I've recently joined the group, which I think is doing a great job.



I am trying to find out more about my Polish Jewish grandparents'

journey from Eastern Poland to Russia, Persia, and finally to

Tengeru Polish Refugee Camp. My grandparents didn't tell my mother

and her sister much about their journey, and I never got to ask them

before they died, as I was too young and they lived in Israel.



My mother remembers the following fragments: my grandmother's maiden

name was Teofila / Tolla Koperszmid, and her home town was Rawa

Mazowiecka in Eastern Poland. She escaped to Russia in 1939, on the

last available train, shortly before the arrival of the Nazis. She

escaped with two of her sisters, Feiga and Tusha, and one of her

brothers, Salek. With the help of Anders Army they got to Persia and

finally to Tengeru Polish Refugee Camp. My grandfather was Bolek

Koch, he and my grandmother met en route and were married in Persia,

before arriving in Tengeru. I was amazed to find both their names on

the Red Cross List of Polish Refugees in Africa posted on this site,

although we didn't find the names of the two sisters and brother.



While living in Tengeru Bolek worked as a doctor, and my grandmother

Tolla worked as a nurse/midwife. My aunt Malbina Koch was born in

Tengeru in 1946, and my mother Perl Leah Koch in 1948. In 1950 they

emgirated to Israel. My mother and aunt were too young to remember

life at the camp. However we do have some photos, which I plan to

post on this site soon.



Feiga, Tusha and Salek settled in Melbourne, Australia. I know that

I have second cousins - their descendants - in Australia but my

family has lost touch. I am trying to find them too.



If anyone remembers my family from Tengeru I would love to hear from

you.
