Birders,
Thurs 9 July
Don Sterba (with occasional and minor assistance from me) has been trying to
keep tabs on a pair of Northern Parulas at Village Green that might be
attempting to nest. The birds are roaming the SE quadrant of the property,
sometimes seen together, and the male is singing frequently and creatively.
Last weekend Don observed the female carrying fibrous nesting material, and the
male has become increasingly belligerent toward other species---Bushtit,
Orange-crowned Warbler and today House Finch (plus has been seen attacking it's
own image in a window).
While chasing the parulas this morning, we ran into a female Summer Tanager in
the sycamores on the east edge of the large central lawn. We had the bird for
about five minutes before it disappeared, not to be refound.
