to watch trains since the mid 1980s, so any info
will be helpful.
Thank you,
Joe Z.
