Hi Maxine

Please also see the Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum Wall of Names, which a good first port of call as it grows from its current approximately 35,000 names to include and cross-reference all these lists and sources over time.

At the page http://kresy-siberia.org/won/?page_id=13&lang=en&text=latyszewsk* are already listed Wlodzimierz and Zbigniew, though Helena still needs to be entered.  We encourage family, friends and researchers to enter any available information on Polish citizens who experiences persecution and the struggle for freedom in eastern Poland and in forced exile associated with World War 2.

Hi Antoni530

I forgot to change the 'subject' and no offence or upset was intended.  I was using the information about the lists.memo.ru from that string of emails to help with my efforts to learn the details of my father's early life.  My father was only 9/10 years old when he was sent to Siberia. He referred only to staying with his father's family in South East Poland to escape the Nazis in the West.  My father lived in Bydgoszcz until 1939.

Hello Maxine,

May I ask you why did you use letter L to look at Grygierczyk family name?
It ought to be G or H in Cyrillic alphabet? is it another family name you are searching? Where did your family originate before being deported and how old were they?

Hi Barbara
I see you are formerly from Dunstable-so close to Milton Keynes!
Thank you for your advice about Google Chrome and its translation tool-I 'll take a look at it.
Perhaps the information for Poles and the dates 1939-1940 will be released in the not too distant future.

Hi Maxine,

I use Google chrome and it always asks whether I’d like to translate. Sometimes it takes a few clicks on the yes to get it to work. However, on this site, there seems to be no Poles at all and nothing for the years 1939 or 1940.

Just an observation from a non-Russian speaker.

Kind regards,

Hi group

I see that some people who were from the Kresy region and were deported to USSR are listed in http://lists.memo.ru/ .  My father and his parents suffered the same fate. I visited the site and clicked on the letter L for a list of names beginning with L. Could anyone help or offer any advice?

Barbara

The Grygierczyk family (Bronislawa, Elzbieta and Zbigniew) are found in the KARTA files under the surname: Gryczerczyk.

http://www.indeks.karta.org.pl/en/wyszukiwanie.jsp

They were deported in July 1940 to the Vologda region of northwestern Russia to a place called Steklyanka (Stekljanka, Stieklanka).

The Russian Files: http://lists.memo.ru/ list the family under the surname of Gricherchig and indicate that they were refugees in the Lwow region (possibly in Lwow itself), sentenced on 29 June 1940 and deported on 8 July 1940.

Hi Stefan

Thank you for the prompt. I recall visiting the Wall of Names at the beginning of my search, and saw that this was a respectful way of recognising the names and lives of 'Polish citizens who experienced persecution and the struggle for freedom in eastern Poland and in forced exile associated with World War 2'. Helena hopefully is now entered on the Wall of Names. Using the analogy of a laden dinner table, she was the first person in my life, to offer the idea of seeing the good that different nations can contribute to our human experience.

In an article about Roman Polanski, link below, the BBC refer to an interview
given by Polanski:

"In the interview with Swiss channel TSR, Polanski also spoke of his traumatic
past, including his time spent as a Jewish child in a Polish ghetto during World
War II".

I don't know if "Polish ghetto" featured in the Swiss interview or if this is
the BBC being anti-Polish as usual. I'll be complaining and I hope that everyone
else will too.

Sorry Lenarda,
The lists at RU go back into mid twenties. There are 2.2million entries on the two discs so far, but now with the release of more info from the NKVD archives as a result of pressure by 'Memorial' in Moscow, it is posssible that another disc will be released sometime in the future.
Many entries are missing and that is why one has to contact Memorial directly to obtain information on a particular lost relative.
Have you contacted them yet?

Translation via Google is not satisfactory.

I took advantage of an earlier sale to buy a t-shirt and two mugs, one for my
office and one for home. Excellent quality, and a good way to help support the
group and raise awareness of the mission.

Thanks for offering these items!

The Unisex hooded and regular sweatshirts are on sale at 20% off, but apparently not the kids selection.  I will follow up with the store managers tomorrow, and find out if the coupon could be extended to the kids range as well or if they could offer a new coupon for kids sizes in the near future.

Hello Stefan,

Perhaps you'd like to list my film, CHILDREN IN EXILE, on your sight.

CHILDREN IN EXILE
Chris Swider, Producer/Director, Opus 27 Productions
Availability: www.opus 27productions.net

In CHILDREN IN EXILE survivors of Soviet deportation to Siberia describe their experiences as the youngest victims of the Soviet system.  These crimes against humanity have never been legally confronted, and as one of the interviewed victims states, “a crime should be called a crime.”

Hope all is well with you,

Chris

We are updating the group's Reference Centre, www.KRESY-SIBERIA.com, which lists relevant (1) research sources, (2) books and films, (3) links.

Now integrated into the group's Virtual Museum, www.KRESY-SIBERIA.org, we want to keep this the premiere "one-stop" location on the internet providing information sources on the Kresy, the persecutions and deportations, and the life in exile during and after World War II.

We thank member volunteers Andrew Leszkowicz (Sydney, Australia) for taking on the web maintenance of these pages, and Krystyna Monka (Perth, Australia) for editing the booklist.

However, your help is also needed to update the research sources, the books and films lists, and the links. Please send comments and suggestions to RESEARCH@..., BOOKS@..., and LINKS@... respectively.

Thank you in advance,

Hi Stefan,
It's me again but don't worry I think I am now grasping thing s that Antoni 530 K-S helped me i should get my files in order too.
However, the name is exactly the same as a reply i received  from Hoover June 10th 2010 which states as follows;Eugeniusz Pukiel, from village Stefanowka, town of Kolusz county of Stanislawow, he obviously was in a camp from near Kotlas, & does not come from Wilno, Michael would be much older &considered a potential soldier & i learn he was not exactly deported, he was mostly imprisoned.
How then was he chosen to enter Gen;Anders army?.
I'll keep you informed Stefan, thanks again.
Cynthia.

Hi Cynthia

This can be details of the history, photos, documents, films and even a memory or reflection as a testimonial to the person - like the one you just made!

We encourage family, friends and researchers to enter any available information on Polish citizens who experiences persecution and the struggle for freedom in eastern Poland and in forced exile associated with World War 2.

This may of interest to someone. It's about the Polish pilots -especially the
Turowicz husband and wife duo. These were pilots who volunteered to train and
set up Pakistani Air Force after the 1947 independance. The interviewed
"ex-students" speak very highly of their instructors; there's some old footage,
and magnificent aerial shots of the mountains which made me doubt whether our
intrepid escapees from Gulag in "The Way Back" could have crossed them.

The DVD was made by a Ms Anna Teresa Pietraszak with the help of the Polish
Embassy and three men who died in the Smolensk crash: Wladyslaw Stasia, Janusz
Kurtyk, Aleksander Szczyglo - names that may be familiar to some.
Polish narration with English subtitles.
Unfortunately, only one comment about the civilians and a current photo of the
cemetery.

If interested, contact Pani Pietraszek at parvane@...

Hi Stefan,

I'm wondering what the intent/purpose would be of approving this suggested info on Facebook:

Stefan Wisniowski said you work together at Kresy-Siberia Foundation.

What is this supposed to signify, exactly? It would give the impression that K-S is my employer, which, of course, it's not. I'm curious about what prompted this. In light of the recent changes on Facebook, with more pending, I've been deleting information from my account, rather than adding to it.

Thanks for any insight here,
